The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to Breath of the Wild, got a new trailer at the Nintendo Direct on Wednesday.
We know how to say the game’s name now, but there is plenty left to fans’ imaginations, and [it’s spawning theories based on the games](https://www.polygon.com/nintendo-switch/22538883/legend-of-zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom-breath-of-the-wild-2-theories-lore). Also, Link [has luscious, long hair now](https://www.polygon.com/e3/22535294/legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-2-link-nintendo-switch) and sports a new set of powers, like the ability to [pass through walls](https://www.polygon.com/e3/22535312/breath-of-the-wild-2-trailer-breakdown-link-new-powers-enemies-e3-nintendo-direct). The new look comes ahead of the game’s upcoming May release on Nintendo Switch. The game will launch with a special collector’s edition as well.
There's a way to effectively get 'The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom' for $50 at launch.
Nintendo dropped a killer trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to close out its latest Direct. So, you could use one to snap up Tears of the Kingdom and get, say, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey or even something as recent as Fire Emblem Engage for the equivalent of $30. Of course, it’s not the only major platform holder to make that jump. However, Nintendo later said in a press release that the sequel to Breath of the Wild will cost $70, confirming earlier leaks. That suggests Nintendo may be specially pricing Tears of the Kingdom, knowing players will likely purchase it regardless of the increased cost. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is likely to hit similar heights – and may even eclipse these total sales when it launches on 12 May 2023. A major decline in hardware sales contributed to this loss – although software sales continued steadily with smash hits like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet selling 20.61 million copies in the reported period. An exact reason for the rise has not been specified, but it’s easy to assume inflation is to blame. A collector’s edition will be priced higher, at US $129.99 (AU $187.54) – and will include an art book, steel case, poster, and badges.

Also, it should be noted that Ganon/Ganondorf has technically had voice actors in the past. It's just that the character was previously largely limited to ...
Many expect Tears of the Kingdom to be a bigger and better version of Breath of the Wild, and it seems like the game’s ambitions in that pursuit will include more voice acting across the board. I doubt we’ll get full voice acting in a Zelda game quite yet, but the series is certainly trending in that direction. We should probably be used to such things at this point in the grand history of the gaming side of the internet, but you should be aware that the conversations around Ganon are seemingly going to get a lot more intense. There’s a long way to go, but the early sample of that voice certainly suggests that Nintendo found a pretty good English voice actor for such a big role. If we’re all willing to assume that is Ganon we hear at the beginning of the Tears of the Kingdom trailer, then those few lines represent a significant moment for the character. The latest trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was…ok.

From flying drones to new enemies, we're excited by many of the things we saw in the new The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom trailer.
From more kinds of enemies (from flying lizards that carry Bokoblins to fire-breathing dragons to what I’m pretty sure was a ReDead), more tools like heat-seeking arrows and some kind of bomb-thrower, and more ground (sky?) to cover thanks to the new hovercraft and hot air balloon technology. So whether Hyrule is intact during the events of Tears of the Kingdom remains to be seen. The main imagery of the game so far — Link’s corrupted arm and the mummified Ganon — all paint a much darker sequel Despite two new trailers within months, we’re still not any closer to learning more about what is happening in Hyrule during the events of Tears of the Kingdom. There’s a menacing red moon hovering in the sky, the Bokoblins have free rein over the land, and everything is shrouded in dark, miserable gloom. It seems like Nintendo thought those were pretty good ideas and decided to integrate vehicles directly into the sequel, Tears of the Kingdom.
Hylian is the fictional language of the Zelda world that both Link and Zelda herself speak. That's who it sounds like in the reversed audio, so it may be ...
There's also the possibility this is a new language, something we haven't heard in any Zelda game. These sounded like "Help us please" and chanting of the same phrase, not unlike in the new Tears of the Kingdom teaser. Those phrases were easier to make out, but also left people with more questions. That's who it sounds like in the reversed audio, so it may be something unintelligble that requires translating.

Two of the more special summons from the amiibo are with the Super Smash Bros. Specifically, The Legend of Zelda amiibo will be used to change the look of Link’s parasail and grant different materials and weapons. Nintendo shared four amiibo and the parasails they’ll unlock: the new Link in Tears of the Kingdom, Link from Majora’s Mask, Link riding a horse from Breath of the Wild, and Zelda and Loftwing from Skyward Sword. Nintendo slipped a note into its [Nintendo Direct](https://www.polygon.com/23590977/nintendo-direct-february-2023-everything-announced) news release Wednesday night to show its new Tears of the Kingdom Link amiibo, but also to share that older amiibo will have functionality in the upcoming game.
Tears of the Kingdom's latest trailer suggests that one of the most important villains in Zelda history could be returning to the franchise.
However, given that the ReDead in the Tears of the Kingdom trailer appears to be lingering in the shadows of that red moon, I’d sooner guess that they can exist in the world following whatever event we catch a glimpse of in that trailer. Actually, they were notably absent from Breath of the Wild, though it appears that the cataclysmic event we see in Tears of the Kingdom‘s trailer has brought them back into the world. That also raises additional questions about Tears of the Kingdom‘s (and Breath of the Wild‘s) ambiguous place on the greater Zelda timeline. The other notable returning villain in Tears of the Kingdom is significantly less speculative. Before we dive into any of that, please know that (to the best of our knowledge) much of this information is largely speculative at this time. While a lot of the talk surrounding that trailer so far has focused on Ganon (and what appears to be Ganon’s

Tears of the Kingdom doing something similar, but adding a cosmetic reward into the mix is a nice addition to the game. Following the February 2023 Nintendo Direct, the Big N has confirmed that there will not only be a new Link Amiibo for Tears of the Kingdom, but previously released Amiibo will also have functionality and unlock bonuses in the game. This is a neat and fun way to continue to make use of Amiibo functionality (especially if you’ve been collecting them for a long time).
