The Pokémon Company will celebrate their special day with an online presentation taking place in a few hours, and presumably will announce new toys and games for fans to spend their hard-earned cash on. It’s as if both the player and the game developers are going through the motions with these new entries. But don’t forget about 2022’s Pokémon Legends: Arceus for Nintendo Switch, an incredibly engaging and addictive action RPG that moved its franchise forward, and appealed to new fans. (Yes, there’s more than 1000 Pokémon creatures now.) However, the games are a step backwards from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, as many of the great ideas introduced in that game were dropped, in favour of tired old Pokémon tropes you may remember from more than 20 years ago. If you’re a 90s kid you may remember the absolute mayhem for the games and associated films, trading cards, cartoon and toys – many of those are going strong to this day. If you’re unfamiliar, the franchise takes place in a world where cartoon creatures called Pokémon (Pocket Monsters) exist and can be captured in a ‘Pokeball’ by ‘Pokémon Trainers’, who have them fight in grudge matches.

The original Pokémon games came out 27 years ago. Trainers across the world now celebrate the date as Pokémon Day.

I have a special connection with Treecko because the Red Rescue Team game told me my personality best fit that Pokémon in my first playthrough. I grew up playing Red and watching the TV show, but these days I pretty much only play GO on my phone. That card was for me and the more they pleaded, the more I refused to give it up. The first time I finished the game I went right back to the beginning to start another go at it because of how much I loved it. Watching my children grow up, I always wondered what kind of Eevee evolutions they'd be (they are 30 and 26 now, and I like the Eevees they have grown into). The moment you make eye contact with a Flamigo, they make a beeline for you and torment you with high speed and attack stats. I've been a fan of the series since the first games, Red and Blue, were first available in Puerto Rico, but none of the 150 Pokémon that started it all became my favorite. Of course the stadium battles and tournaments were loads of fun, but MY GOD were those mini-games amazing. I really liked the game and have fond memories of it. It was a tough battle, but we won and I was able to capture it. In 2016, we all got into the mobile game and took the opportunity to dig up the cards again. I still recall the Atomic Purple Game Boy Color my father bought with Pokémon Blue.

On Feb. 27, the Pokémon Company celebrated Pokémon Day 2023 with a Pokémon Presents showcase, otherwise known as a Pokémon Direct.

The Pokémon Company is re-releasing the original Pokémon trading card game — that is to say, the original lineup of cards — in a deluxe package designed to be an all-in-one way to play the TCG. Later today, an update will roll out for Pokémon Go players that allows them to connect their game to Scarlet and Violet. The app measures, records, and analyzes your sleep; Pokémon who tend to sleep in the same way that you do will show up in your game. 11-13 at the Pacifico Yokohama, gamers will compete in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the Pokémon trading card game, and Pokémon Unite. [Netflix and The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon Concierge](https://www.polygon.com/pokemon/23616638/pokemon-concierge-netflix-anime-release), a new original series to be released on the streaming service. The livestream kicked off with an announcement about the Pokémon World Championships, which will be held in Japan for the first time ever.

On Pokémon Day, the Pokémon Presents livestream shared a range of exciting announcements for the fans of the franchise.

The second part, called "The Indigo Disk," will be released in the winter of 2023. The accessory can be placed on a user's pillow at night to aid with Pokémon Sleep, or carried in a bag during the day to automatically catch Pokémon in Pokémon Go. The mobile game, which is a blend of an alarm clock and Pokémon Go, rewards players for getting a good night's sleep. Fans of the franchise may remember that Zacian is a dog-like Pokémon that wields a sword in its mouth. The series will be based on the story of a concierge, who will be named Haru and the many Pokémon that visit as guests. Pokémon World ChampionshipsPokémon World Championships will take place in Japan for the first time ever.

Iron Leaves is in Violet, and is a Grass/Psychic type. Walking Wake is in Scarlet, and is a Water/Dragon type. The Championships will be held in August and will cover the usual games including Scarlet/Violet and Pokemon Unite. The series is a collaboration between Netflix and Pokemon, looking to adapt an entirely new storyline with stop-motion animation. The first part is called The Teal Mask and the second part is called The Indigo Disc.
