Miami draw: Raducanu, Andreescu to face off in first round (WTA Tennis)

A pair of US Open champions, Emma Raducanu and Bianca Andreescu, will meet in a blockbuster opener at the Miami Open. Defending champion Iga Swiatek tops ...

Sabalenka and No.16 Barbora Krejcikova could meet for the third WTA 1000 tournament in a row in the Round of 16. In the second round, Sabalenka will face the winner of an all-American first-rounder between 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens and Shelby Rogers. Pliskova was the Miami Open finalist in 2019, losing to Ashleigh Barty. Pegula could face two-time Miami Open champion Victoria Azarenka, the No.14 seed, in the Round of 16. Bencic and Fernandez might meet in the second round. Third quarter: This quarter contains the clash between Raducanu and 2021 Miami Open runner-up Andreescu. Jabeur, who played her first event since the Australian Open at Indian Wells, could have a Round-of-16 clash with No.15 Petra Kvitova or No.22 Donna Vekic. No.10 seed Elena Rybakina, who ousted Swiatek in the BNP Paribas Open semifinals this week en route to the title, is a possible quarterfinal opponent for Swiatek. That was part of her 37-match winning streak, the longest of the 2000s. Sakkari is coming off a semifinal showing in Indian Wells. Like all of the 32 seeded players, Swiatek has a first-round bye. Swiatek won in Miami to complete last year's Sunshine Double, having also won the 2022 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells earlier in March.

Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek aim to defend their Miami Open titles. Daniil Medvedev is on a roll, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal will not play.

Fritz, the 2022 Indian Wells champion, climbed to No. “I always say if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best, and I would say that Daniil is the best player right now. Tiafoe had not dropped a set in his run to the semis. Another story line to watch at the Miami Open is the rise of Americans Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. Alcaraz was looking forward to the final against Medvedev, who has been on a phenomenal run of late. If he beats Medvedev, Alcaraz would be the youngest man to win both legs of the “Sunshine Double” (Indian Wells, Miami Open). Alcaraz was anointed “The Next Rafa” and went on to win the U.S. She reached the semifinal of the 2022 Miami Open before losing to eventual champion Swiatek. Her win over Swiatek was her second in a few months, as she knocked the top-ranked Pole out of the Australian Open in the fourth round. Miami Open WTA draw: Swiatek, Rybakina on another collision course (Tennis Majors)

The WTA draw for the Miami Open was revealed on Sunday afternoon. World No 1 Iga Swiatek could begin her title defense against Katerina Siniakova.

The first-round lineup is headlined by a battle between Grand Slam champions — both at the US Open — who have since suffered slides down the rankings. [Elena Rybakina](https://www.tennismajors.com/wta-tour-news/russia-kazakhstan-wimbledon-2022-10-questions-you-might-have-about-elena-rybakina-611185.html), who also upset Swiatek in round for of the Australian Open, took down the Pole 6-2, 6-2 on Friday Indian Wells. Rybakina may have to get past Kasatkina in the last 16 before potentially running into Swiatek in the quarters. However, the world No 1 still has a chance to win the [Miami Open](https://www.tennismajors.com/atp/miami-open-masters-1000-atp/10-questions-about-the-2021-miami-open-dates-prize-money-covid-19-323702.html) for a second time in a row after her [BNP Paribas Open](https://www.tennismajors.com/our-features/lists-our-features/players-dates-tickets-tv-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-2023-bnp-paribas-open-in-indian-wells-but-never-had-time-to-find-out-665199.html) title defense recently came to an end in the semi-finals. 2023 WTA Miami Open: Betting odds, picks, how to watch, more ... (amNY)

Iga Swiatek, of Poland, returns a shot to Elena Rybakina, of Kazakhstan, during a semifinal match at the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament Friday, ...

