High on Life is a fun first-person shooter game with a memorable and hilarious story as well as a couple of serious bugs that need addressing.
While High on Life can't keep the momentum of its first half for the entire game, the second half still has plenty of hilarious moments, unexpected plot twists, and funny observations about game design. Those admittedly serious technical concerns aside, High on Life is otherwise a consistently entertaining game from start to finish. The second half of the game still has plenty of exciting shootouts to keep the adrenaline high, but it also has a lot of slower moments that hurt the pacing. However, potential players should be aware of a couple of potentially game-breaking bugs that threaten to ruin their time with High on Life. High on Life players will take their knife and talking guns on a grand, unpredictable sci-fi adventure that takes place across a handful of visually distinct and interesting planets. Very early on in the game, High on Life players collect a bloodthirsty, psychopathic knife that is obsessed with stabbing people. Those that fall in the latter category can at least tone down how often the guns talk, though someone that doesn't like Roiland's sense of humor will likely not enjoy High on Life quite as much regardless. [High on Life](https://gamerant.com/high-on-life-delay-partly-due-god-of-war-call-of-duty/) is a blast for the most part, but the game starts to lose some steam at around the halfway mark. In High on Life, players take on the role of a bounty hunter who is tasked with killing members of an intergalactic drug syndicate, with each encounter culminating in an exciting and unique boss fight. [High on Life has Metroidvania elements](https://gamerant.com/high-on-life-metroidvania-description/) in that regard. The knife in High on Life is as integral to exploration as the guns. In combat, Kenny's glob is great for crowd control, as players can shoot it into a swarm of enemies to send them all flying into the air at once.
ComingSoon's High on Life review goes into how Squanch Games' absurd first-person shooter is both thrilling and only a little bit grating.
It’s a space full of obscene toilet humor and swearing pistols, but a space it has nonetheless earned. Its brand of comedy might be a bit played, but High on Life still has quite an identity. These rants aren’t as honed as written jokes and Roiland is the most guilty of it here since he plays the main gun, Kenny. But it picks up when it starts slowly introducing new tools like the grappling hook, dash, rocket slide, and jetpack that all give the firefights a welcome sense of momentum where zooming around is the norm. Although it is very much its own thing, High on Life can somewhat be compared to the underrated classic Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath since both are unconventional shooters with living armaments that take place on otherworldly planets. Guns are just a tool for killing in every other shooter, but that’s not how it is in developer Squanch Games’ High on Life.
A miserable cocktail of ideas from other action-platformers and the worst parts of Rick & Morty. Eurogamer's High on Life review.
Aside from a botched attempt to rebottle Rick and Morty as a first-person shooter, High on Life is a covert playable manifesto for games in general as callous, explicit and made up of false choices - incubation vats, in short, for cavalier dickheads. It's also thanks to High on Life that I've seen the inside of a (Space) Applebees, where you'll click through a confession scene while ordering dip. It's thanks to High on Life that I know of Denise Richards hamfest Tammy and the T-Rex, for what that's worth. But with that pace comes terminally-online burnout and a performance of despair that borders on earnest, yet too often settles into edgelord cynicism and the same tedious, punchdown humour as South Park. If there's anything genuinely amusing about High on Life, it's seeing this desire to mess you around clash with the need to be readable and coherent. I'll admit to a guilty fondness for Rick and Morty, largely because it throws the bloat of even relatively lean sci-fi videogames like The Callisto Protocol into sharp relief. The game addresses this not just by cracking wise about repetitive content a la Borderlands, but by actively engineering delays to wind you up - setpieces like that detective mode sketch, and improv caricatures who witter on obnoxiously. And every time High on Life catches you looking on the bright side, it takes a minute to sabotage itself with a sneering joke. Put a player in charge and you create downtime and reversals - backtracking to areas with a new platforming ability, walking to a waypoint rather than conjuring a portal or jump-cutting. But it's rickety and forgettable on the whole, with enemies who sometimes space out or get stuck in the geometry, forcing you to search for them to initiate the next story phase. Some of the guns are fun to use, too, even if they're ripped wholesale from the arsenals of better games. Tallying its faults is giving High on Life more attention than the game proposes to deserve, so take the hint and click away.
High on Life's hit-and-miss comedy will be polarizing, but its Metroid Prime-inspired formula makes for a memorable sci-fi adventure.
