'Remember the name': Dolphins prodigy stuns, Wayne's puzzling absence — 3 Big Hits.

“Remember the name, Isaiya Katoa,” Ennis said. Katoa also orchestrated the Dolphins’ second try, spotting space in the middle of the park and hitting Lachlan Hubner with a short ball to crash over. The 18-year-old halfback dropped the kick-off and put his side in harms way with a Cowboys attacking set on their line within the first 30 seconds of the club’s NRL debut. Wayne Bennett’s side were able to defend their line before Katoa showed he is a talent for the future with a smart 40/20. The master coach handed the reigns to assistant Kristian Woolf for their clash against the Cowboys and the newcomers can hold their heads high after a solid performance. “That’s a lovely moment because he is a Cairns junior, that would have come along to this ground as a kid and here he is in a Cowboys jersey scoring, well done Robert Derby,” “That’s nice from Robert Derby, big athletic and he is proving quite the finisher,” Ennis said. Fox League’s Andrew Voss also revealed Derby is a Cairns local and scored a try on the field he grew up watching rugby league at. “Did a great job, streaked away and great awareness here to keep accelerating away from Euan Aitken because he was coming,” Fox League’s Michael Ennis said. The 20-year-old Papua New Guinea international leapt high to intercept a Isaiya Katoa pass in the first half, streaking away for a 95-metre runaway try. “Heartbreaking stuff for the Dolphins, they have been enormous,” Ennis said. However, in the closing minutes of the clash the Cowboys had two sets on the Dolphins’ line and Moceidreke scored his second before Zac Laybutt missed the conversion finishing the game on level scores.

Cowboys rally late to draw with Dolphins (NRL.COM)

We lacked a bit of continuity with what we were doing. I thought our back five were really strong and James Tamou was our best middle, got through a lot of work and I wouldn’t have expected anything less." "We were quite clunky close to the try line. - Dolphins hooker Harrison Graham left the field in the 25th minute of the match with a knee injury. - Jack Bostock created history scoring the first ever Dolphins try in the seventh minute of the match. NRL Trials: Draws aplenty as Broncos and Titans, Dolphins and ... (The Roar)

The Dolphins played their first official game against NRL opposition – without their head coach. Wayne Bennett chose not to travel to Cairns for the game, ...

Someone, somewhere, is going to tap the well of talent that flows down from PNG. The defensive intent and organisation seemed excellent, albeit against a far from full strength Cows, and in the second half they were able to repel repeated advances into their territory. Isiaya Katoa, the best of the bunch today, is yet to play NRL. If Jamayne Isaako is the answer, I don’t want to know the question. At Brisbane, he gets the luxury of being one of several exceptional options. In the early game, there was a mixed bag on offer from the debutant Dolphins. This wasn’t their best 13, but it might well have been their premier edge combinations, and they looked as flimsy as ever. The hype might well be real. Given the disparity in experience on display, that’s not surprising. All eyes were on Reece Walsh’s debut back in Broncos colours, and he didn’t disappoint. The pair drew 26 all last year and 24 all this time around. The Dolphins played their first official game against NRL opposition – without their head coach.

Cowboys and Dolphins play out NRL pre-season draw (The West Australian)

The North Queensland Cowboys have shared the spoils with the Dolphins following a last-minute try in their NRL trial in Cairns.

Jack Bostock crossed first for the Dolphins and Lachlan Hubner had their second a few minutes before the break. The fullback followed his own grubber kick midway through a hot and humid first half and batted the ball to Robert Derby for the winger's second try in 40 minutes after earlier running 97 metres off an intercept. "His quickest route barring injuries is through that utility role, so we're trying to cover a few bases with him and get him some experience in the centres - which he hasn't had a lot - and playing in the middle, too."
