The Oxford Circle · Malcolm and Kate · Lady Phoebe and Adam · Vic · Rhys · Roald · Simon and Sophie · Gemma, Blessing, and Connie.
The only main character introduced in Part 1 of You Season 4 that doesn’t come from the Oxford circle is Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman). Gemma is the loudest and one of the most unbearable members of the friend group, who often thinks being racist and classist is just speaking truths that no one else dares. Roald is quick to anger, violent, and believes with all his heart that the rich should force their will on everyone else. Whenever Joe has to spend time with the Oxford circle, he tries to stay close to Rhys, the only person with whom he can have an actual conversation. Rhys is also the author of one of the best autobiographies Joe has ever read. Among all the members of the Oxford circle, Rhys (Ed Speleers) is Joe’s favorite. Kate is also the only member of the Oxford circle who seems to have built her fortune herself instead of inheriting it from wealthy parents. Another prominent member of the Oxford circle is Lady Phoebe (Tilly Keeper), an aristocrat who’s all about good vibes. However, while Joe will once again start a new season looking for a quiet life away from trouble, fate wants to punish him for his crimes and will force him to spend time with the most despicable group of friends ever. Kate is fierce, competent, and focused, making her the exact opposite of her lover. At the end of Season 2, we learned that Love is not who Joe thinks she is – and certainly not who we thought she was either. You Season 4 Part 1 is now streaming on Netflix. The last five episodes of You Season 4 are Badgley’s most impressive performance to date. Season 4 of You is bold and unexpected with twists and turns that are simply wicked. You is the master of twists, and Season 4 is no exception. Yes, it’s fun watching Joe scramble to pin down his own mysterious stalker, but it lacks that extra spark that kept us on the edge of our seats the last three seasons. The second half of Season 4 is admittedly stronger than the first. Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), resident serial killer with a penchant for baseball caps and pretentious literature, is back for the newest season of You – but this time, he’s got a new name, new city, and new objective. All of that said, however, Season 4 proved that You can still be good without Love because of one key reason: it finally broke its [tried-and-true formula](https://collider.com/you-season-4-repetitive/). There are certainly some standouts in You’s new supporting cast – Charlotte Ritchie gives a beautiful depth to her character Kate, who may be a member of the elite, but has an emotional backstory that balances out her initial “ice queen” act. He is surrounded by a new cast of eccentric characters – a group of friends who all met as students at Oxford. The start of Season 4 sees Joe in London with a brand-new identity: Professor Jonathan Moore, a college instructor of American short fiction.

You can count on some creepy Joe scenes, along with his many hot takes against the world via voiceover, but play along with this season of You like the Cluedo game it intends to be. [ostentatious wealth, with mixed results.](https://mashable.com/article/eat-the-rich-comedies-2022) While we're not actually supposed to like all these rich folks, they are the target of this season's mystery, and the lack of incentive to empathize with them makes Part 1 a tedious watch. [the myths of suburban "self-made" America](https://mashable.com/article/you-season-3-performative-activism), and modern-day New York and Los Angeles in their full social media prime. So, rather than treating this season of You as serious commentary or an extension of the past three seasons, enjoy it for the novelty and fun it tries to offer instead. You's new cast of characters may be perfect props for its murder mystery game, but they're boring and lack the certain [callous chaos](https://mashable.com/article/infinity-pool-review) that makes the genre fun. Peacock, You Season 4 Part 1 introduces us to a cast of characters that fit a murder mystery's many caricatures and that all exist as players on the killer's board game. While mysteries are usually good fun, Part 1 of You Season 4 begins to drag fairly quickly because, believe it or not, Joe is the most likable character this season. Joe's new crew of nepo-baby socialites are entirely boring and so exaggeratedly out-of-touch that it's impossible to care that they're being killed off one by one; given that their convoluted monologues about the woes of caviar or their school years at Oxford earn them more screen time than any other characters, this is a problem. If you thought the slew of cartoonish characters ends there, think again, because we also have Gemma (Eve Austin), Roald (Ben Wiggins), Blessing (Ozioma Whenu), and Connie (Dario Coates) as aristocratic archetypes to add to the playing field. You Season 4 feels like a completely new show with a completely new Joe. [to Los Angeles](https://mashable.com/article/you-netflix-season-2-review) and California's affluent suburbs in previous seasons as he moves from obsession to obsession, transforming himself each time. It's been over four years since the addictive television adaptation of Caroline Kepnes's You hit the small screen, and what a wild ride it's been.
