Later on Saturday night, Transport for NSW said trains were running again between Lidcombe and Ashfield on the T1 Western and T2 Inner West & Leppington Lines.

Some trains have been replaced by buses, with footy fans warned to expect lengthy delays as they travel to the NRL game at Sydney Olympic Park.

“If you must travel, please allow plenty of extra travel time, listen for announcement and transport apps for service updates.” Another said they had been travelling in circles for hours, catching a train to one station then being sent back to their original destination. “Major delays are being experienced due to urgent signal repairs at Homebush,” a spokesperson said on social media.

"Customers travelling to Sydney Olympic Park from the west and southwest will have limited direct services from Leppington and Penrith but are advised to allow for extra travel time," Transport NSW said in a statement. Sydney Trains and Transport NSW have been contacted for comment. Urgent signal repairs have stopped trains running between Lidcombe and Ashfield on the T1 Western and T2 Inner West & Leppington Lines.
