At least 32 killed as Yeti Airlines flight crashes in Nepal's Pokhara (CNN)

At least 32 people were killed on Sunday when an aircraft crashed near central Nepal's Pokhara, an official said.

That was the country’s 19th plane crash in 10 years and its 10th fatal one during the same period, according to the [Aviation Safety Network](http://www.aviation-safety.net/database/dblist.php?Country=9N) database. The rest were individual citizens of Australia, Argentina, France and Ireland. The country’s civil aviation authority reported that 53 of the passengers and all four crew members were Nepali.

An ATR 72-500 operated by Nepali carrier Yeti Airlines crashed near Pokhara town on the morning of 15 January.

Footage on social media, purportedly of the crashed aircraft on final approach, shows its tail dip slightly before it banks sharply left. Yeti Airlines, through a statement issued on social media, says the aircraft last made contact with Pokhara air traffic control at about 10:50 local time. The turboprop (9N-ANC, MSN754) was operating flight YT691 from capital Kathmandu to Pokhara.

Yeti Airlines has a fleet of six ATR72-500 planes, according to its website. It added that the last signal from the transponder was received at an altitude of 2875 feet above mean sea level. It also owns Tara Air, and the two together offer the “widest network” in Nepal, the company says. Hundreds of rescue workers scoured the hillside where the flight carrying 72 people from the capital Kathmandu went down on Sunday. One Australian is believed to have been on board. Local TV footage earlier showed rescue workers scrambling around broken sections of the aircraft.