You season 4 part 1 has plenty of absurdity, crafting a mystery that is as comical as it is nail-biting & puts Joe in more danger than he ever before.
Ultimately, You season 4 part 1 still has plenty of fun, and that's all one can ask for from any time spent with Joe Goldberg. Fortunately, the snobbery still leaves room for absurdity, and You season 4 part 1 has plenty of it, crafting a murder mystery that is as comical as it is nail-biting while putting Joe in more danger than ever before. With Love out of the picture, the show was going to have to make some drastic changes in order to top or at least match the pitch-perfect ridiculousness of season 3. With so many shows and movies skewering the rich, it's hard not to feel like one is being hit over the head with the message that rich people are bad. [You season 3 ending](https://screenrant.com/you-season-3-ending-explained-meaning-questions/) saw Joe kill Love, fake his death, and follow Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) to Paris, season 4 picks up in London. Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) has been around the block and, from the streets of Brooklyn to the suburbs of Northern California, he has left a trail of bodies in his wake.
The fourth installment of Penn Badgeley's turn as his old Gossip Girl character gone bad is the perfect guilty pleasure.
As a result, this season’s Joe is more likeable and a touch pathetic, and it’s exemplified in the power switch up, with Joe being the one who’s stalked this time around – possibly by a member of the very same friendship group he’s just joined. You is hot trash, but it’s also riveting, and we will keep watching. Yes, it was fun being a bit scared of him during the first and second season, but the writing couldn’t toe that line for four seasons and now the internet has reluctantly ended up rooting for him. Luckily, the writers know this, and speed through it a little faster than previous seasons. Season four of You starts with a very necessary location change. If you enjoyed the previous seasons, you will love this.

But the fact that there is a part 2 is extremely frustrating, not just because part 1 ends in a cliffhanger. For once, Joe is the one in the dark. In my opinion, ahead of season 4, You was skirting a very dangerous zone, where viewers felt fatigued by the sameness of the storytelling. [Emily in Paris season 3](https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/emily-in-paris-season-3), You doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. How this all comes about is a very flimsy deus ex machina, which is one of the weakest points of the first episode. Still, she ended up dead by the season 3 finale. With Joe choosing to be blandly inconspicuous, the supporting characters are there to provide color. In season 4, Joe falls in with a group of very wealthy, privileged, pampered a**holes. As the star of the show, much of You rests on Penn Badgley’s performance — and he’s better than ever in season 4. Most tend to fall into the category of “whodunnit” (Only Murders in the Building), “howcatchem” (Poker Face) or even “whodead” (White Lotus). Sure, You has always been a bit absurd — Joe’s “undercover” look of a mere baseball cap is on par with Superman hiding with a pair of glasses. The hunter is now also the prey.

