Locals combed the rocky stretch of beach for clues, using metal detectors, drones and cameras. It is something a father should never have to suffer," he later wrote. At the centre of the stone structure was a plaque with Ms Cordingley's version of a well-known quote: "Be the change you want the world to be." Then began a complex process to get Mr Singh to Australia to face the murder charges in court, something the federal government said was a "high priority". But Mr Singh made a game-changing statement to the courts in early January that would speed up the extradition: he wanted to go to Australia to face the murder charge and fight it. Ms Cordingley's stepfather said the reporting about her death was insensitive to the grieving family. On the first anniversary of her death, the community unveiled a memorial in the spot where Ms Cordingley would have stepped onto the beach the day that she died. Ms Cordingley's death on a quiet stretch of beach in broad daylight rocked the Cairns community. Ms Cordingley was found dead on a beach north of Cairns in 2018 and her case shocked the community. SES began a sea and air search in the early hours of Monday morning, but it wasn't until Ms Cordingley's father Troy took police back to the spot where they had found Indie that they made a heartbreaking discovery. He is expected to face charges over the death of Ms Cordingley, whose body was found on a beach north of Cairns in October 2018. In November last year, Mr Singh was arrested in India, bringing to an end a years-long manhunt that began when he flew to India's northern Punjab region, the day after Ms Cordingley's body was found.

“We are in a climate and biodiversity crisis and it is appalling that species are not getting the protection they need here in Queensland.” When parliament passed these laws, they handed police another tool to unfairly target Aboriginal communities. “The department does not yet have a comprehensive framework to prioritise animals and plants based on risk”. “The current lack of measures reduces its ability to monitor outcomes for biodiversity, and demonstrate whether the strategy is achieving the results expected from the resources provided,” the report found. “How long are you willing to wait for a new hospital that may never come while we have the funds to build a new one right now?” In October the NSW and Victorian governments announced $558m to upgrade the Albury hospital, despite local lobbying for a brand new one to be built on a greenfield site. “That headline was ready to print on the basis of my answer and this was leading into the Olympics – so at the time I only thought of being gay as a negative.” This is not just about pay. A further 46% of all people who received a police warning from general duties officers were Aboriginal and in some parts of the state Indigenous people were vastly over-represented with over 75% of people in Western NSW identifying as Indigenous. The report released on Tuesday found that the NSW police issued 16,480 warnings to 2,671 people and that most were in response to less serious offences or warnings rather than serious crime. “A business has quite significantly superior knowledge about an individual’s behaviour, their gaming behaviour, and a lot of data about how they’re engaging with the game that can be used to manipulate them,” she told the inquiry. “There is little to no transparency on what is offered, how real money is converted to digital currency and also the randomness and design of loot boxes,” she told the inquiry.
