The Hottest 100 of 2002 is a strong list of songs. There are a few huge omissions, though.
[it was even the state song of Oklahoma](https://web.archive.org/web/20130416045744/https:/news.yahoo.com/flaming-lips-tune-pulled-oklahomas-rock-song-000858366.html) for a few years. Even the diehards who are more interested in Coyne and co.'s more psychedelic fare would have to admit that this is a pretty incredible piece of music. It never happened, but the album remains great. Dre's production remains neck-slappingly good, while Busta's power and precision on the mic is awe-inspiring. Drifting back to 'Your Way' from Blasko's 2002 Prelusive EP makes us wonder if she couldn't have snuck in a little earlier though. 'Take It Off' came from their fifth album and major label debut Spend The Night. Hottest 100 of 2002 โ the full list! The Hottest 100 of 2002 was a strong set of songs, many of which remain classics to this day. They'd released one of the anthems of the 90s a decade earlier, and in 2002 The Breeders offered another earworm that proved the Deal sisters still had so much more to offer (and thankfully that didn't change). Meanwhile, things changed in 2017 when Kendrick Lamar became the first musician of colour to top the poll, while Thelma Plum became the highest-placing Indigenous artist (and first Indigenous female) when Better In Blak reached #9 in 2019. In the 1993 poll, only 17 of the songs were by artists or bands fronted by a non-male vocalist. In fact, the very makeup of the countdown has changed, too. Designed to shine a light on up-and-coming Aussie acts, Grinspoon were the very first band to be โunearthedโ by the station, and they would make their debut into the countdown in 1995 with Sickfest. At the time, the US would dominate the poll with 45 tracks, while the UK would be in close third with 19. That number would repeat in 2007, and by 2020, Aussie acts would make up 65% of the poll.
