His team “will look at every potential issue that we will be able to challenge, and we will challenge,” Tacopina said. Ordinarily, a defendant who is released would walk out the front doors, but Secret Service will want to limit the time and space where Trump is in public. By the afternoon, Trump is expected to be brought to the courtroom, where the indictment will be unsealed and he will formally face the charges. Tacopina suggested in TV interviews Sunday the statute of limitations may have passed, and said the Trump businesses didn’t make false entries. Once the former president is finished being processed, he’ll be taken through a back set of hallways and elevators to the floor where the courtroom is located. “The office is more important than any individual person. “All the Tuesday stuff is still very much up in the air, other than the fact that we will very loudly and proudly say not guilty.” The Secret Service, the New York Police Department and the court officers are coordinating security for Trump’s expected appearance. The former president will stay at Trump Tower Monday night and is expected to depart New York immediately after Tuesday’s arraignment to head back to Florida, the source said. The Manhattan district attorney’s office has been investigating Trump in connection with his alleged role in a hush money payment scheme and cover-up involving adult film star Stormy Daniels that dates to the 2016 presidential election. Trump is expected to leave Florida around noon ET on Monday, landing at New York’s LaGuardia airport around 3 p.m.

Trump announced his 2024 presidential bid in November 2022, unusually early for the cycle and only a week after the midterm elections when Trump-affiliated candidates suffered a series of bruising losses. “He waits until President Trump essentially declares for the presidency, now we’re a few months before the debates and less than a year before the Iowa caucuses,” Garrett Ventry, a Republican strategist, tells TIME. “He can take that pulpit, that podium, and point out the fact that we are all victims of a government that has targeted each of us because we attend the wrong rallies, like the wrong tweets, go to the wrong movies.” [conducted](https://news.yahoo.com/trump-indictment-poll-surges-lead-desantis-151150006.html) March 30 and 31 found Trump with a 26-point lead in a hypothetical match-up against Florida Gov. “The fears and concerns of a weaponized government are now personified in Donald Trump,” says Gidley, Trump’s former White House spokesman. Once he enters the doors, he will be under the domain of New York authorities and the court, according to Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the U.S. But he says Trump later reimbursed him for those payments in a series of disbursements and then filed them as legal fees to cover up what amounted to a campaign expenditure. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who’s leading a “Rally for Trump” organized by the New York Young Republican Club starting at 10:30 a.m. The case centers on Trump’s alleged role in making hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election to stop her from going public with an affair she says they had. It’s unclear if Trump will be photographed walking into the courthouse—a classic perp-walk moment—or will instead be taken in through a private entrance. The former president plans to spend the night in Trump Tower in Midtown before surrendering himself at the lower Manhattan courthouse on Tuesday, where he will be arraigned and forced to provide fingerprints and pose for a mug shot. Trump’s legal team spent the weekend negotiating the details of how and when Trump would turn himself in.

Four things to watch for in Trump indictment charges (BBC News)

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has been investigating a $130,000 (£105,000) payment made by Mr Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen to porn star Stormy ...

Ms Daniels was threatening to cancel her previous nondisclosure agreement to keep the alleged affair a secret, according to Sources close to the case have told US media that they believe at least one of the charges against Mr Trump could be a felony. Ms McDougal has claimed she had a relationship with Mr Trump in 2006. The indictment is expected to set out what prosecutors believe Mr Trump has done, with some information as to how and when, and from that we will get a sense of the case they have built against him. This would mean prosecutors believe that Mr Trump tried to hide his payments to Ms Daniels because he didn't want voters to know they had an affair - the payments were allegedly made in the weeks before the 2016 election, and so it is possible they could be considered a part of his campaign. Prosecutors say this amounts to Mr Trump falsifying business records, which is a misdemeanour - a criminal offence - in New York, and we expect the charges to be related to that.

