The temperature at Geelong had already fallen to 27.4 degrees by 3.30pm as the cool change moved east across the state. A reprieve from the heat was expected about 4pm Friday, with the temperature tipped to fall about 10 degrees in the city before tops in the mid-20s across the weekend. At 3.15pm it got to 41.8 degrees at Point Cook and 42 degrees at Laverton, the hottest reading in the metropolitan area on Friday. A cool change has arrived in Melbourne, with the temperature plummeting 13 degrees in 13 minutes after the mercury tapped 40.5 degrees in the city just before 4pm.
