Avatar 3's Astonishingly Long First Cut Runtime Reportedly Revealed (The Direct)

Avatar director James Cameron reportedly handed in an eye-popping nine-hour first cut of the franchise's third film.

Avatar 3 has actually largely been shot already, with filming for the threequel happening simultaneously with work on The Way of Water. Avatar 3 is set to hit theaters on December 20, 2024. But that will not be all from Cameron's blockbuster sci-fi odyssey, as he already has massive plans to continue the franchise

James Cameron's First Cut of 'Avatar 3' Is Reportedly 9 Hours Long (We Got This Covered)

Cameron has never been a fan of a short and sweet movie, with all but one of his theatrical releases being under two hours long. As it stands, Cameron's ...

Not only is his first cut long, but he’s also apparently insisting on doing all the special effects so he has everything ready to make shorter cuts. It could all be much, much worse if he gets his way on Avatar 3 with an insider report from Jeff Sneider alleging his first cut of the film presented to the studio is sitting at nine hours long. As it stands, Cameron’s shortest film is the famously bad Piranha II: The Spawning at a leisurely 94 minutes.

James Cameron's 'Avatar 3' Reportedly 9 Hours Long, Wants VFX ... (Fandomwire)

As per sources, James Cameron allegedly handed in a 9-hour-long cut of Avatar 3, which he apparently wants the VFX team to work on.

And he has reportedly already “handed in” the cut for Avatar 3 which is said to be 9 hours long. Although sources state that Avatar 3‘s unedited version is 9 hours long, the director himself is yet to confirm any of these claims so there’s no way of saying whether or not this is accurate. And with the sequel out in cinemas, the director is already working vigorously towards the third installment in the franchise, which is scheduled to hit theatres at the end of 2024. But of course, it would be unlike Cameron to do something so acutely conventional. According to reports, James Cameron apparently submitted a cut for Avatar 3 just last week, one which is approximately 9 hours long. The rumor further claims that the Avatar filmmaker is adamant about having the entire 9-hour-long cut edited with VFX before he sits to sort it all out.
