AFC Championship Game: Cincinnati Bengals v Kansas City Chiefs ... (The Guardian)

Live updates: Who will come out on top in the latest battle between Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow? Join David Lengel for the latest action.

What the Chiefs need to do to win: Mahomes needs to be at least 80% of his best. What the Bengals need to do to win: The offensive line has to prove that their remarkable performance against the Bills wasn’t a fluke. If Mahomes were healthy, it would be difficult to pick against the Chiefs at home despite the fact that he is 1-3 against Burrow’s Cincinnati in his career, including that memorable collapse during last year’s AFC Championship Game. Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals, who upset the Chiefs in last year’s AFC title game, had to take the scenic route after going a mere 12-4 in the regular season. The Bengals are going to start strongly, get a proper stomp on through the first three quarters, but the Chiefs have strength in depth, and most of all, resolve. Story of the season: The Kansas City Chiefs went 14-3 in the regular season, thus earning the all-important bye week in the AFC. I like the Bengals in something of a cake walk, 31-21, with Mahomes suffering through a tough outing on one leg. That’s the QB situation: we’ll take a look at some of the other fun factors leading up to kickoff, but for now, settle in, drink your drink, and if you like, drop me a line. That is the longest streak to begin a career in the Super Bowl era.” Hi folks and welcome to our coverage of the American Football Conference Championship game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs. That is absolutely a 9.5 out of 10, the highest I’ve given in a very, VERY long time. Mahomes hits Kelce, who laterals it to Jerick Mckinnon who drops the ball on the 20 and falls on it!

'Burrowhead my a**!': NFL star's brutal jab as 'dumb' act spoils Super Bowl dream.

Neither side was properly able to gain a foothold late in the contest until the very end, when a mad dash from Chiefs WR Skyy Moore off of a Bengals punt got the home side into prime field position. It would take some magic from Mahomes and top target Travis Kelce to bring up the first touchdown of the night, seeing the Chiefs take a 13-3 lead. That scoreline soon became 13-13 early in the second half, as Bengals WR Tee Higgins leapt high to haul in a pass from Burrow to score the team's first touchdown of the evening. With that touchdown wiped off the board and Kansas City picking up another penalty, the Chiefs would yet again turn to Butker to add a field goal and make it 6-0. Having forced the Bengals to punt it away on their opening drive, the Chiefs then quickly moved the ball down the field after a pair of 16-yard gains from Travis Kelce and Isiah Pacheco. The Kansas City Chiefs are through to the Super Bowl as a last-second field goal from kicker Harrison Butker secured a 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game.

How Chiefs' new, unfamiliar faces fueled a Super Bowl trip (ESPN)

It wasn't just Mahomes and Kelce. A huge group of new Kansas City faces came up clutch in the tense environment of an AFC Championship Game.

[Chris Jones](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3044859/chris-jones) and Andy Reid -- the mainstays who have been the standouts in an incredible run of AFC dominance. [Carlos Dunlap](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/13274/carlos-dunlap), signed early in training camp to help bolster the pass rush, didn't get one of the five sacks, but he hit Burrow twice and was a key part of the pressure package. [Marcus Kemp](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3046399/marcus-kemp), a fifth-year practice squad receiver who had four catches in his career and none this season but was forced into action after injuries to Toney, Hardman and [JuJu Smith-Schuster](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3120348/juju-smith-schuster), caught a 13-yard pass for a first down at one point in the fourth quarter. And so somehow, in a year when the Bills and the Bengals took turns as favorites in a conference Mahomes and Reid have owned for half a decade, the Chiefs have emerged scarier than ever. "The free agents, the guys we got in the draft, obviously they've helped us a lot and we're going to need them even more in the Super Bowl, but I can't thank them enough for choosing Kansas City," Kelce said. We don't tend to think of the Chiefs like this. Pacheco was third or fourth on the running back depth chart coming out of camp but was the starter by the second half of the season and is a key reason Kansas City is still playing. Watson was inactive for the game, and McDuffie is one of the team's starting corners, so when Toney and Hardman went out of Sunday's game with injuries, Moore's antennae went up. Moore had to backpedal to field the punt at his own 18-yard line. We roll our eyes when a team like the Chiefs says "nobody thought we could win," and while that wasn't technically true for this game, enough people picked the Bengals that the Chiefs had the right to say it. "Here's something I'm doing for the first time, and I keep messing up, and they're out there like, 'We believe in you. But even after the Chiefs stopped letting Moore return punts in games, they kept working with him on it in practice.

The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the ... (Valley Public Radio)

Super Bowl 57 is set with the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs taking on the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. The big game will be played in Glendale, ...

A rookie drafted dead last in the NFL draft - he got the starting job because of injuries to the top two San Francisco quarterbacks. So a quick look forward to Super Bowl LVII in Arizona. In the first quarter, San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy got hit by an Eagles defender, injured his throwing arm. And then he led the 49ers on a 12-game win streak heading into yesterday's game. Mahomes has been in the league since 2017, and he has become, by consensus, the NFL's best quarterback. He played in the Super Bowl last season. He got a 15-yard penalty for it. The Chiefs beat Cincinnati 23-20 on a last-second field goal, while the Eagles dominated the San Francisco 49ers 31-7. All right, so let's start with the close game for the AFC championship. Let me first say to Philly fans, A, so they don't get too annoyed, the Eagles were dominant on offense and defense, and they are an absolutely worthy Super Bowl contestant. Did their game match the hype? Super Bowl LVII is set, as the Philadelphia Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs in a couple of weeks.

'Dumb' penalty decides Super Bowl chance (Wide World of Sports)

A last-second brain fade from Joseph Ossai gifted the Chiefs a 45-yard field goal to snatch victory and a...

Burrow gave the Chiefs a chance when his deep throw to Higgins on third down was batted into the air and picked by rookie cornerback Josh Williams. The Chiefs are headed to their third Super Bowl in four seasons. The Chiefs finally reached the end zone late in the second quarter, moving briskly downfield behind a couple of nice grabs by Valdes-Scantling. Six plays later — including an audacious fourth-down throw from Burrow to Ja’Marr Chase — Samaje Perine ran into the end zone to tie it at 20. The Chiefs got a crucial sack from Chris Jones to force a punt with 39 seconds left, and shaky return man Skyy Moore broke free for 29 yards on the return. Mahomes, whose ankle had been the subject of speculation all week, looked just fine leading Kansas City to a field goal on its opening possession. The defence got another stop for us and I knew I was going to get there somehow. Mahomes, who hurt his ankle against Jacksonville in the divisional round, threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns, even though he was missing three of his wide receivers to injuries by the end. Tee Higgins had six catches for 83 yards and the score. Mahomes, suddenly down three wide receivers to injuries and beginning to limp, gamely pressed on. “I’ve watched them all year long, great quarterback, great entire team,” Mahomes said of the Eagles. "The defence gave us a couple of chances to get in field goal range, but we didn’t get there.
