Liverpool vs Real Madrid Prediction & Preview | The Analyst (The Analyst)

Liverpool host Spanish giants Real Madrid at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night. We look at the Opta supercomputer's prediction and ...

The total goals scored by Liverpool in the 2022-23 competition (17) is below that of only Benfica (18) Bayern Munich (19) and Napoli (20). No player has been involved in more for the club in 2022-23, with his total four more than Karim Benzema (20 – 16 goals, four assists). The Belgian made nine saves against Liverpool in this game, the most on record by a goalkeeper in a single UEFA Champions League final (since 2003-04). The Opta supercomputer predicts that Liverpool will defeat Real Madrid at Anfield on Tuesday night, giving them a 42.8% chance of doing so. Salah’s seven goals in six UCL appearances are only one fewer than he’s managed in 22 Premier League games this season (eight), but he’ll have to improve his scoring record against Spanish clubs in the competition. After losing their opening match of the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League campaign (4-1 vs Napoli), Liverpool have won each of their last five European matches. Vinícius Júnior was Real Madrid’s hero in the 1-0 UCL final win over Liverpool last May. This was Klopp’s third UCL final loss – the most of any manager, while only Juventus (five) have lost more Champions League finals than Liverpool (three). The Reds haven’t won any of their last six meetings with Real Madrid, drawing one and losing five of these games – this is their longest ever run of winless games against a single opponent in the history of the European Cup/Champions League. Real will be making their fourth trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League. This is a big shift from the early European meetings between these two clubs, with Liverpool winning each of their first three matches versus Real Madrid between 1981 and 2009. Liverpool host Spanish giants Real Madrid at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

Champions League greats Liverpool and Real Madrid collide (The Indian Express)

If any team can rival Madrid's ability to produce the unexpected in European club soccer's most prized competition, it is Liverpool.

The young players coming through are going to be better and the older players are still doing it.” Madrid also beat Liverpool in the final of 2018 and won when the sides met in the quarterfinals two years ago. “In the ground they turn up for their team. “This Real Madrid team is actually better than the team that won it last year, I believe. There was the famous comeback from 3-0 down against AC Milan in the 2005 final before going on to win on penalties. “It’s a huge club. “I covered every one of those games and I still don’t know how they won it.

"We have these two results and hopefully we can build on that but we need to play a super game, we need to play two super games, to be honest, to get through. Vinicius has scored three goals in his last three meetings with Liverpool, and ahead of their latest meeting, Klopp was asked whether the player's actions on the pitch were antagonistic. "We played a good game and could have won the game. However, Karim Benzema is set to return after his absence at the weekend. That he's doing something on the pitch which could cause what kind of things are happening to him? I have no problem with that because if you don't play your best you don't have a chance - Real Madrid don't have to play their best and still have a chance! "This is that team, the competition and you can learn from them, definitely. Here, it was a really good 0-0, we let them work hard and that was good. There's a history in the last few years. Before that, we played there on the training ground and here in an empty stadium. "But this is now, same clubs, different teams, different times. REVENGE is a dish best served on a cold Champions League night under the lights at Anfield... at least that's what Jurgen Klopp is plotting as Europea.

On top of this, we know that we have Anfield and everyone knows what this means. The game will be shown on BT Sport 1 and BT Ultimate in the UK. at least that's what Jurgen Klopp is plotting as European champions Real Madrid come to town. Is the match on TV and what channel is it on? "We had a few more long balls, then when their press in our half of the pitch lessened, we got to control the ball more especially in the second half." It also happens to be against European Cup serial winners Real, so the Liverpool faithful will be up for it. We know this. "I think it helped that Liverpool were easier to decipher than the others because they have a very clear identity and we could prepare the way that we did. But we also know that ours is not too bad. "The games themselves are still a few months away but it does not take a great deal of imagination to think what the atmosphere will be like at both games. And Liverpool will be hoping for some sort of redemption for the 1-0 loss they suffered inside the Stade de France by knocking out Real Madrid and ensuring a new King of Europe is crowned in three months time. Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of summer signing Darwin Nunez after the striker went off with a shoulder injury in the win over Newcastle.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid: How to watch live, updates, team news (NBC Sports)

Liverpool host Real Madrid in the first leg of their huge UEFA Champions League last 16 tie as a repeat of the 2021-22 final is a mouthwatering prospect.