Subverting repetitive patterns and finding new directions to pull Joe in is the name of the game for season 4. He and Joe share a love of books, among other similarities. But you know it's just a matter of time, because it's Joe. Joe is quickly entangled in business he strictly set out to avoid. The rest of the series is mainly concerned with Joe facing the Eat The Rich killer who also somehow knows his true identity – but will Marienne appear in the series again? But he tasks Joe with one last thing: because Marienne knows Joe is alive, he now has to kill her. The last we saw of Joe in season 3 was wandering around Paris, a place Marienne had mentioned to Joe about going earlier in the season. He has his first flashback and explains that he thought the distance he had travelled would count for something to Marienne. After seeing Marienne, he explains that his only plan was to get out of London but he's approached by Elliot Tannenberg (Adam James), an employee of Ray Quinn's, Joe's former father-in-law. He's wondering whether he did commit the murder or not and in his narrative monologue, is penning it as if to Marienne. She runs into an old warehouse building, hiding in a disused room and thinks she's hidden away from Joe, but he confronts her in the stairwell. But in fact, we learn pretty early on (as in, in season 4's first episode) what happened to her. As previously mentioned, Marienne got caught up in the Love and Joe saga – and it very nearly got her killed. Although it looked like Love was going to kill Marienne, she had a change of heart and thus, Marienne's whereabouts were unknown going into season 4. But the librarian had enough problems of her own to contend with before Joe's arrival.

Rhys expects him to be grateful that Roald's trussed and ready to be posthumously framed for all the murders. He conks Joe in the head with a rifle, and Joe wakes up chained in Hampsie's dungeon. Kate takes the opportunity to come clean to Joe: her father's one of the most powerful and most evil men on the planet. Phoebe bursts into Kate's room and perches like a queen on the trunk with the body, and Joe and Kate try to hold it together as she tells them that she caught Adam with a servant. You texts again, and at first Joe wants to lash out at this upending of his life, but he holds back, realizing that what you wants is a kindred spirit. Roald tells Kate to quit playing with boys and to claim her place in the world. Joe saves the day with his observation skills, leading Kate to the vandal thanks to the hostel key he saw sticking out of her pocket. Joe has no memory of doing a murder, and he curses the whole time he's dragging the body to the boot of his borrowed car. Adam warns Joe that Malcolm's a blackmailer, and Joe realizes this honestly makes it unlikely that Adam's the murderer. To avoid the paparazzi, Joe slips in through the back with a woman who knows the door code. Phoebe invites him to Simon's gallery opening and orders him to select a suit from the closet of freebies she gets from designers.

However, her father constantly tries to find a way to be in her life. She even tells Joe that her family is wealthier than any of her friends’ families. So later, Joe approaches Kate to talk to her about what happened at dinner with the rest of the friend group. However, it’s how rich she is that is surprising. But what is Kate’s big secret? When we’re first introduced to Kate, we learn about her through Joe’s research.
Penn Badgley has spoken about the new direction Netflix's You is taking, calling the reset a "fun challenge".
[You season four deviates from the storyline of the original book series](/news/tv-film/you-netflix-books-differences/) by Caroline Kepnes and carves out a new plot for Joe in The Big Smoke. [TV Insider](https://www.tvinsider.com/1080584/you-season-4-part-1-penn-badgley-joe-goldberg/) about the new direction, he said: "Part 1 was a nice reprieve. And with this season, it was more true than ever."
The Netflix thriller's latest episodes have its antihero, played by Penn Badgley, on the back foot as he navigates the world of London's ultrarich.
In London, “not only are there people who have a ridiculous amount of money and have no idea what’s going on in the world, but they have titles,” Gamble said. “We never felt any responsibility to reform Joe, to give him a particularly happy ending,” Gamble said. It’s an evolution that Badgley is also keenly aware of: Joe is now “managing to grow emotionally, while not growing at all,” he said in a recent video interview. In Joe’s twisted mind, “he seems to actually respect her more,” he added. The stories he told himself with previous love interests, like Beck in Season 1 or Love, “stopped in those scenes with Marienne,” Gamble said. Setting the fourth season in London was, in part, a practical one: Paris would have been more complicated in terms of language and logistics. The season sees Joe “walking himself closer and closer to a self-awareness that he really won’t know what to do with,” Gamble said. Ahead of each new season, the production team ask themselves, “what kind of thriller we’re going to put him in,” Gamble said. His plans, however, are quickly scuppered when members of the ultrarich group of friends he resentfully joins start getting killed, and Joe must find the murderer before he’s framed for their crimes. (“In a more just society, we would all see Joe as problematic and not be interested in the show, but that’s not the society we live in,” Badgley [told The New York Times in 2019](https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/24/arts/television/penn-badgley-you-netflix.html).) Not only is it set in London, but we soon find Joe on the back foot, being manipulated by a mysterious enemy who may be an even more accomplished killer. Marienne fled to Paris with her daughter — and Joe vowed to find her.
