We got hands-on with the brand new Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra. Here's everything you need to know about the specs, price and how to buy.
With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the S23 processes graphics faster than the S22. The 200MP back-facing camera is high-quality enough to print out photos and blow them up onto canvases, and the 12MP front-facing camera has super HDR, so your selfies will look as flawless as you do. Both are flat, whereas the S23 Ultra includes a 6.8-inch, newly-shaped curvature display. The all-new S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra smartphones come in four different colourways: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender, and all colours are sourced from plants as part of Samsung’s eco-conscious initiative. One of the most fun experiences from the Samsung hands-on was taking photos on the S23 Ultra. If you pre-order a new S23 smartphone before 16th February, Samsung will also double the phone’s storage. Although it sounds trivial, it is important to own a device which you feel comfortable holding. We spent a lot of time trying out the new functions, particularly the camera. Samsung has advanced its S Series with the all new Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra smartphones. If you’re a Samsung user, you’ll know how easy it is to see what’s at risk and what’s not, which offers much-needed peace of mind. Plus, the new S23 Series promises a better gaming experience. It also comes in four different colour variations: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender.
Samsung launched its new Galaxy S23 smartphone lineup Wednesday. The S23 will go head-to-head with Apple's iPhone 14.
The company also unveiled its new Galaxy Book3 laptop lineup Wednesday, which includes a third Ultra model with a 16-inch AMOLED display. The firm reported operating profit of 4.31 trillion won ($3.4 billion), down 69% from the same period a year ago. The firm showed off software that lets users drag and drop files between its laptops and smartphones. The S23 series will go head-to-head with Apple's iPhone 14, which launched last September. The Galaxy S23 smartphone lineup features three new models: the standard S23, a slightly more expensive S23+ and the top-of-the-line S23 Ultra. The S23 Ultra houses a huge 5,000 mAh, or milliampere hour, battery.
Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra is the flagship phone that does everything — a formula that now includes a super high-res camera. There's a new Snapdragon 8 Gen ...
Correction, February 1st, 4:52PM ET: A previous version of this article stated that the Samsung S23 series uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The phones actually use an overclocked version of the processor tuned specifically for Samsung called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy. This chipset is in all versions of the phone sold around the globe — not just in the US, as a previous version stated. While the Ultra offers a whole mess of cameras to cover different focal lengths and needs, Google and Apple are letting software do some of the lifting. But as far as big phones go, the Ultra seems to be just a little easier to use this time around. The back panel and the screen also curve around the sides a bit less, so you might be less likely to run your S Pen off the edge of the device, which tended to happen with the more rounded design. The long edges of the phone are slightly less curved, so there’s more of a flat surface to grip when you’re holding the device. This is also a chipset tuned specifically for Samsung called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy with an upgraded GPU that claims higher performance and better battery efficiency. It’ll be interesting to see if — and where — Samsung adopts this method in the future. Battery life wasn’t a strength on the power-hungry S22 Ultra, but this year’s more battery-efficient chipset — an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in all models, US and global — should help in that department, too. But there’s a couple of subtle changes you can’t see from the surface. In fact, the starting MSRP of $1,199.99 now comes with 256GB of storage — double last year’s base model.

The S23 Ultra has the biggest battery (5,000mAh capacity compared to the S23’s 3,900mAh) but that’s not too surprising as it needs extra juice to handle the large display and offer the enhanced performance and speed that’s expected of the most expensive flagship. Pre-orders are open now, via the Samsung store and network providers and UK retailers including Sky Mobile, Currys, EE, and Amazon. The S23 phones aren’t the only new Samsung devices being released this month, with new Galaxy Book 3 laptop models also now available for pre-order right now. The S23 and S23+ updates are fairly minimal – each coming with a 50 MP camera sensor – but we always appreciate the inclusion of a better selfie camera and larger battery capacity, plus the inclusion of the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip means that the performance should remain speedy when you’re opening apps or gaming. It isn’t a big overhaul from last year, but you’re getting a speedy new processor, better cameras and a refined design. The launch of Samsung's flagship S23 smartphone lineup is expected to fit well with the "premiumisation" trend seen across the global smartphone markets ...
"Samsung Finance has given Samsung a competitive edge and will further add more users to the segment. Even if Samsung chooses to reduce overall shipments in 2023, the premium shipments are likely to be less affected compared to low and mid-range smartphones. Samsung has a good tie-up with operators, retailers and e-commerce players alike and so consumers will get further motivation to buy this series," he said.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 is another great entry-level flagship from Samsung, but is it worth getting over Google's Pixel 7?
The extra compact design makes it more pocketable and easier to use with one hand, and the display is brighter with a higher refresh rate. The battery on the Galaxy S23 is considerably smaller, at 3,900mAh compared to the 4,335mAh of the Pixel 7, but the efficiency improvements of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 may end up yielding better battery life. It has different apps for things like phone and messages, plus it includes a lot of apps from the Samsung ecosystem on top of the Google apps. The Samsung Galaxy S23 has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, while the Another win for the Samsung Galaxy S23 has to do with the display. With the Google Pixel 7 starting at a whopping $200 less than the Galaxy S23, it's hard not to be tempted, especially considering it has a fantastic camera that often beats Samsung's, along with other smart features enabled by the Google Tensor G2 processor. The camera setup on the Samsung Galaxy S23 is essentially the same as it was on its predecessor. Starting off with the design, the biggest win for Samsung here is that the Galaxy S23 is tiny compared to most modern smartphones. It's also worth mentioning that the Samsung Galaxy S23 is using the latest generation of Corning Gorilla Glass, called Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The Samsung Galaxy S23 was introduced during the Galaxy Unpacked event, and it's now available to preorder from Samsung at various U.S. But when you include the Samsung.com exclusives — Sky Blue, Graphite, Lime, and Red — the Galaxy S23 just has many more options. You can buy it straight from Google and most major carriers in the U.S., as well as through retailers like Best Buy and Amazon.
