Victorian Liberal leader John Pesutto will move to expel controversial MP Moira Deeming from the party over her role in an anti-trans rally.

The move to expel the controversial MP from the party room follows her attendance of a rally associated with neo-Nazis.
“Regardless of religious faith, race, sexual preference and identity, Victorians everywhere should know that the Liberal Party is inclusive and can be a voice for them.” Under the party’s constitution, the party room meeting to expel Deeming can occur five days after the notice has been provided. The leadership team is confident more than 50 per cent – the minimum required – will support the motion. “The only person who should go is the leader of the Liberal Party because he’s clearly not a Lib,” Flint said. “The Liberal Party I joined and which I am now honoured to lead, must strive to represent all Victorians,” the opposition leader said. “At our meeting I informed Ms Deeming that I will move a motion at the next party room meeting to expel her as a member of the parliamentary Liberal Party as her position is untenable.

John Pesutto has declared his intention to expel Moira Deeming from her position as a member of the parliamentary Liberal Party. Deeming's crime?
This is a woman who wields the sacrosanct mandate of the Victorian people to govern. We learned that racism, sexism, the culture of victimhood, and the tyranny of inclusivity do not sit well with Deeming. ‘It’s really a matter for the leader of the Liberal Party to explain to the people of Hawthorn, and indeed all Victorians, are these his views?’ She’s a member of our team and she’ll go forward as a member of our team.’ But Pesutto has since fallen victim to the straw man, and so has manufactured a scarecrow. In the 2022 election, the Liberal Party ran a ticket of predominantly conservative candidates for Western Metro, spearheaded by Deeming and then Trung Luu. The manifesto she delivered is one that I cannot seem to fault, and one which was met with both laughter and, on more than one occasion, rapturous applause. For it is the constituent, not the party leader, who decides by way of this country’s elective democracy the merit of the politician’s positions. ‘I’m not here to try and explain that member of Parliament’s views,’ the premier lamented. There is no evidence to suggest Deeming engaged with the neo-Nazis at the event. Rather, Pesutto should ask Victorian Police whether or not they held suspicions neo-Nazis would attend the event, and if so whether or not they made any attempt to alert the event’s organisers. [reported](https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/mar/19/daniel-andrews-says-nazis-arent-welcome-as-victorian-government-considers-further-action-following-salutes) the Victorian government’s rightly grim view of these neo-Nazis and their behaviour. I completely reject the beliefs of National Socialists (Nazis) and I have seen first-hand the impact that the Holocaust had on a family member.” “Second, Ms Deeming stayed at the rally when the Nazis arrived.
