Tennis | Australian Open 2023 | Dominic Thiem looks to relive ... (Britwatch Sports)

Dominic Thiem looks to rediscover the form that took him to a Grand Slam title as he plays Andrey Rublev on day two of the Australian Open.

In the end this match will be decided on who can control their tennis better in the long run and Kokkinakis seems more reliable on current form to do that. [Thanasi Kokkinakis](https://www.tennisabstract.com/cgi-bin/player.cgi?p=ThanasiKokkinakis) loves playing in Australia and that has continued this season with the Australian defeating [Andrey Rublev ](https://www.tennisabstract.com/cgi-bin/player.cgi?p=AndreyRublev)in Adelaide last week. After winning the doubles title with [Nick Kyrgios ](https://www.tennisabstract.com/cgi-bin/player.cgi?p=NickKyrgios)last year, Kokkinakis has continued to believe in his game and most importantly has remained healthy over the last year. The Italian is approaching the final years of his career with Fognini appearing more on the doubles court than the singles court. Whatever happens drama and entertainment is guaranteed in what could be a bizarre contest. This is a must-see match and a must win match for Muguruza but the 26th seed should be too strong and too consistent for an erratic Spaniard. [Fabio Fognini ](https://www.tennisabstract.com/cgi-bin/player.cgi?p=FabioFognini)who continues to bring his highly emotional tennis to the tour. [Garbine Muguruza ](http://www.tennisabstract.com/cgi-bin/wplayer.cgi?p=GarbineMuguruza)who is looking to rediscover her Grand Slam winning form. Now on the verge of the top 100, Thiem will look to rediscover his form at the Grand Slams and look to prove why on his day he can beat just about anyone. Now Mertens will look to show a little more belief and make a deep Grand Slam run in Melbourne. One thing Thiem will definitely have to do in this match is start well otherwise he could be in trouble. Rublev’s inconsistent form at the Nitto ATP Finals was a clear example as to where the problem lies for the Russian at the Grand Slams.

“Then I went out, and the physio said that the ribs are fine – it’s just a little inflammation or a little strain. “The ultimate goal [is to get back to my best], and I hope that I can do it during this season. “In the beginning, it was way tougher than I expected. “It happened at one serve in the second set. “As I said, this tournament doesn’t change anything because I just had a really tough opponent. Now I know that it’s a possibility,” he said. “I didn’t think of that.” The sun was in a tough position to serve, so I completely changed the toss, and something happened [with] the abs or at the ribs,” he said. “It’s just good to kind of get through this one and now I kind of play myself in the tournament, and “I think it adds pressure to my match today, knowing I went out in the first round of the last grand slam. “Obviously, I noticed the people pulling out of the tournament, but I didn’t know it was a thing like, ‘I’m going to lose my first round because I’m in the Netflix show,’” Fritz said. The leading American trailed early, and revealed later he was nervous and took time to settle, in part due to the pressure and expectation of being a top-eight seed at a grand slam for the first time.