How? Well, according to Joe, Evanesce is a high-security phone application that erases messages after they've been read. So, once the mysterious killer sends a ...
Evanesce is not a real phone application, so you will not be able to download it to your phone. But is Evanesce a real phone application? Can you download it to your phone from an app store? Obviously, the mysterious killer doesn’t want to be discovered, so they contact Joe through a phone application called “Evanesce.” This app allows the killer to say pretty much whatever they want to say to Joe without them getting in trouble. So, once the mysterious killer sends a message to Joe and Joe reads it, it disappears immediately. This season, Joe hopes to start fresh with a clean slate and his past erased, but obviously, that’s not going to happen.
Charlotte Ritchie has joined the cast of You, but where have you seen her before?
The comedy-drama ran for four series and wrapped in 2016, she starred alongside big names such as Jack Whitehall, Zawe Ashton, Joe Thomas and more! The following year she even appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet Fire as an uncredited extra – jealous! Joe Goldberg finds a new woman to be the object of his deadly affections.
And in its fourth season, "You" is beginning to turn from sinister to soap opera. Penn Badgley's psychotic stalker and murderer Joe Goldberg has his own stalker ...
It doesn't help that the "eat the rich" subgenre has been done and redone on TV and film lately, much better than "You" manages here, at least in the first part of the season. The slice of British upper-crust society "You" slips Joe into this time around seems more of a caricature, perhaps a pitfall of transporting an American series abroad. A series intently fascinated with books and literature makes its inspiration well known from the outset, as Joe peruses a stack of Agatha Christie novels, searching for a formula that will help him find out who the "you" is. Of course, his life never stays quiet, and after one drunken night out with members of the upper class and a mysterious death, Joe is involved in a new crime spree and is drawn to yet another woman, icy Kate (Charlotte Ritchie, "Call the Midwife"). And in its fourth season, "You" is beginning to turn from sinister to soap opera. It might as well hit the audience over the head with a copy of "The Mousetrap."
Among the new characters who entered his orbit were his new neighbors, Delilah Alves and her younger sister Ellie. Joe ends up taking a liking to Ellie, who ...
And with Joe faking his death in the season 3 finale, it’s unclear whether Joe is still finding a way to get money to her. And it seems to be working in the first five episodes of the season, at least for the most part. In fact, there is not even any direct mention of Ellie within the first five episodes of season 4 which isn’t too surprising. Love’s plan is to then use her family’s lawyers to help get the case closed which would still leave Ellie stuck in Child Protective Services. Upon arriving in LA, Joe assumed a new identity and began to make a new life for himself. Among the show’s many breakout characters was Ellie Alves played by the amazingly talented Jenna Ortega, who became a true standout in the show’s second season.

Netflix's stalker thriller You, starring Penn Badgley, is back to skewer England's elite with a murder mystery that lacks the energy of previous seasons.
