To be facetious for a moment, The Martian is an American movie, and not, y'know, a martian movie just because of its setting. 2015's Room and 2018's The Favourite, both Oscar-winners, both not set in Ireland, but both produced by Element Pictures (based in Dublin), while upcoming horror That still doesn't excuse literally any time the British claim an Irish performer as one of their own, mind. While the majority of the creative folk involved are mostly inarguably Irish, the actually folk who put up the money for the movie to be made come from mostly British production companies. So how was it on Sunday night's BAFTAs that The Internet™ lost its collective minds when The Banshees Of Inisherin went home with the Best British Movie award? You'd be forgiven for thinking that there is no movie in existence more Irish than The Banshees Of Inisherin.

As the director entered the stage of London’s Royal Festival Hall to accept the Outstanding British Film Award for his film, he couldn’t help but say something about the disregard for his Irish crew. The director couldn’t help but air the disappointment of his crew while accepting the award for the said category as he comically brought up his Irish team. While the BAFTA Awards honored remarkable films yesterday, the Irish crew of the film might not be thrilled about it. And finally thanks to Rosie, our stand-in donkey, who is British. Earlier, the stuffed toy version of Jenny, the Donkey, from the film, appeared on the red carpet of the event, much to the delight of the fans.
