Overwatch 2's new limited-time dating sim lets you romance Mercy or Genji, but I want so much more.

As senior narrative designer at Blizzard Miranda Moyer (who wrote the Genji storyline) told WIRED, “An actual design philosophy that we went into this game with was making it open to as many people as possible.” [Mercy](https://overwatch.fandom.com/wiki/Mercy) is an angelic overachieving scientist-slash-healer and [Genji](https://overwatch.fandom.com/wiki/Genji) is a brooding half-cyborg ninja that won't stay still long enough to get healed. The world of Overwatch has, to some degree, always been a bit more compelling than the game that inhabits it.

The game is celebrating Valentine's with a 4X4 Hanzo-only team deathmatch featuring the return of Scatter Arrow.

As if that wasn't chaotic enough, the Love of Geometry event will temporarily replace Hanzo's Storm Arrow with Scatter Arrow, a special arrow that can split and bounce off walls to deal widespread damage. The new V-Day game mode is called Love of Geometry, and will pit two teams of four against each other, with every player as Hanzo in his Cupid skin.

Instead, if you view this as a short comedy, poking fun at the fanbase, the competitive meta, and hot topics online, then Loverwatch is an infinitely better experience. That’s when you meet OW’s Hanzo cosplaying as cupid, who’ll guide you through a series of dates with the German doctor Mercy, or the cyborg ninja Genji.

Select the next answer “I need you, Angela” to score all perfect answers for your first date with Mercy. Continue the conversation by saying “What kind of hobbies do you enjoy?” And pursue a nice conversation with her. Right at the start of the next location, Mercy will be late and you’ll have to answer with “Happens to the best of us“. After this, you can choose “Yes, I want to win the heart of Mercy.” You can answer “Can’t I just say hi?” to go further. Choose her instead of Genji to start romancing him, by selecting the “It’s Mercy!” dialogue option.

We'll just have to wait and see how far the writers are willing to take this. However, while it confirms that there is not a secret third option, the response you get pretty much confirms that the Overwatch team is thinking about developing a fully-fledged Overwatch dating sim. For example, if you keep asking why the game insists on being regarded as "non canon", the writers admit that they don't want fans rushing off to edit the character wikis based on the information revealed in the game. As for who could be added next, we'll have to wait and see. Loverwatch went live yesterday, but much to the disappointment of fans, there are only two candidates: Mercy and Genji. Overwatch 2 promised players some unexpected things in season 3, and the biggest and best surprise has been the web-based dating sim, Loverwatch.

A dating sim is a great way for Blizzard to get the game and its characters out in front of more people without asking them to go through the terrors of online matchmaking. If you sign in to your Battle.net account, you'll be able to earn in-game rewards for successfully earning the admiration of the Overwatch heroes, though some rewards will be added only at a later date. In the game, you're guided by Hanzo in cupid form as he helps you navigate your way to Genji's or Mercy's heart.