This is our fourth go-around with Joe Goldberg, and if we can be sure of anything, it's that as much as he says he wants to, he can never stay in control of his dark impulses for too long. Joe and Love's relationship made their psycho-killer back-and-forth more complex and interesting, and Love's impulsivity kept Joe on his toes, giving that season an energy that is lacking with this anonymous "Eat the Rich" killer (as the press dubs them). In these first five episodes, Joe feels almost caged in (hilarious since his cage is nowhere to be found) and too in control. With his new freedom and trusty black baseball cap, he sets off for Paris to try to track down the new object of his affection, librarian and single mom Marienne ( [Tati Gabrielle](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/tati-gabrielle/3030850941/)). While Joe might complain about genre formulas, plopping Joe into a murder mystery and putting him on the defense shakes up You's own formula. No, Joe finds himself in the middle of something he might have even more disdain for: a murder mystery. Joe was also pitted against an adversary in Season 3, and the framework certainly feeds into Joe's delusion that deep down he is some kind of hero, that his kills are necessary. Honestly, You only seems to be having more fun with age and has never been as laugh-out-loud funny as it is in Season 4. Aside from reminding us of Joe's sociopathic perspective on his own life (and rampant avoidance of anything resembling guilt or accountability), the pithy line of voice-over also reminds us of You's uncanny ability to pull off a major reset each season. The season ends with a real romp of an episode in which Joe kills his impulsive murderer wife, Love ( [Victoria Pedretti](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/victoria-pedretti/3030666287/)), drops their son off with neighbors, and fakes his own death before blowing up their house (a person only needs eight toes, right?). [You](https://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/you/1000222158/), our resident serial killer Joe Goldberg ( [Penn Badgley](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/penn-badgley/3030057170/)) gives us a nice little summary of his feelings on his big post-Love move to Europe: "If L.A. Also, do we think he actually watched The Good Place, and if so, does he picture himself a redeemable demon like Ted Danson's Michael, or was he just in it for all the bud hole jokes?

But the breakneck speed of this season — on an already marathonable show — does warrant some unease: This season feels like You is racing toward the emotional climax of Joe’s story. The genius of You has always been knowing when and how to subvert genre to make it exponentially more compelling. All of Joe’s previous indiscretions (bodies) start to catch up to him when he’s targeted by the hottest new serial killer on the block, the Eat the Rich Killer. And regardless of where you end up placing your bets, it’s just straight-up satisfying to see Joe bested repeatedly, a loving reminder the noose is always tightening. The absolute best change of the season, however, is when You fully embraces a genre shift by diving headfirst into murder mystery tropes. To be clear, this is a nonsexual connection (sorry to the queers, I look forward to the fanfic), but there’s an interesting mirror between Joe’s relationship with Rhys and his relationship with Kate.

He also claims that "Heartbreak is always a catalyst for a new path" — one that we'll see unravel in season four of You. Joe cleans up the crime scene and plants evidence to frame Love for all the killings that ensued throughout the season, including the murder of his neighbors, Natalie and Gil. If that wasn't disturbing enough, he cut his own toes off to make a meat pie and fake his death for a clean slate (which he also frames Love for). After marrying and having a baby boy with Love Quinn (a.k.a his victim in season two), Joe moves to the suburban neighborhood of Madre Linda. After killing Marienne's boyfriend, Ryan, to get him out of the picture for good, Joe's plans to run away with her go awry when his wife finds out and attempts to poison him. The new season of You hits Netflix on Thursday, February 9, which means Joe Goldberg is about to wreak havoc on our TV screens yet again.

She visibly detests Joe throughout much of the season and doesn't allow him to pull the wool over her eyes, refusing to (immediately) fall for his American wiles and making his life difficult in the process. He's introduced to this innocuous world through fellow professor Malcolm (Stephen Hagan) but when something tragic happens in the season's first episode, Joe must find his feet in the group, while also figuring out who's a cold-blooded killer. With Joe's life dominated by thoughts of paranoia and suspicion, it feels like a comeuppance in a way – he can finally get a taste of what the women in previous seasons have felt. Like any good whodunnit, he has to suss out the clues, the backstories and lives of his counterparts, all with the threat of his true identity being revealed. But it's the fact that on top of being set and filmed in an entirely new location, the series itself feels like it's finally been given a new lease of life.

