Newest Nets, Cam Johnson and Mikal Bridges, shine in introduction (NetsDaily)

“Don't get it twisted, I'm really excited to be here.” Those were the last words from Mikal Bridges in his introductory press conference in Brooklyn, ...

Bridges provided some specifics when talking about his excitement for his new squad, repeating much of the initial speculation on how the group could look: ““I love it. It was the first game he missed, not just over his five-year NBA career, but dating back to four seasons of college ball at How each of the two would miss their friends, their homes, and the lives they had built in the only post-college life they had ever known in Phoenix. And right off the bat...basically everything we did, we kind of did together. It’s only right that Bridges and Johnson are dubbed “the Twins”. There have been quotes swirling from the pair of 26-year-old wings about the emotional good-bye they had to say to the Suns.

He'll likely have an even bigger role still in Brooklyn, without a clear star on the roster. Alongside the aforementioned players, Ben Simmons, Nic Claxton, Joe Harris, Seth Curry, Cam Thomas and Royce O'Neale remain in Brooklyn. Brooklyn also got back Cam Johnson and a 2028 first-round pick swap, while the Suns received T.J. Bridges and the four unprotected first-round picks (2023, 2025, 2027 and 2029) were the main assets the Nets received from the Suns in return for Durant. The deals officially put an end to the short-lived and ill-fated superteam that Durant and Irving had attempted to create when orchestrating moves to Brooklyn and left the Nets with a deep but star-deprived roster of excellent role players. Being traded away from a team for a player they prefer, and having your life uprooted in the process—especially in the middle of the season—can't be easy for NBA players.

He’s positioned to be the secondary creator the rest of the season and he’s playing like it (while picking up Harden and Maxey full court obviously duh).

Though they can’t replace Durant and Irving’s talent, the Nets upgraded in terms of desire. He continues to look like the player he was before the ankle surgeries and will be key as the team looks to shoot around 40 3s a game to offset the loss of their stars. The duo was full of personality and energy, rivaling that of their new teammate, [Spencer Dinwiddie](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/spencer-dinwiddie-huzVN9MOnuJR3hwP/). “(Vaughn) said a couple things,” Bridges said. Throughout his postgame news conference, Bridges kept saying “we” as if he were still a Sun before he caught himself, and said he needs to get them out of his system. But offensively, the Nets sputtered in the fourth quarter, scoring just 16 points and giving up the six-point lead they held at the end of the third quarter. Defensively, the Nets have the length to guard most teams and take a lot of players out of it. On the other end was an apologetic [Damion Lee](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/damion-lee-z7v3CbWslBqSP1o7/), his teammate, who had news for him. “There were a lot of jokes, especially in the summer when KD wanted to come (to Phoenix) and we knew the pieces and who might be the ones that were gonna go,” Bridges said. We’ve had a lot of time to wrap our mind around the possibility.”

“There was a lot of excitement that put fuel to the fire. “The picture is gonna be painted a little differently. We’re gonna find a way to get it done.” “We kind of knew over the summer KD wanted to come [to Phoenix],’’ said Bridges, who led the Nets with 23 points in the loss. The ones who were gonna go would be us two.” “It’s the beginning chapter of a new era, really,’’ head coach Jacque Vaughn said.

Mikal Bridges not shocked at Suns exit via Kevin Durant deal (ABC News)

But he wasn't shocked. "It's KD," Bridges said before Saturday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. "I get it. I 100 percent get it. That's just how it is.

It was a tough pill for the swingman to follow, so Johnson tried to "keep his spirits up." "Looking back at it, new ownership [with the Suns], there was a lot of excitement, so I think that kind of put some fuel to the fire of making a move like that," Johnson said. "And I was so confused. I'm like, 'OK!'" And then just a lot of excitement for this opportunity, it's a great opportunity." "So I wouldn't say I was too shocked by it. "Obviously, I'm going to miss everyone there, miss my home, miss all my friends that's back there, but I get it. "I get it. "So if you look at it, you actually might finish playing 83 games this year," Bridges said. I 100 percent get it. Maybe I would have probably made that trade too." "He was like, 'Bro, I'm sorry to see this and that,'" Bridges said.

Nets' Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson's friendship, explained (ClutchPoints)

Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson formed a bond with the Suns, and now they're bringing it to the Nets after the Kevin Durant trade.

“I just want to say, the feeling that I’ve gotten, the excitement, it indicates that we’re all in,” Johnson said. “If you kinda follow me just a little bit, I’m always high energy, having fun, and I’m the same way off the court. And The Twins said they’re ready to bring the same flash that made them fan favorites in The Valley to The Kings Borough. And three and a half years later, we’re stuck with it.” ‘There were a lot of jokes, especially in the summer when KD wanted to come here and we knew the pieces who might be the ones that were gonna go. Phoenix selected Bridges (10th) and Johnson (11th) in back-to-back drafts in 2018 and 2019. Bridges and Johnson were in the Suns’ Buckhead hotel ahead of a matchup with the Hawks when both of their phones began ringing non-stop. “From that point on, basically everything we did, we kind of did together,” Johnson said. Mikal Bridges ready to face former Villanova teammates in new twist ... (amNY)

The rivalry between the Nets and Knicks will probably take some time to reach a true level of intensity, especially with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving gone.

I kind of wanted to join in and kind of like wanted to make them yell it louder, but I was so locked on making the free throw. People was already saying Brooklyn Bridges when I got traded, so I already knew that was gonna be a little nickname because I like it. “But I knew when I got traded, I saw that we play the Knicks and I was like, ‘okay I’m gonna see these boys early.” So I’m excited man. He quickly endeared himself to Nets fans, who serenaded him with chants of Brooklyn Bridges while he was at the foul line. But, you know, I love them boys but it’s o the court I don’t like them.” It will be a Villanova reunion of sorts as Bridges go head-to-head against his former college teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.
