This scrub fire is burning in both a Southerly and Easterly direction towards the Montacute Quarry and Gorge Road, Castambul. The CFS, supported by SAPOL and SAMFS is responding to a scrub fire at Gorge Road, Montacute. The Montacute fire is uncontrolled. - CFS on - On local Do not leave or enter this area in a vehicle or on foot. - If you have sprinklers, turn them on to wet the area. - CFS website It is too late to leave as the roads will not be safe. - If you become stuck in your car, park away from bushes, cover yourself, get onto the floor as the windows may break from the intense heat. Bushfire downgraded to 'watch and act' on Saturday afternoon as nine firebombers and spotter aircraft tried to contain the spread.

The warning for people in Montacute said: โ€œConditions are dangerous and firefighters are now unable to prevent the fire spreading. According to the 2021 census, Montacute has 332 residents. Two local roads were closed. On Friday, the CFS issued a total fire ban for Saturday for several areas in South Australia, including the Mount Lofty Ranges, saying the weather conditions meant the risk of fire was extreme. Police and the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service were also on the scene. At 1.38pm on Saturday, the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS) issued a request for people in Montacute and the surrounding area near Athelstone in the Mount Lofty Ranges to leave the area.
