Strikers' new hero central to bonkers BBL records as Thunder captain explains horror show.

“I love trying to express myself and bowl quick. Thornton, who delivered the only maiden of the tournament to date, was particularly eye-catching, bowling with terrific pace and accuracy on a tricky length during his spell. ‘Lynny’ was actually my first wicket and that was in January this year so it‘s been a crazy 12 months,” he said. Chris Green defended Thornton’s next ball – and the home crowd roared approval. “I don’t want to dive into it. “I was just running around playing club cricket in St Kilda (last season). Then Green was gone, off Agar, caught behind. Then 8-10. Danger man Alex Hales was soon gone, edging Wes Agar. Nine of 11 batsmen out caught behind … we nicked off too many times. There were five ducks.

Thunder-struck: BBL insanity as record-shattering Strikers skittle ... (The Roar)

BBL12 is just three days old and already has seen no shortage of drama - and an extraordinary night in Sydney has seen the…

Captain Jason Sangha began the procession for a second-ball duck to gift Thornton his second wicket for the over. Sams’ drag-on, an Agar ball ricocheting off the bottom of his thigh bad and onto leg stump was genuinely unlucky… The rout, at last, was complete. We got a lot of nick-offs – Harry took five catches and Shorty, that was one of the best catches I’ve ever seen at first slip. A Victorian effort in the 1903/04 Sheffield Shield is its only peer. Strikers’ star leg-spinner Rashid Khan wasn’t required to bowl a single over, and nor was captain Peter Siddle. The pace of Thornton and Agar was too much for the rest of the Thunder batting order, with a string of footwork-free wafts at the ball offering catching practice to Nielsen and the slips cordon. And we just thought if we hung in there long enough we’d create chances. It summed up the Thunder’s night. I don’t think I’m getting better than that!” I’m really happy for Wes. In the next over, Rilee Rossouw – who fell to a catch of the tournament contender to the Melbourne Stars’ Brody Couch in the BBL opener on Tuesday night – fell to a second as an edge was incredible snaffled by Short at slip in his outstretched right hand.
