Apart from the advantage of having recorded two come-from-behind wins, the Germans have been able to succeed in different playing situations. Our ball possession game against Australia was unbelievable and we would want to continue that. "We have a lot of respect for the German side who came out of jail twice in this tournament and won. "We need to continue to trust ourselves in our ability and in our mental toughness. Germany have won 13 times while seven matches were drawn. We hope to save our best for the last. Florent Van Aubel, Cedric Charlier and Sebastien Dockier have scored just two goals each. Germany, on the other hand, will be looking to clinch their first title after 2006 and join the club of other three countries to have won the World Cup thrice or more. Hockey World Cup 2023: Argentina, India finish joint ninth with big ... (Khel Now)

India and Argentina finished joint ninth with wins in their final Hockey World Cup 2023 matches against Wales and South Africa respectively.

Akashdeep Singh added a fourth in the final quarter as he deflected a cross by Jarmanpreet at the front post that snuck through the legs of Jones. India added a second goal towards the end of the first quarter as Harmanpreet Singh dispatched a powerful drag flick between the keeper and the post defender off a penalty corner won by Mandeep Singh. The stroke was dispatched by Mustapha Cassiem, bringing the final score to 2-5 in favour of the hosts. Maico Casella, who has been Argentina’s best player in the World Cup added a fifth goal for the Leones and Ferreiro scored his second to make it six in the final quarter. The third quarter produced much more balance as South Africa dominated possession and territory but India looked like a constant threat on the counter. Argentina were stifled for the first quarter as Wales dominated possession in the Argentine half, but they couldn’t find the goal to cap off a great quarter. Argentina set the tone early in the third quarter with Agustin Bugallo scoring an absolute ripper on the reverse from the top of the circle. The third quarter followed a similar pattern to the first as Chile pressed high in search of a goal while France defended deep and looked for counter attacking opportunities. Chile scored one of their own as a long cross from the left found Andres Pizzaro completely unmarked in the back post and he tapped the ball into an empty goal. Victor Charlet was awarded player of the match and said: “It’s always good to finish with a win. France opened the scoring on one such counter through Eliot Curty and added two more in quick succession through Victor Charlet to stun Chile. Two minutes later Malaysia were back in the lead as Faiz Jali found Irfan all alone in the circle on the left and his flat snuck under the Japanese keeper.
