Residents are being told to leave or take shelter as the dangerous blaze moves towards the town.

The fire is burning out-of-control towards the Montacute Quarry and Montacute Rd, Montacute and conditions are continually changing. Fifteen tankers and eight aircraft are trying to contain the blaze, which is burning in a southeasterly direction towards the town. The warning level has since been downgraded to a watch and act, but firefighters are still urging residents to take action now.

Bushfire downgraded to 'watch and act' on Saturday afternoon as nine firebombers and spotter aircraft tried to contain the spread.

The warning for people in Montacute said: “Conditions are dangerous and firefighters are now unable to prevent the fire spreading. According to the 2021 census, Montacute has 332 residents. Two local roads were closed. On Friday, the CFS issued a total fire ban for Saturday for several areas in South Australia, including the Mount Lofty Ranges, saying the weather conditions meant the risk of fire was extreme. Police and the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service were also on the scene. At 1.38pm on Saturday, the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS) issued a request for people in Montacute and the surrounding area near Athelstone in the Mount Lofty Ranges to leave the area.
