Tom Brady's Super Bowl 2022 dreams in Tampa Bay seem dead (NBCNews.com)

The NFL superstar and current Tamba Bay quarterback has always, famously, gotten whatever he wanted. But in 2022, a funny thing happened.

Who reportedly regrets [not spending more time at home as he’d promised](https://pagesix.com/2022/06/15/tom-brady-trying-to-spend-more-time-with-family-during-off-season/), regrets un-retiring, regrets coming back to this team, regrets continuing to get bone-crushed every game by men 100 pounds heavier than him and half his age, regrets assuming — like the rest of the world — that he would find a way to win, again. [the favorable referee treatment](https://www.tampabay.com/sports/bucs/2022/10/09/yeah-o-line-is-important-referees-are-tom-bradys-best-protection/), the apparent inability to age — and now he was about to get even more. This isn’t a reason to hate him. [Tom Brady ](https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/tom-brady-donald-trump-retiring-nfl-great-s-maga-myth-ncna1288381)was going to get away with it. And the worst part about this is that Brady is still probably the best player on his team. This is the exact opposite of what we thought would happen. (Reportedly.)](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/tom-brady-gisele-bundchen-divorce-timeline/puozj1oo0qwu9drovsntd2we) Brady looks slower and, in perhaps an indicator of his mood, grouchier and more prone to tantrums than we’ve ever seen him. Even if you’re a huge Brady fan — and I’ll confess to being Not content to transform the Bucs into a championship team, he was going to make them his second dynasty. [the Tampa Bay Bucs quarterback ](https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/tom-brady-leaving-new-england-patriots-allowing-us-bask-his-ncna1162246)got to live the dream in February: He got to read his own obituaries. ( [I wrote a few myself](https://www.gq.com/story/tom-brady-retirement).) But just a few weeks later [he changed his mind](https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/how-tom-brady-lebron-james-serena-williams-more-older-athletes-ncna1292347), much to the chagrin of many, [including his wife.

Tom Brady is the perfect example of why athletes shouldn't talk ... (The Globe and Mail)

With that in mind, the athlete of 2022 is Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady. He is yesterday's perfect man, but still here today and suffering mightily ...

In 2022, Brady was us and we were all Brady, and not in a good way. The popular image is that it worked the other way around. It was the financially incentivized insistence that athletes always be talking that got us here. It was a time when your iPhone and the price of gas were smaller, but all the other set dressing was as you know it. Now they’re trying to Zapruder film back through his public life to figure out where it went wrong, so they can avoid making whatever mistake it was that he made. To a place where the greatest football player in history is out there moaning about how he’s going to spend Christmas Eve alone on the concierge floor of a J.W. Back when everything was the same as it is now, but no one yelled “CLIMATE CHANGE!” as you pulled the cork on a bottle of non-organic wine. But the sports expanded. One can’t know another man’s secret pain, but from the outside, and speaking only superficially, it looked pretty stress-free. Robbed of his only passion, Brady found a new one – talking about his feelings in public. “It’ll be a new experience that I’ve never had before that I’m going to learn how to deal with.” But there’s a point at which you can know too much.

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Marco Wilson woke up on Christmas morning with one career interception and ended the day with three.

That gave them a 16-6 lead. He was holding his hand/wrist area. Wilson was lined up against wide receiver Mike Evans, who got a step on the young CB on a post. Watt followed up a three-sack performance last week by being a disruptive force against the run game. He produced two tackles for loss and a pair of quarterback hits. His first was caught at the Arizona 2-yard line on a deep ball Brady released while getting hit by rookie Cameron Thomas.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finally found the end zone Sunday night against the Arizona Cardinals.

A 43-yard catch-and-run by Leonard Fournette on the first play of the drive sparked Tampa Bay’s first possession of the night that ended with a touchdown. It’s been a rough night for the Bucs offense, but there’s still plenty of time for them to save this game, if they can keep moving the ball like they just did on that drive. Tom Brady tantrum timeline: 4 times Buccaneers QB has flipped out ... (Sporting News AU)

Tom Brady has had a trying season, and it's reflected in his sideline demeanor.

Tablets have been shuddering in fear of Brady's wrath since far before 2022, and Brady was admonished for it last season as well. Pittsburgh gave up just six points in the first half, and Brady was displeased with his line. But now, it’s kind of for the world to see. However, if the Bucs' struggles continue down the stretch this year, we may well see another freak-out before year's end. He was seen yelling at his teammates and tossing a tablet in frustration. His frustration has bubbled over numerous times, and early in the season his disdain toward tablets led to the league issuing a memo about throwing them. All of that won't matter if they ultimately win the NFC South and make the playoffs, but between injuries and questionable coaching decisions, it's been a long season to this point in west Florida. Brady's history against the Saints has not been great since he joined the Buccaneers. There's an undercurrent of tension in Tom Brady's return season to the Buccaneers. He even signed a ball for 49ers quarterback Dre Greenlaw. “They used to kind of keep from showing you in those moments. Brady has mostly taken to yelling at teammates, for better or worse.

RECAP: Bucs Defense Bails Out Tom Brady and Offense in Win ... (Sports Illustrated)

How everything went down Christmas night between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Arizona Cardinals.

And while it wasn't pretty, and not a win anyone will want to put on their highlight reel outside of Succop, the Bucs won and have the chance to clinch the NFC South next weekend. Because of wins by the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints on Christmas Eve, the Buccaneers had to win Sunday night to maintain their spot at the top of the NFC South. In overtime, the Bucs defense got the Cardinals off the field and Brady orchestrated a nine play drive to set up Succop's game-winning 40 yard kick. Still, the Buccaneers stayed committed to the running game in the second half, and Fournette finished with But no heroics were to be had in regulation as Brady's offense went three and out for the third time in the second half, and the Cardinals failed to get into scoring range as the clock ran down. That possession ended with another Succop field goal, and it left the game tied at 16 with just over two minutes left to play.

It was not a good night for Brady and the Bucs offense for much of the game. Brady saved his best for last, completing all six of his passes for 69 yards, including a 23-yarder to Russell Gage and a shot for 16 to Evans. The 7-8 Bucs also entered Sunday ranked 27th in the NFL in scoring. Brady has just 21 touchdowns in 15 games this year after registering an NFL-high 43 scores in 17 matchups last season. Arizona got a good drive going in response, but starting quarterback Trace McSorley, who was next in line after starter Kyler Murray and backup Colt McCoy suffered injuries, fumbled the ball on 3rd-and-1 from the Tampa 42. They've managed to sit atop the NFC South for much of the year because of a down season for the division and a top-10 defense. 5, the Bucs trailed the New Orleans Saints 16-3 for much of the fourth quarter before Brady threw touchdowns to Otton and Rachaad White for the 17-16 victory. Arizona started with the ball in overtime but punted after gaining just 11 yards. This has not been a good season for Brady and the Bucs offense. Brady tossed two interceptions and had trouble connecting with top target Mike Evans. The Bucs took over and marched down the field for a Ryan Succop 42-yard field goal to tie the game at 16. Following the Conner touchdown, the Bucs immediately responded with a score of their own after Brady found running back Rachaad White from three yards out.