Of course, neither of them suggest calling the police – Joe because, well, he has history (and literally knows where quite a few bodies are buried) and Kate because she doesn’t want the bodyguards at the house to be involved, because they work for her morally dubious father, and she has major daddy issues. “You” has survived its fourth season, but that rope now looks seriously frayed. Yet while the fourth season begins in characteristically twisty fashion, before it’s over the Netflix hit feels dangerously close to jumping the shark, having become a bit too cute for its (or Your, if You prefer) own good. Charlotte Ritchie joined the cast in Series 7 last year as Bonnie, a widow who becomes one of the vicar’s love interests, beginning a tempestuous romance which is a pleasing distraction from the fact that this tiny Cambridgeshire village seems to attract a wildly disproportionate number of murders. Joe Goldberg returns for another rousing game of cat-and-mouse on You Season 4 — only this time, he's the mouse.
Eventually, Joe is shocked to find that Rhys is both his stalker as well as the killer. That’s not going away anytime soon.) And now that Rhys has his number, he’s ready to deliver a dose of Joe Goldberg justice. Once he’s back in London, the news is aflutter with the news of the latest killing … There’s never been such a disconnect in the way that Joe presents himself to the outside world and what he’s really thinking in the innermost reaches of his devious brain. Thanks to his star pupil Nadia, Joe has already read “Good Man, Cruel World,” Rhys’s captivating memoir of how he went from rags to riches, pulling himself out of a childhood of trauma and poverty and ending up in the company of high society. Under the principle of Chekov’s gun — a gun in the first act will resurface by the third — it seems that Marianne will somehow come into play later in the season. Why the detective accepted a simple image of a locket as proof of her murder is perplexing, but whatever. The first half of the season establishes the cat-and-mouse game between Joe and his stalker, even revealing the man behind the shady, disappearing texts in the final few moments of the Part 1 finale. Joe’s focus immediately shifts as he scrambles to try and figure out who is stalking him, why, and what they have planned for him in the long run. When we first check in with Joe, he’s living a pretty normal life, working as a professor of literature and spending his nights curled up with a book and a cuppa in his fancy flat. It’s a delightful twist that upends the typical You narrative, putting Joe Goldberg on the defensive instead of the offensive. [You](https://www.denofgeek.com/you/), Joe (Penn Badgley) finds himself on the other side of the Atlantic.
The "Eat the Rich" Killer is revealed in the final episode of Part 1 of "You" season 4. Find out who the murderer is here.
Before leaving, Rhys kicks an open-flame lantern and sets the creepy cellar up in flames, but Joe and Roald manage to escape and return to London with the others. We can guess that the reason Rhys is killing his “friends” is because he legitimately *hates* them, but his true motive is undisclosed. Joe stops him but is then knocked out and chained in a medieval-style dungeon by Rhys Montrose — author, potential London mayoral candidate, and the true “Eat the Rich” killer. [Desperate to let go of his past](https://www.seventeen.com/celebrity/movies-tv/a42733183/how-beck-died-you-netflix/) and avoid the (many) mistakes he made, Joe — sorry, Jonathan — tries to have a “quiet European holiday.” But then he meets his coworker, Malcolm, and begrudgingly falls in with a group of super-wealthy friends from Oxford who now dominate London’s social scene. Rhys wants Joe to kill Roald, so he can frame him for the murders of Malcolm, Simon, and Gemma. Naturally (because this is You we’re talking about) Malcolm ends up dead, knife straight through the heart, in the premiere episode of season 4, part 1.

