After taking a closer look prior to the start of the third, the doctor waved off the fight. But with Moreno closing out the frame on top, it was a bad look for the Brazilian champ. Trailing that punch, which appeared to hurt Figueiredo, was a scrape to the eye that brought immediate protest from the champ. At round’s end, Moreno complained to the officials that Figueiredo had landed an illegal kick while they were on the mat. They went to the ground before the buzzer, with Figueiredo locking up a heel hook, but Moreno escaped the round. Figueiredo did trail a combo with a heavy leg kick approaching the final minute of the round.

At least Moreno had the benefit of fighting Kai Kara-France between his third fight with Figueiredo and the latest iteration of the matchup. The most intriguing name in that collection right now would be Alexandre Pantoja. The win gave Moreno the advantage in their series, which was tied at 1-1-1 after three epic fights. My plan is to make a statement in this one. The victory came in a somewhat anti-climactic finish. The two fighters picked up right where they left off with several interesting grappling exchanges early on.

He was better in that moment AND overall. He's complaining he got poked in the eye, but it was a punch. Doesn't look like an eye poke or scrape to me. Heavy left for Moreno, Figgy with a body shot and eats a couple hooks. 1-2 from Moreno. Left hook from Moreno. Low kick from Moreno. However, replays showed that Figueiredo was poked in his left eye, proving the damage done to his right eye was due to Moreno's sharp left hand. A bit of controversy sparked as Moreno accidentally poked Figueiredo's eye following the thunderous shot.
