Editorial: Rally around victims of West Reading chocolate factory ... (Main Line)

The explosion at the R.M. Palmer Co. factory in West Reading on Friday is something so tragic that it's hard to put the feelings into words.

We offer our deepest respect to those who endured long hours of agonizing work searching for bodies in the rubble, many of them reluctant to even take a break because of how seriously they took their work. And we salute the leaders of West Reading and its emergency services, who rose to the occasion in a situation that would challenge officials in any community, even a much larger one. May their efforts be an example for others to follow whenever there’s a situation that demands keeping the public informed of rapidly changing developments. We are confident there will be much more in the weeks and months to come. Indeed, the fact that this tragedy took place at this time of year only adds to the sadness. The suddenness and force of the blast were such that people were trapped underneath the rubble. The same goes for the entire community of West Reading.
