McNeil's emotional tribute to Deane Lester after Flemington win (Racenet)

Jockey Jye McNeil was in tears as he honoured his mentor Deane Lester after winning the opening race at Flemington.

The popular and much-loved racing figure mentored McNeil since he was an apprentice and was instrumental to the 28-year-old getting the ride on 2020 Melbourne Cup winner Twilight Payment. Melbourne Cup winner Jye McNeil fought back tears in memory of great friend and mentor Deane Lester after riding the first winner at Flemington on Saturday in an emotion-charged start to Lightning Stakes day.
