Renegades cop injury carnage as skipper stretchered off after Finch milestone as Scorchers cruise.

Will Sutherland hit a six in his 14 and Akeal Hosein two maximums in his 15 as they carried the Renegades to 6-155 in a strong finish to their innings. Jono Wells hit two fours and a six on his way to 22, before he was bowled by Peter Hatzoglou. Inglis hit five fours and a six on his way to 47, before he was trapped lbw by Sutherland while attempting to hit the winning run. Finch finished with six fours and two sixes in his innings of 65, before he was bowled becoming Tye’s third of the afternoon. Bancroft smashed four fours and a six on his way to 46, before he was run out by Will Sutherland after a direct hit going for two. Faf du Plessis blasted four fours on his way to 39 from 29 balls before he was caught behind by Peter Handscomb to give Richardson his second and put him on a hat-trick.

It was Guptill’s turn in the next over as Jhye Richardson (1-35) picked up from where he left off against the Stars. The Perth Scorchers have put the breaks on the Melbourne Renegades’ top order to restrict the hosts to 6-155 despite Aaron Finch opening the runs tap.

The Perth Scorchers earned a great victory and will continue to hold the top spot in the points table The spinners, Akeal Hosein and Mujeeb, kept things tight but failed to take wickets, which ultimately proved to be the difference in the game. The Melbourne Renegades bowlers struggled to make the most of the favourable pitch and bowling conditions, performing below par for much of the innings.

Nic Maddinson injury: The captain of Melbourne Renegades was afflicted by a knee injury at the Docklands Stadium today.

Playing only his first ball, Maddinson looked to pull a Jason Behrendorff (1/17) delivery only to inside-edge the ball to visiting wicket-keeper Josh Inglis on the sixth delivery of the match. Former captain Aaron Finch led Renegades in Maddinson’s absence for the remainder of the match. Melbourne Renegades captain Nic Maddinson couldn’t have started the year 2023 on a worse note.
