Glittering with wit, heart and humour, this is an audiobook to press into the hands of every woman who has ever been there or is about to find themselves taking that first step towards the rest of their lives. The incisive ‘misogyny speech’, as her words came to be known, challenged not only Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott, on his words and actions but, over time, all of us. When a life-changing group of allies showed her that different did not mean less, she learned to celebrate her true voice and find her happily ever after. While behaviours may have improved since the misogyny speech, there remains a way to go and Julia Gillard explores the roadmap for the future with next generation feminists Sally Scales, Chanel Contos and Caitlin Figuerado to motivate us with that rallying cry: Not now, not ever! In 2021 Grace stepped squarely into the public eye as the Australian of the Year, and was the catalyst for a tidal wave of conversation and action. And, as with all her work, it offers a constructive and optimistic vision for a better future for all of us. She moved between 10 schools in 8 years, struggling to become a person she believed society would accept, and was eventually diagnosed with autism and ADHD. The Ninth Life of a Diamond Miner is Grace’s story, in Grace’s words, on Grace’s terms. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. Now a highly respected executive and personal coach, Kemi has created a five-step process to guide other women to build their power and transform their lives through the principles of Presence, Ownership, Wisdom, Equality and Responsibility. As a teenager she found the courage to speak up after experiencing awful and ongoing child sexual abuse. Blending inspiring stories with reflective coaching practices, POWER provides the tools to navigate the challenges that impact who we are, from discrimination and burnout to trauma and self-doubt.

Success for Surrey in the County Championship in 2012 and 2013 earned her international breakthrough and within months she had claimed her hat-trick, against New Zealand, the first English cricketer – female or male – to do so. At the recent World Cup in South Africa, she scored two half-centuries, including an unbeaten 81 against Pakistan in Cape Town. Her 48 was the top score of the match as New Zealand were beaten at Lord’s, taking an awkward catch to capture the final wicket of a tournament in which she had accrued 416 runs at 51. It kept her out of cricket for two years – delaying her university studies – but the persistence of a player brought up in Herne Hill with three brothers soon became obvious. Born in Shanghai daughter of a Surrey farmer, she was a member of the side which played the inaugural Test at Brisbane in November 1934. It did not appear to take the edge off her game, scoring five centuries on the 1948-49 Australian tour, an innings of 124no at Sydney being marked by having her portrait hung in the pavilion.

iTWire - International Women's Day 2023: tech leaders speak (iTWire)

“The technology industry has made great strides in recent years, but women are still underrepresented in both senior leadership positions and in certain roles.

[Gali Arnon](https://www.linkedin.com/in/gali-arnon-71964010/?originalSubdomain=il), CMO at [Fiverr](https://www.fiverr.com/)"International Women’s Day is a day that celebrates the empowerment of women across the globe. This, of course, is a personal reflection based on my experience and I appreciate that not all experiences are the same." As a society, we must keep highlighting and embracing the successes of women in STEM – we have a duty to be role models to these young women not just to inspire them, but so that they feel represented. By providing women the opportunity to explore new ways of working, this will not only benefit staff, but organisations as a whole." Statistically, there likely hasn’t been overwhelming progress, but attitudinally there has been a shift; a willingness to discuss and tackle the issue. "Since the start of my career, I’ve seen a broadening of those trying to enact meaningful change. In the technology industry, this is a result of various factors that ultimately stem from systemic bias and stereotyping. Yet, many fail to realise that this has far-reaching consequences: the lack of diverse perspectives and ideas - traits that are the hallmark of successful, progressive companies. “The shift to hybrid workplaces has had clear benefits for working parents and the post- pandemic period has inspired many people to make choices about what’s really important to them. Flexible working arrangements post-pandemic also mean more men are sharing the household and family caring load, which is a wonderful benefit out of the dark days of COVID lockdown.” "Many women, when asked, don’t feel they are discriminated against in the workplace, but the lack of representation in certain roles, in management and on boards as well as gender pay gaps would suggest otherwise. “The technology industry has made great strides in recent years, but women are still underrepresented in both senior leadership positions and in certain roles.

This year's International Women's Day theme is 'Cracking the Code, focusing on innovation for a gender equal future and closing the digital divide'.