[Collider](https://collider.com/you-season-4-ed-speleers-interview/) about what it was like to get into the mindset of the “Eat the Rich” killer. “And the more you get your head around these sorts of people, the more you can actually just start flexing around and actually really relish all their mannerisms and their characteristics.” He continued, “Sometimes it’s actually really harder to play the guys that are very grounded all the time. While Roald, who supected Joe was the “Eat the Rich” killer, is knocked out, Rhys tells Joe that he plans to pin the “Eat the Rich” murders on Roald to save both of them. He continued, “Then to go further and really uncover what he’s all about in relation to the show, and that actually is much beyond how we first see him and even how he unravels later on,” he continues. When Joe struggles to kill Roald, Rhys sets the room on fire and tells Joe that he plans to frame him instead for the “Eat the Rich” murders while leaving him and Roald to die. “He tries to open up Joe’s eyes to another way of thinking and understanding, and he’s very persuasive.” He continued, “It was one of the big things I talked through with [creator and showrunner] Sera Gamble before starting. “Some of these characters can sometimes come across quite heightened, which actually allows a lot of room to play and a lot of freedom,” he explains. Rhys tells Joe that he wants him to kill Roald, and he will take care of everything else to frame Roald as the “Eat the Rich” killer. “And I feel that what I got to embody with Rhys, or got to try and take on, was the idea of someone balancing himself between two walks of society, two walks of life, and actually as a result struggling with what his existence was growing up. Rhys reveals he was the “Eat the Rich” killer in episode 5 of You season 4 when he finds Joe and Roald in the woods outside of Phoebe’s Hampsbridge House and kidnaps both of them. From the highly anticipated new season of You, to the unique story of 1960s soap star Noele Gordon, there really is a lot to sink your teeth into this weekend.
The unique element of You is its ability to reinvent what it is every season. Based on the real-life of Noele Gordon, Helena Bonham Carter takes on the lead role. The series is written and created by It's A Sin, Doctor Who and Queer As Folk icon Russell T. The show also has a remarkable ability to tell relatable real-world stories (despite the outlandish plot), in a way that makes the show feel smarter than it actually is. What: Noele (or Nolly to her friends) was a legend in her own lifetime. Season 4 takes yet another drastic and outlandish turn, now presented as a whodunnit, set in England. Trust us, stop reading immediately and block out the next 30 hours to catch up. The psychological thriller is known for some incredibly out-there plotlines, bordering on ridiculousness, but it's completely addictive. How are we almost at the midpoint in February already? You's latest relocation to the UK and dramatic shift in genre and tone definitely put this at risk of jumping the shark. Where did the time go? Joe starts anew in London, but old habits die hard. A recap of 'Joe Takes a Holiday,' episode one of season four of 'You' on Netflix, starring Penn Badgley.
His anonymous texter greets him in Joe’s standard fashion: “Hello, you.” And then this person takes credit for killing Malcolm (!) and expresses their surprise at Joe’s willingness to dispose of the body (and Amid this hostility, though, she assures Joe she did not out him to the cops as her savior, and that his presence is requested at a dinner she’s throwing for Simon. In no time at all, he finds a sawmill whose operator is slipping out to the pub to catch the last half of a soccer game, which means Joe has the place to himself and plenty of time to dispose of Malcolm’s corpse. In exchange for a cut of that money Joe pulled from Love’s secret account — the one he emptied “the day she baked you into a pie,” as Elliot artfully puts it — Elliot will supply Joe with this excellent new identity so he can “fuck off into the sunset.” He will tell Mr. Quinn that Joe is dead, and all Joe needs to do is lay low, pay Elliot (not sure how that part is getting worked out), and kill the only person who knows that Joe is still alive: Marienne. Because this show requires that Joe’s stalking of a woman always benefits the woman he is stalking (until he kills her), for only Joe can protect a woman from the even worse men who would do her harm, Kate gets grabbed and violently mugged. [Big Banshees energy!!](https://youtu.be/uRu3zLOJN2c?t=48) It’s hilarious how quickly Joe assumes he must have done this in a drunken haze. The only person with whom Joe seems to really click is Rhys, the author who would be mayor. Joe doesn’t even change out of his sweater for this supposedly fun thing he hopes never to do again. Back at the flat, Malcolm pops over to thank the man he calls “John-Boy” for coming to Kate’s rescue. [Dan Humphrey](https://gossipgirl.fandom.com/wiki/Dan_Humphrey).)