A likely showdown with Sabalenka in the semifinals could be a stiff test, but if you’re getting +2200 odds on a player who has a good path to being one of the four final players in the Miami Open, it’s an enticing proposition. Iga Swiatek (+175) is the easy bet since she’s clearly the favorite at the Miami Open, but she also admitted that she wasn’t playing at 100% during Indian Wells because of a rib injury. In her one chance to win a title, she was defeated in a straight-sets beatdown by Swiatek in the Doha final, but she has a good draw and finds herself on Swiatek’s side of the bracket, so if the Pole isn’t healthy, a trip to the finals could be in the cards. [was just recently stunned by Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals of Indian Wells](https://www.eurosport.com/tennis/wta-indian-wells/2023/indian-wells-elena-rybakina-beats-iga-swiatek-will-meet-aryna-sabalenka-in-final-after-belarusian-be_sto9515226/story.shtml), so there will be no Sunshine Double this year. Last year, Poland’s Iga Swiatek defeated Naomi Osaka 6-4, 6-0 to win her third consecutive WTA 1000 of the season and extend her win streak to 17 matches. Along with the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, the Miami Open is a joint ATP/WTA tournament where the men’s and women’s tournaments will be going on at the same time.

Rybakina; Sabalenka d. Semifinals: Pegula d. Sabalenka will start against either Shelby Rogers or Sloane Stephens, but her toughest competition could come from Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round. She has a title this season; does she have a deep run at a 1000 in her, too? Miami is where things began to go south for her in 2022. Speaking of Sakkari, was her semifinal run in Indian Wells a sign that she has stabilized? She’s in Gauff’s half of this section, and is due to make some noise. Like Jabeur, her presumed breakout season has yet to materialize (missed Indian Wells with injury). For Coco Gauff, it’s probably a relief not to be anywhere near either Swiatek or Aryna Sabalenka in the draw; she has lost love sets to both recently, and she lost badly to Swiatek in Miami a year ago. Hopefully Parks, an American up-and-comer and already a champion in Lyon, can improve on her performance in Indian Wells, where she lost 6-1, 6-1 in the first round to Anna Kalinskaya. She’ll start against either Claire Liu or Katerina Siniakova, and the first seed she could face is Martina Trevisan. Miami, USA

The big-serving Bublik is 1-10 in all other Tour-level tournaments, including opening-round exits in Auckland, Australian Open, Rotterdam, Montpellier and Indian Wells. French fans were already out in force watching Benoit Paire's qualifying match on Monday and this all-French affair figures to be a fan-friendly clash. The back end of the sunshine double kicks off at the Miami Open this week. Find out who is favored to win the men's and women's tournaments.

[Caroline Garcia](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/caroline-garcia-2663) - Garcia has lost 7-5 in the third in each of her last two tournaments, falling to [Donna Vekic](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/donna-vekic-3978) in the Monterrey Open final and [Sorana Cirstea](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/sorana-cirstea-2381) in the Round of 16 at Indian Wells. [Donna Vekic](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/donna-vekic-3978) - Vekic was a letdown as a potential sleeper in Indian Wells, as her powerful game didn't translate well to those slower hard courts and she immediately crashed out against [Lesia Tsurenko](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/lesia-tsurenko-3931), but perhaps she'll fare better in Miami. [Elena Rybakina](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/elena-rybakina-4197) knocked her out at both the Australian Open and Indian Wells, but Swiatek could get a shot at revenge in the quarterfinals here. [Iga Swiatek](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/iga-swiatek-4237) - Swiatek is the defending Miami Open champion, and while she failed to win the title at the three biggest hard-court tournaments so far in 2023 (Australian Open, Dubai and Indian Wells), the world No. 7 seed [Holger Rune](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/holger-rune-4455). 3 seed [Casper Ruud](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/casper-ruud-1624) in the Round of 16. His potential opponents from the third round forward are [Ben Shelton](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/ben-shelton-4594), [Cameron Norrie](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/cameron-norrie-4164), Medvedev, Tsitsipas and Alcaraz. 6 seed [Andrey Rublev](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/andrey-rublev-1613) or the 10th-seeded Sinner. 5 seed [Felix Auger-Aliassime](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/felix-auger-aliassime-90). [Carlos Alcaraz](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/carlos-alcaraz-4412) - Alcaraz just erased any doubts that he's the player to beat in any tournament that doesn't include Djokovic. Alcaraz showed the size of the gap between himself and the field with a 6-3, 6-2 drubbing of [Daniil Medvedev](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/daniil-medvedev-1227) in the final, ending Medvedev's 19-match winning streak. In the women's draw, [Qinwen Zheng](https://www.rotowire.com/tennis/player/qinwen-zheng-4317) (abdomen) will be back in action as the No.
