AFL 2023 round 3 LIVE updates: Jamarra Ugle-Hagan raises ... (The Age)

Follow along for all the major moments and post game reactions as the Bulldogs and Lions face off at Marvel Stadium.

Jamarra, for a young fella, is still getting experience at this level so to step up and play the way he did - you have to be proud, especially as what I consider a younger brother in many respects, it’s great to see. We shouldn’t have needed much off the back of the last two weeks. What a great way to come out and respond. Just going out there and proving the point. I’m definitely pumped, it’s great to play like that, the midfield was strong. That is nice to play against them, I feel that’s the end of that, I can move on. It’s a big game for us, we need to turn it around. Looking forward to getting back home at The Gabba under the lights again. Jamarra, five goals obviously a tough week for yourself. “Just got to sit down, relax and not talk about footy too much. The spirit of the club, expecting a big fight they gave us that. We didn’t convert as much as we should have, we kicked a lot of points.

“You’ve got no idea what you’re going to get out of Daniher. “They throw the ruckman forward as an act of desperation. “The ball came out of their defensive 50 at 100 miles an hour under no pressure, which puts their defence under a heap of pressure and eventually it’s got to crack – and it did. There was no one prepared to take a big risk and when they did, it looked like they weren’t on the same page.” “They’ve got some problems up forward and if they don’t fix those problems, they’re not going to enjoy any success this season. They have guys that just don’t find a way to get involved when it’s not their night.

Lions Fall Short At Marvel (Brisbane Lions)

The result continues Brisbane's topsy-turvy start to the year, having been well beaten by Port Adelaide but blasting Melbourne out of the water (until the lights went out late in that game). Ugle-Hagan had taken a day off during the week, and it proved to be just the reset he needed, kicking five goals from nine touches. While he was treated to a chorus of boos for most of his first term, he settled to produce a steady performance against his former side. Ugle-Hagan's celebration produced an image of the ages, echoing Nicky Winmar's famous action by lifting his jumper and pointing at his skin with pride. Marcus Bontempelli was the star early as the Dogs came out full of fire after a lacklustre opening two weeks. He finished with 0.4 for the night.