Cherries refuse to spoil (Wolves 0-1 AFC Bournemouth): This was not a great flowing display from Bournemouth but they’ve shown this season that they possess grit, can grind out wins, and have individuals to pop up at key moments to secure victories. Marco Silva’s side registered 0.00 xG on zero shots in the first half, as Brighton had their way everywhere but in front of goal (as they so often do). Fulham finished (Brighton 0-1 Fulham): Fulham were out-shot 21-5 (seven on target), out-xG’d 2.20-0.31 and out-possessed 65-35, and not one bit of it mattered. On the flip side, Thomas Frank accounted for two of the celebratory limbs as Brentford extended their unbeaten run to 11 PL games (5W-6D) amid an unlikely European push. Nick Pope loses plot but Liverpool still needs help from Alisson (Newcastle 0-2 Liverpool): This may sounds like a silly takeaway from a 2-0 away win for a Liverpool team craving positive praise, but the Reds shouldn’t feel back to their best after looking anything but comfortable up a man and two goals for more than an hour. Man City grounded at the City Ground (Nottingham Forest 1-1 Man City): A let down looked possible if not likely for Man City following their huge midweek defeat of Arsenal, but Bernardo Silva’s goal seemed to send forth better vibes that the side’s return to the top of the table would be accompanied by title-winning performances. Gunners snap out of skid (late), aren’t going away (Villa 2-4 Arsenal): Arsenal looked like they would cough up points in this game but they never stopped believing and found a way to win it. Fantastic Five hold keys to Man Utd’s glory chase (Man Utd 3-0 Leicester): They are still going for four trophies this season and Manchester United’s unlikely bid to win all four is fueled by the excellent form of David De Gea in goal, Lisandro Martinez in defense, Casemiro in midfield, and Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes combining in attack. The Dyche difference (Everton 1-0 Leeds): Leeds came to Goodison Park ready to fight, literally and figuratively, but that wasn’t a problem for the previously moribund Toffees. If the Chelsea owners are truly going to stick with Potter for the long run, they are now very close to the stage where they will have to write this season off. Okay, he wasn’t singing but when asked about Chelsea’s fans calling for him to be fired following their defeat to Southampton (they have now won just two of their last 14 Premier League games) here was his response: “I am sure there will be people out there who think that I’m the problem. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is happy his team are facing Real now as back-to-back victories against Everton and Newcastle have given them renewed confidence they can finish in the top four of the Premier League.

The Brazil star is devastatingly quick and has added goals to his game, netting 38 times since the start of last season after never previously passing 10 in a season for Real. He hasn't had his best season in Madrid and has suffered from comparisons with Andreas Christensen, who left the Blues at the same time to join Barcelona, but the 29-year-old is still a clever and experienced centre back who will know the Liverpool players well from his time in England. Eder Militao has impressed at Real since arriving at the club in 2018, but van Dijk has been among the world's best defenders in his time at Anfield and is a must-pick for this side. 'Never been as poor': Formations, fitness and transfer fails — Reds' startling implosion explained.

“It’s the Champions League, it’s one of the biggest games in the world. Trent Alexander-Arnold played a perfect ball for Nunez to open the scoring, the kind of high-quality assist the England fullback has become so renowned for – but has disappeared for much of the season. But the Reds had the luxury this time around of making just one change to their starting XI – van Dijk returning to replace Matip – and ran riot from the opening minutes. But he had played an equally important role as a conduit between Klopp and the Liverpool ownership – and his absence hit home in the off-season and then January as Liverpool failed to make the crucial midfield signings they needed. The teen midfielder has enjoyed an eye-watering rise from a fringe player to a crucial starter, and Everton was the finest performance of his fledgling career. For all their problems on the pitch, Liverpool has been forced to battle with a series of unwelcome distractions behind the scenes. They won just one of their first seven matches – a cup replay – while being hammered by the likes of Brentford, Brighton, and Wolves. Dutch winger Cody Gakpo arrived from PSV Eindhoven in a £45m deal at the start of the month, and the Reds couldn’t add to their stocks – even while rivals like Chelsea continued to blow spending records out of the water. Much of that was down to their long-term transfer plan focusing on signing Jude Bellingham at the end of this season. A superstar at Monaco and a French international, he possesses world-class ability to win the ball both in the air and on the ground, and is exceptional at providing cover for forward-roaming fullbacks – something crucial to Liverpool’s attack. But Wednesday morning might just be the moment that shows there is light at the end of the tunnel for Jurgen Klopp and his troops in red. The departure of Sadio Mane – a crucial cog in Liverpool’s attack, but equally as vital in their high-press defence – made attacking reinforcements seem the obvious need.

Champions League Odds: Liverpool vs. Real Madrid prediction, pick ... (ClutchPoints)

The Reds face off the Whites! Catch us with or Champions League odds series, featuring our Liverpool-Real Madrid prediction and pick.