As soon as I got the hang of each gun’s nuances, I reveled in the deep combo potential. High on Life keeps itself relatively short and compact, which is a good decision considering that it’s already stretched thin as is. In a normal arena battle, I usually find myself freezing an enemy, siccing Creature’s kids on it, sucking in another with Gus’ vacuum ability to finish them off with a shotgun blast, launching another patch of enemies in the air with Kenny’s globshot, and firing at one to ricochet shots down on everyone else. A joke tends to lose its power each time you hear it, and there’s a lot of repetition here. Kenny can pepper enemies with handgun shots and use his “globshot” (a word you’re going to get sick of very fast) to launch enemies in the air. For one, there’s a lot of dead air to fill due to its length. That’s especially true because Squanch isn’t out to create a walk in the park. Tim Robinson, on the other hand, gets to fire out some zingers as he plays the role of Creature, a dad who uses his children like bullets and proudly watches them live out their short life span. At one point, I find a collectible card that just has Frasier’s face on it, with flavor text wondering if it’s even legal for the developers to include it. The hero takes on the role of a bounty hunter, tracking down aliens alongside an arsenal of talking guns, called Galatians. [Ricky and Morty](https://www.digitaltrends.com/movies/scariest-rick-and-morty-characters-ranked/) joke riff: It makes a strong impression upfront, sustains that energy for a while, goes on a little too long for its own good, and tapers off before delivering a true punch line. It can be a touch uneven at times, especially in its hit-and-miss humor, but it sticks the landing overall thanks to its unbridled creativity and deceptively deep gunplay.
"Squanch Games has managed to capitalise on the mistakes Trover made, as well as find holes in the FPS genre to create an enjoyable shooter filled with gross ...
High on Life doesn't have a Metacritic score at the time of writing, but its "Anyone who isn’t thrilled at the idea of having Roiland constantly chattering in their ear for a dozen hours straight will likely find the game’s incessant need to force itself on the player annoying. "As-is, High on Life is great weekend Game Pass pickup, and something to go into with caution if you’re a fan of Roiland’s work. "Overall, High on Life is a solid first-person shooter/adventure game. "Let's be real for a second: High on Life isn't reinventing the wheel. "[Some] admittedly serious technical concerns aside, High on Life is otherwise a consistently entertaining game from start to finish.
Here's a collection curated by The Associated Press' entertainment journalists of what's arriving on TV, streaming services and music and video game.
An avid collector of random things including Pez dispensers and midcentury refrigerators, The Smithsonian Channel delves into the artist’s personal and professional life in a new documentary called “The Master of Glass: The Art of Dale Chihuly,” premiered Sunday. — A week before the movie release of the Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” comes an album with 35 tracks that includes a never-before-released a cappella live recording of “Don’t Cry For Me.” Houston recorded it in 1994 while on The Bodyguard World Tour, flying back to perform it at an AIDS benefit concert. — Rising comedian Atsuko Okatsuka debuted her first HBO comedy special called “The Intruder” on Saturday. Earthshot offers 1 million pounds ($1.2 million) in prize money to the winners of five separate categories: nature protection, clean air, ocean revival, waste elimination and climate change. The song and an original re-imagined version of it by producer Sam Feldt is also included on “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” out on Friday. — The masterful Korean director Park Chan-wook is best known for genre extremes like “Oldboy” and “The Handmaiden.” In his prize-winning latest, “Decision to Leave,” he conjures a more subtly beguiling tale, a slinky fusion of police procedural and romance. The conversation was recorded in October on a subway platform-turned-stage, complete with a small live audience. — David Letterman traveled to Kyiv to sit down with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a special one-off episode of Netflix’s “My Next Guest,” debuting Monday. The record is described as “a deliberately intimate portrait of the man behind Ab-Soul going back to his foundation.” It’s a collection that shows off the impressive range he has, including the playful, busy old school hip-hop vibe of “No Report Card” to the slow, airy jazz of “Bucket.” Jusu uses the dark atmosphere of a horror film to convey the dread and displacement of the immigrant experience. — In “The Banshees of Inisherin,” director Martin McDonagh reteams with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, the stars of the playwright’s feature debut, 2008´s “In Bruges.” The results are just as good. In her review, AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr called it “an aching reverie about friendship and fulfillment that is one of the very best films of the year.”
