The likely reason the wild animal attacked the boy has also been revealed.

“It looks like the dingo has taken advantage at that stage and pounced on the child in the proximity of the parents,” said K’Gari’s acting ranger-in-charge Linda Behrendorff. Behrendorff said it was “quite harrowing” that the dingo did not stop attacking the boy until his father, who was within metres of his son, got close to the animal having charged at it. The wild animal is believed to have been “loitering” with a pack but attacked on its own.