The 35-year-old French striker has not scored in four Champions League matches but is tied for second in La Liga with 11 goals in 13 contests. Despite a drop in form in the previous matches to start 2023, Real Madrid is still imposing itself as one of the most feared squads around Europe. Aside from the current Ballon d’Or holder, Real Madrid still has Vinicius Junior, who has logged seven goals and four assists in 21 La Liga appearances. After snatching two wins in the Club World Cup in Morocco, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad secured their fourth successive win in all tournaments on Saturday, defeating Osasuna 2-0 in La Liga thanks to second-half strikes from Federico Valverde and Marco Asensio. They lost the first game there in March 2009, suffering a humiliating 4-0 defeat, but the Vikings have not conceded a goal in their last two visits, winning 3-0 in October 2014 and drawing 0-0 most recently in April 2021. Thus, Liverpool should utilize this strategy and Real Madrid might not have a way out of it. Given their roster and their form, Liverpool hopes to snatch their sixth Champions League title. They are currently eighth in the Premier League and their runs in the EFL Carabao Cup and FA Cup came to an end. Current La Liga champions Real Madrid are presently second in their domestic league, but they enter this game fresh off a Club World Club Championship trophy and two wins over Elche and Osasuna. Despite some shortcomings in their domestic campaign, the Reds should still be considered the favorites in this competition. Revenge is definitely on the Reds’ mindset as they hope to avenge last year’s defeat against the Whites. Liverpool vs Real Madrid prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets ... (Sporting News)

The first leg of Liverpool vs Real Madrid, one of the most anticipated Champions League matchups of the season, takes place at Anfield.

While his work rate and flair are off the charts, he still has plenty of growing to do, and both his tackling precision and his inexperience could be tested against a veteran Real Madrid side. The teenager has been admirable in Liverpool's midfield in the absence of Thiago, supplanting the likes of James Milner and Naby Keita for a starting spot, and could be selected here. Real Madrid have gone unbeaten against Liverpool in six straight, dating back over a decade, including a pair of 3-1 victories at Anfield. Romanian official Istvan Kovacs isn't one to shy away from a booking, handing out five cards in his last Champions League match between Bayer Leverkusen and Porto, plus seven in the previous affair between Atletico Madrid and Club Brugge. Both sides sit in the top three of their respective leagues in expected goals (Real Madrid second, Liverpool third), but are further down in their expected goals allowed (Real Madrid third, Liverpool 14th). The Brazilian isn't one of the top players expected to enter the book, so he represents great value here for the possible outcomes. Instead, we've identified that both teams swing heavily towards the second half in their goalscoring abilities, especially Real Madrid. Real Madrid won two Club World Cup games against lesser competition before topping Osasuna and Elche in La Liga play for their four-match winning streak. Salah has one goal and no assists in six career matches against Real Madrid, with five defeats and one 0-0 draw. The biggest question for Liverpool is the status of Darwin Nunez who is slowly rounding into form at the club but picked up a shoulder injury late in the weekend match against Newcastle United. Toni Kroos, who has also seen his minutes managed, has been left out of the travelling squad amid a battle with illness, and Aurelien Tchouameni is also absent. Liverpool, meanwhile, sit eighth in the Premier League standings, with inconsistency reigning amongst Jurgen Klopp's recent string of results.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid: How to watch live, updates, team news (ProSoccerTalk)

Liverpool host Real Madrid in the first leg of their huge UEFA Champions League last 16 tie as a repeat of the 2021-22 final is a mouthwatering prospect.

Real Madrid have some key absentees in midfield with Toni Kroos and Aurelien Tchouameni both out but Karim Benzema is back from injury and that is a huge boost for Ancelotti. They now have key players like Virgil van Dijk back from injury and Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have all been among the goals recently as they’re finally clicking as a trio. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is happy his team are facing Real now as back-to-back victories against Everton and Newcastle have given them renewed confidence they can finish in the top four of the Premier League.

[Real Madrid](https://www.theguardian.com/football/realmadrid) were 2-0 down and the definitive shambles. 52 min Vinicius Jr beats Alexander-Arnold again – that’s becoming a painful mismatch – and wins a corner off Henderson. Rodrygo played a one-two-three on the edge of the area with Benzema, whod stretched to hit a tame left-footed shot that took a big deflection off Gomez and wrongfooted Alisson. The corner is cleared as far as Bajcetic, 30 yards out, and he curls a few yards wide. Benzema walked past the outrushing Alisson and curled the ball past the two defenders on the line with his left foot. Napoli's supporters were shepherded to the stadium in an attempt to keep them away from the home fans, while there was also a large buffer area around their section in the stadium to ensure no contact between the rivals. Frankfurt supporters set off a large pyrotechnic display behind one of the goals at the start of the game, partly in protest against local authorities after failing to reach agreement on a planned choreography due to safety concerns. "Do you really want to be the subject of a YouTube video for the next 30 years?" It was Nigeria forward Osimhen's 10th goal in his last eight appearances across all competitions, opening the scoring in the 40th minute after a period of concerted pressure from the visitors. Frankfurt's hopes of mounting a comeback were dealt a major blow minutes before when star forward Kolo Muani was sent off for catching Anguissa with his open sole as both went for the ball. Belgium star Courtois - regarded by many experts as the world's best goalkeeper - made a complete mess of his attempt to distribute to a Madrid teammate, allowing Mohamed Salah to pounce for the game's second goal. Asked whether the heavy defeat could destroy the confidence of his players, Klopp was adamant that he would not let this happen. It means we could have done better there. The result leaves Klopp and his players needing a miracle at the Bernabeu next month. Shambolic." "Embarrassing.