High on Life, the wacky sci-fi shooter from the creators of Rick and Morty, has some familiar voices. We'll tell you who's who!
For more from the biggest stars in TV, listen to the [Radio Times View From My Sofa podcast](https://www.radiotimes.com/audio/podcasts/). Finally, gamers will have heard the voices of Nolan North and Jennifer Hale at least somewhere. He also appeared in Zombieland 2, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and the Roiland project Solar Opposites. A vocal rock star like her only makes us more excited to play High on Life! He's lent his voice to Star Trek: Lower Decks, Solar Opposites, and Middlemost Post - among many others. He also worked on an Australian-themed Rick and Morty parody short called Bushworld Adventures, which seems to have put him on the radar of Roiland and co. He's also the star of the Netflix sketch comedy show I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. He also appeared in the Blockbuster series on Netflix recently. You'll also have heard his voice in many other animated shows – Solar Opposites, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and Fish Hooks. Adding his own voice to his work is an artistic flourish we've come to expect, and we wouldn't want it any other way. And with talking guns and aliens getting high via human smoke, it's on brand. It isn't the Rick and Morty creator's first foray into gaming, but it's his most ambitious interactive project to date.
In this High On Life Blim City Luglox Collectible Guide we'll go over the locations of all the Luglox in Blim City and what you need to get to them.
In the back is a pipe and a Luglox in a trapped room. There is a Luglox on top of this building. Walk around behind that building to find another Luglox (100 Pesos) Stay under the awning and walk counter-clockwise around the building to find this Luglox behind the building. In this High On Life Blim City Luglox Collectible Guide we'll go over the locations of all the Luglox in Blim City and what you need to get to them. Blim City and the Slums are distinct enough areas that we've split this into two guides.
These chests have a variety of loot in them that you can gather and use to buy upgrades, unlock new items, and purchase collectibles. So, once you can open them ...
That covers how to open a Luglox chest in High On Life. To open Luglox chests in High On Life, you need to have obtained Knifey in the game’s first bounty hunt mission, going after 9-Torg. Maybe you want to know how to open them?
At this point you're earned your Knife, have a second weapon at your disposal and have made it to Zephyr Paradise, a lush jungle area in High On Life.
Turn around and jump on the red machine and you'll be able to hop into a hovel in the roof with a Luglox (200 Pesos) Climb across to the top of the Administrative Building and you'll find this Luglox (1x Glob Kidney) From where you land on the bridge look towards the Luglox on the hanging platform, and then look down and to the left to see a lower platform with a Luglox on it. Jump down and head towards the cave with the expanded platforms, crouch and shoot the switch to find the Luglox inside. Use the two expanding ledges and the rock fact to climb up the slime waterfall for another Luglox (200 Pesos) After jumping up and over the green river at the back of the Mine Outskirts area to the right there will be a shipping container with a fan. Walk to the very back of this area following the green river to your left and you'll reach a large cliff. Walk as far as you can to the left of the cliff to shoot the switch and run over to it. From the TBB #3 Luglox head into the Upper Furgle Warren and keep to the right wall. Climb up all of the structures to the right to be led to a Luglox. To your left there's a lower area with a Luglox on it. After fighting the three waves of G3 enemies you'll see a Luglox on a platform to the right.
From the co-creator of Rick and Morty comes a goofy action-adventure game, but how does it stack up?
As much fun as I had, if I had paid that for a game of this quality and length I would be enraged. Absolutely ridiculous, and being told the price as I finished was a sucker punch that really took away from the respect and enjoyment I had for this game. For the first few hours the enemies are all the same, but towards the middle of the game they add in some more variations and a few surprise enemies that can be a real nuisance when paired with some of the stronger foes. Being focused on a fight and finishing it with a laugh after one of the goons said “It's okay, we are the weaker enemies in the game anyways” was a high point for me, and I continued to have those moments throughout my time with High On Life. As for the game itself, negating the price, it’s a fun time that will keep players engaged over the course of the game, especially if they are already fans of the wacky storytelling of Justin Roiland and the comedy he utilizes. So, the gunplay was awesome, the story was goofy, and the game was fun. While the gunplay is awesome and the continuous ramping up of tools to play with keeps you from getting bored, once the progression is done and the story is over there’s nothing to do except go and look for a HUGE amount of crates on each planet. A man with half a leg, a commune that developed from a teleported highway, or off-duty henchmen, around every corner there is another personality that will make you laugh at the ridiculousness of this world and the game. Every weapon that becomes part of your kit is voiced and has its own personality, and part of the fun of combat becomes switching weapons as situations change and hearing them cheer you on or diss the enemies. In the end, the story provides impetus to push the player through the game and is sufficient to keep the energy up until the end. As the bounty-hunting hero, fighting a series of bosses through different worlds has you engaged in some absolutely silly tasks, such as deciding which of two characters you would take home from a bar, arguing with your sister and a couch-crashing alien, and having group therapy for your firearms. Talking guns, family drama, and a galactic issue for humanity all wrapped up with great gunplay and a gorgeous art style took me on a trip through the cosmos on a quest that felt like it ended too soon.