“The timing and clear political motivation of Donald Trump’s indictment bring up some concerning questions.” “One of the fundamental principles of our country’s legal system is equal justice for all. The Alabama Republican Party described the indictment of former U.S. We hope and pray that justice will be served, and that truth will prevail in this situation.” Hush money payments to an adult film actress in 2016 is the inciting incident for Trump’s indictment. “The American legal system should never be used as a political tool, or as a way to carry out a political vendetta,” The statement said on Friday.

Trump glum as he lands in NY for surrender (NEWS.com.au)

Mr Trump pressured election officials to declare him the state’s winner, despite his defeat to Joe Biden there. In recent weeks, Mr Trump has repeatedly attacked the District Attorney, Mr Bragg, and accused him of political bias. Mr Trump is expected to show up at the office of District Attorney Alvin Bragg, which is also inside the courthouse, in the afternoon. The former president’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, was already convicted of violating campaign finance laws by paying the adult film actor $US130,000 to keep quiet about an affair with Mr Trump before the election against Hillary Clinton in 2016. They said there was no real legal retainer agreement, as the invoices Cohen submitted were not connected to any legal services he had provided. The motorcade then headed to Trump Tower in Manhattan, where a small crowd of supporters were gathering. Most other activity in the Manhattan court, including all trials, will be suspended to accommodate his presence on Tuesday. And because they were not disclosed as such, the payments violated campaign finance laws. His lawyers have indicated he will plead not guilty. Mr Trump will spend the night in his penthouse in Trump Tower, where he is expected to meet with lawyers and political advisers before he turns himself into authorities on Tuesday. Mr Trump gave the thumbs up to a waving policeman as he sped to the airport in Florida. Former US president Donald Trump has arrived in New York where he will surrender himself to authorities tomorrow in the wake of his indictment by a grand jury.

Opinion | Trump deserves to be indicted, just ask an Alabama ... (alreporter.com)

A few years ago, some of the same people excusing Trump's recent indictment were celebrating Gov. Robert Bentley's resignation for similar crimes.

Aderholt said Bentley “made the right decision” to resign. We make sure the guilty continue to pay for their crimes, that we at least pretend that certain people aren’t above the law. Watching what this cult-like obsession with Trump has done to so many people is a strange combination of infuriating, sad and scary. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s not that serious of a crime. Like, you know, that Cohen has already pleaded guilty to his role in this crime and provided clear evidence to the government that these acts occurred. Or that mislabeling the reimbursement to Cohen as “legal fees,” which the Trump organization apparently did, would constitute a crime. Gary Palmer called it a “political assassination.” Rep. Dale Strong also said it was a “witch hunt” and blamed the whole ordeal on “New York liberals.” Rep. Robert Aderholt said it was “a stunt.” Tommy Tuberville called it a “witch hunt.” Rep. Barry Moore, invoking Soros, called it a “dark day in American history.” Rep. Trump’s crimes (allegedly) stem from his payment to a porn star, Stormy Daniels, with whom Trump was alleged to have an affair.

Trump indicted: What to know about the case and what's next (Main Line)

Edwards had argued that the payments were a personal matter — intended to keep an affair secret from his wife — and had nothing to do with the election. Already, the charges have been a boon to his fundraising. Former Vice President Mike Pence called the indictment “an outrage” and “nothing more than a political prosecution.” Former South Carolina Gov. The judge will tell Trump the charges against him and advise him of his right to go to trial and other things. Proceedings are closed to the public, including the media. Trump is expected to walk out of the courtroom because the charges against him don’t require that bail be set in New York. The grand jury, however, heard from Robert Costello, who was once a legal adviser to Cohen. But in New York, the clock can stop on the statute of limitations when a potential defendant is continuously outside the state. Trump may also argue that the statute of limitations has passed. Trump will no doubt try to fight the case on multiple fronts. But he says it had nothing to do with the campaign. The indictment against Trump remains sealed, as is standard in New York before an arraignment.
