Katee Sackhoff Talks Bo-Katan's Feelings About the Darksaber in ... (Star Wars News Net)

Deadline caught up with Katee Sackhoff to discuss Bo-Katan's true intentions for the Darksaber in The Mandalorian season 3.

Her outlook on the Star Wars universe is simple yet powerful - "All Star Wars is good Star Wars", a true testament to her undying love for this iconic franchise. After effortlessly proving herself as an exceptionally skilled warrior (and a natural with the Darksaber), Bo-Katan returns the Darksaber to Din Djarin. To say Bo-Katan is a natural with the Darksaber is an understatement. I think that is her problem is that she realizes that she’s not going to fight her people anymore. I think these are people who thought Bo would do anything to lead, that Bo would fight anyone to lead, and that’s what she wanted and that’s why they were following her. Bo-Katan has a connection to the Darksaber, having wielded it before when she ruled Mandalore.

Katee Sackhoff practiced Bo-Katan's dramatic throne pose in The Mandalorian ... The actress opens up about her descent into the mines of Mandalore — and how ...

[Laughs] But she knows that she made a mistake, and Bo doesn't want to be responsible for the loss of any more lives. She's taken responsibility for a lot of the things that she's done, and I don't think she wants to lose another Mandalorian on her watch. One of the coolest things about this show — and the benefit of the helmets — is that we can put the exact right person in the suit who is an expert at that one thing and can make Bo-Katan the warrior that she is and so captivating to watch. My husband was like, "Oh my God," and I was like, "It was such a great day!" We see a different side of Bo, and we see a humorous side of her. She maybe feels just a hint of responsibility for him because she may have sent him to a place that was going to be dangerous. I think that is the thing that has finally shifted in Bo-Katan: She doesn't want it anymore. I think some fans might be wondering whether she could have — and whether she would have had a legitimate claim to it. It's sort of weird to look back on my career as a whole so far and realize that it was all potentially leading to this place. So, she starts taking off her sweatshirt and putting her boots on and basically trying to answer the door and look like she doesn't care. We had to figure out a way to take up more of the space because it's such a massive space. So, for me, I can't look down at him or at the track, so I'm usually trying to figure out where I am and not trip — because that's not very Mandalorian of me.

'The Mandalorian': Katee Sackhoff On Bo-Katan & Whether She ... (Deadline)

'The Mandalorian' Season 3: Katee Sackhoff On Bo-Katan & Her Whole Deal With The Darksaber.

We have to go back to the responsibility and the guilt that she feels for the death of Satine [Bo-Katan’s sister]. SACKHOFF: She does and she also respects what the darksaber stands for. There is a part of Bo in a way trying to right the wrong, atone for that guilt. I think that is her problem is that she realizes that she’s not going to fight her people anymore. They’re not following her anymore, which means she’s not a leader without the darksaber, but she doesn’t know how to go about getting the darksaber in such a way that’s going to result in her not losing her people. I think these are people who thought Bo would do anything to lead, that Bo would fight anyone to lead, and that’s what she wanted and that’s why they were following her. At that point, she was trying to get the darksaber from an enemy. When we first saw her introduced in Season 2, she wants that sword, and she begins this season in this cynicism. It’s just that at this impasse right here that we’re at in this first episode. SACKHOFF: If you go by the timeline that Jon [Favreau] and Dave [Filoni] are acting on, in that it’s been a few years. She’s not going to fight someone who she doesn’t have a reason to fight. Din makes his way to Mandalore in this episode as he’s looking to bathe in the living waters under the mines in an effort to redeem himself to his clan, the Children of the Watch; he previously broke the golden rule that he’s never supposed to remove his helmet.

Katee Sackhoff said that the character of Bo-Katan still continues to surprise her even after years of playing her both in the Star Wars animated shows and ...

(Producer) Dave (Filoni) always had in his mind that she was in her late teens and early 20s. “The suit itself doesn’t start out heavy, but after you've been in it for 15-16 hours, it definitely starts to feel heavy. “What surprises me the most is how much the time she had in Death Watch has affected her emotional state. Later, Mandalore was laid waste by the Empire in a catastrophic event called the Night of a Thousand Tears, which supposedly left the planet inhabitable. And avid fans would know that the actress who voiced the character in those shows, Katee Sackhoff, also plays the live-action version of Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian. In case you’re only getting to know Bo-Katan from The Mandalorian, here’s a bit of background on her.

The Mandalorian's Katee Sackhoff Lays Out Why Bo-Katan Isn't ... (Cinema Blend)

After The Mandalorian's latest episode, Katee Sackhoff opened up about why Bo-Katan's obsessive quest for the Darksaber has stalled in Season 3.

And more recently shared how honored she felt for The Mandalorian's Jon Favreau and others to ask for her personal Bo-Katan input, so it looks like she’s getting exactly what she was hoping for. In any situation where fighting and violence are used as a means of leadership, barring the most heinous exceptions, there comes a point where enough is recognized to be enough. But that might have meant losing Mando as a friend in arms, and she's not about losing people anymore. She even used the Darksaber as part of her rescue efforts, which would be as suitable a reason as any to just take control of the weapon anew.