High On Life comes from the mind of Justin Roiland, one of the comedy duo behind award-winning animated show Rick And Morty. In the meantime, High On Life is available now on Xbox Game Pass, or for individual purchase on Xbox Series X and S, and PC. While game development is plenty different from TV production, there is an obvious similarity in the madcap sci-fi aesthetic and tone of High On Life and Rick And Morty. A unique aspect to the game is that all four available guns come with talking faces on the back, which face the player and react with unique lines during the playthrough. High on Life is a sci-fi for Xbox and PC from Squanch Games, led by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, that also stars Tim Robinson and J.B. Smoove.
The guns are the stars of the game. I got Tim Robinson acting like an old-timey detective, for example, because I was playing a detective-lite section of the game. You are accompanied by your sister and your bounty hunter mentor. Each mission is structured pretty much the same, but they manage to hit that Goldilocks sweet spot of not being too short or too long. Combat also slows down when firing special attacks or switching weapons, giving you a breather to survey the arena. All of Robinson’s weirdness from his show I Think You Should Leave is on display here, except he conveys a childlike naivety and optimism, which is ironic because he doesn’t shoot rockets but tiny spawn — see, he instantly grows tiny creatures with legs that, when you fire, seek out enemies to gnaw on. It is hard, very hard, not to say that it feels like walking in any number of the settings in a Rick and Morty episode. The worlds are vibrant in tone, palettes, and character. It’s similar to the various interdimensional cable shows in Rick and Morty. After discovering a sentient gun, voiced by Roiland, you find a way to transport your home to an alien city. If you are of the irritated camp, then High on Life, written by and starring Roiland, should be avoided like an alien plague. These aliens are part of a collective known as the G3: they’ve decided to use humans as a new form of drug to, well, get high off.

Tammy and the T-Rex is something of a cult classic with an absolutely bizarre plot. If you have some time to kill between missions, sit down and give it a watch. The horror comedy film stars Denise Richards as Tammy and Paul Walker as Michael, a pair of high-school sweethearts. While he earns his keep by coordinating bounties and giving players upgrades, he’s a bit of a mooch who spends the game watching TV. The adventure will likely take you around 10 to 15 hours to beat, but you might want to plan to spend an extra 82 minutes in it.
During your bounty hunting journey to kill the various members of the G3 cartel, you'll end up running into a number of large living chests known as Luglox.
Fly left of Lounge Tower Luglox #3, using the wasp to grapple through the window. A Luglox chest is hidden in the area surrounded by a wire fence. A Luglox is on top of the large building directly in front. Use Sweezy to reach the Luglox below. Use the jetpack to reach. Underneath the right edge of Old Town, on a small ledge. Left side of Old Town, across the gorge. This one is just outside the town proper, inside a barrier protected shed. Dreg Town contains 36 Luglox, 8 in Nipulon’s Office, 27 in Old Town, and 16 in the Outskirts. After taking one, you’ll be able to see a Luglox on some rubble. In our High On Life Port Terrine Luglox Collectible Guide, we’ll show you how to find each Luglox spread across each of Port Terrine’s areas. There are 87 Luglox chests in Port Terrine, split across the region’s 4 areas: Dreg Town, Nipulon’s Office, Old Town, and the Outskirts.