I never would have dreamed of connecting with so many people around the world and it was only possible due to all the amazing and high-quality free tools and tutorials the internet has to offer. In the early days, it was just me curating content I loved and reposting it whilst on my morning train commute. It was so empowering and validating to finally discover content representing dual cultural identities that I found myself wanting to learn more about each girl and the story behind her work. One morning in March 2017, I found myself procrastinating by scrolling through Instagram for a few hours (oops) and came across some insanely talented women of colour. It results in more potential for innovations that promote gender equality and much needed diversity of thought and lived experience. Of all the startups that received funding in 2021, only 8 per cent of startups were all-women founding teams, a decrease from 12 per cent in 2020.

IWD23: How to avoid participating in pointless posturing on ... (image.ie)

In the same way you know that a dog is not just for Christmas, consider not celebrating women only on International Women's Day.

I would feel fairly confident that you also didn’t do it on your own, and that somewhere along the way another woman provided you with a supportive nudge along the way, which is after all what International Women’s Day is all about. What if you stopping gossiping about other women and asked others to do the same? What if you acknowledged their efforts and asked how you might assist them to continue their work? They are much closer to you than you think. What if you promoted women, you know who are forging change? Instead cheer for them saying, “good for you, and the same for me!” This is what is so special about the Get involved by doing what you can and with what you have. This is entirely untrue and, in fact, ensures that we stay in the energy of scarcity. Educate yourself on the issues, so that you can in turn, share that information with your own circle. This feels a lot like double standards to me and I’m guessing given the choice we would happily forego any of these events for better ongoing treatment in the workplace. What if you grabbed every opportunity that comes your way to speak up for those women who don’t have a voice? They hold public events and talk about celebrating their female staff, whilst at the very same time tolerating a culture where men get paid more than women, where women are forced out of their jobs due to maternity discrimination and there is a distinct lack support on areas such as the menopause.

We want to spark conversations and creative ideas about how to change systemic barriers that get in the way of people’s ability to thrive. Finally, we will continue to focus on practicing allyship in our workplace, which is a critical component of providing opportunities for our talent and fostering diversity across all levels of our organization. We are also encouraging our people to join our women’s ERGs. The global programming will be streamed around the world, and our local offices are putting on viewing parties and other activities to uniquely reflect the women in their community. This International Women’s Day, in the spirit of embracing equity, we are honoring all the women of DDB who take risks and feel the freedom to do so. Our goal is to inspire our community of 9,000+ to use their voice for good, sharing stories and experiences that uplift and push us forward all month long. At Momentum Worldwide, we have launched a peer-to-peer recognition tool, Nectar, that our people use to share kind words about each other, [which is part of our theme] #WomanKIND. We’re a reflection of the women who paved the way, and are responsible for those still walking. The social campaign will roll out during the month of March and there will be a dedicated microsite. Throughout the month, we’ll highlight women-owned businesses, talent and artists through the food and vendors we bring in, our monthly corkboard series and our happy hours. Globally, we continue to run Femmes Forward, a career advancement program for women at the senior manager/director level. This Women’s Month, our network has come together to create programming for our employees within the Network.

Knowledge is power, and until women realise they are underpaid, there is little they can do about it.

In the United States, a former Google employee created a spreadsheet that was then filled out by around 1200 employees to reveal and share their pay. At Microsoft, employees did much the same, creating a private group and spreadsheet to share information. To which you might breezily add: are you up for it? There are many good reasons why some people are paid different amounts, owing to relative performance, length of service, negotiation skill and willingness to switch employers to bargain for higher pay. Importantly, everyone also has the right to not answer such questioning. On one level, I object to the millions of dollars corporate Australia must collectively shell out on venue hire, inspirational speakers and breakfast pastries each year.

International Women's Day gives me a headache. As a young woman and passionate activist for gender equality, this is surprising.

I understand that International Women’s Day has carved out a space that acknowledges the phenomenal impact of female community leaders that otherwise may have been overlooked. The tone of other International Women’s Day events I’ve attended differs. To me, the commercialisation of International Women’s Day is symbolic of the continuing inequality that girls and women, in all their diversities, experience worldwide. In 1911, the first International Women’s Day was held to commemorate that protest. Some International Women’s Day events I’ve attended have been empowering, insightful experiences that have shaped my approach to gender equality. The modern roots of International Women’s Day began in 1908 when 15,000 people marched in the streets of New York, demanding better working conditions for women.