- Since you will be able to get Knifey early in the game, you will not be passing by too many chests. - Since it is one of the first missions that you will undertake in the title, you will automatically be able to get your hands on Knifey. You will need to progress a fair bit in the title’s main narrative to be able to unlock the feature that lets you access the loot contained inside these chests. Like, seriously though bro, it's on Game Pass. Hahaha, you said ass.
dude. Dude. You're either going to love it or hate it, really, so it's lucky this one's hitting Game Pass so you can check it out and decide for yourselves. In the end, what you've got with High On Life is a game that some people are going to love, they're going to love it because they love pee and poopie. That was like...have you ever done that thing where you stand in front of a mirror and there's, like, there's another mirror and it's just like infinity mirrors? Have we ever told you about the time we went to the toilet? That's like a fart baby, we've just had a fart baby, it's fully grown. If you live with other humans you're gonna have to turn the sound down almost immediately here because it's non-stop profanity, non-stop violence and non-stop references to sex acts and going to the toilet in your own trousers, it's the kind of game that makes you embarrassed to be seen or heard interacting with it. The central conceit of High On Life, the entire reason Justin Roiland made this game, is because he's had the inspired idea to have your player character wield guns that talk. You need to get laid, bro. [High On Life](games/xbox-series-x/high_on_life) at Pure Xbox over the past few days since we finally got our hands on review code, and we think it's fair to say that the humour in this game is slightly divisive. As stated above, the best way to 100% complete High on Life is by following the achievements. The same applies to unlocking everything on the Bounty Hunter Forums. To obtain this, players must return to previously explored areas - However, players that want to find everything and explore the world in more detail can expect High on Life to last up to 20 to 25 hours. However, thanks to the Metroidvania-like level design, players can discover new secrets and side missions. Fans of Rick and Morty will be pleased to know that its features the voice talent of Justin Roiland.
The latest from Justin Roiland's Squanch Games is as chatty and cursey and gross as an episode of Rick and Morty, but a whole lot longer.
There are aspects that I wish were pushed a little bit further, chances that could have been taken that would really sell the whole meta game vibe—the warp discs, which let you warp in random worlds like Cutie Town and an alien traffic jam, are a great way to spice up what is often a pretty typical level layout. Several times, however, I was forced to reload a previous checkpoint because a bug had launched my character high above the level, or an enemy had glitched through the floor and I couldn’t progress without killing them. The Morty gun stammering over how to pronounce ‘Marlboro’ is a good bit, and I’m (naturally) a fan of all the Italian references and Italian-coded characters jammed into this game. But whereas this formula works (mostly) well in a 22-minute-long Rick and Morty episode, by the time I’m several hours into High On Life, every line of dialogue makes it clear that somehow, I am not high enough. This is how the game was originally designed and marketed, and I will accept it as such. A globby, pink alien (which could describe nearly every character in High On Life, save for the weird growth sticking out of this one’s back) is asking for someone to please fuck it. I return to High On Life to try it out in a different state of mind. When I reach a point where I need to do detective work in an attempt to find my next bounty, or engage in yet another mediator session between my in-game character’s sister and the couch-surfing Gene, the incessantly long dialogue sections make my leg start anxiously jiggling, which is something I haven’t really done since high school math class. In a Metroidvania like High On Life, that means you can use new weapons in old locations to reach areas you couldn’t before. Everything is gloopy and globby and a little bit icky, from the guns you hold in your hand to the bosses you have to take down. High On Life is exactly what you’d expect in terms of plot, narrative, and humor from Squanch Games’ creator Justin Roiland (who also makes Rick and Morty): aliens have come to Earth to smoke human beings like meth and get high off of them, and you (a suburban teen whose visage you choose from a few faces shown in a mirror covered in coke lines) gotta become an alien bounty hunter to kill off the cartel members hell-bent on turning your species into their next designer drug. I’m about four hours into High On Life and I have a migraine.
High on Life is the latest game from Squanch Games, and while it's a great new FPS for fans of the genre to check out, it does suffer from a serious ...
If High on Life players decide to mess around with the jetpack instead of going to their designated landing spots and happen to fall to the ground, the game may respawn them in their bedroom. We randomly loaded the same bugged save file many hours later, and it finally allowed us to spawn back on the roof where we needed to be instead of in the glitched bedroom. If players try to push the button prompt to go back to sleep, it will simply disappear, and they will still be stuck in the room. They are then woken up in the middle of the night and find themselves on the roof of their house, where they're taught how to use the jetpack. When they first visit the local pawn shop to buy the jetpack, it's out of stock, and so they put their money down and wait for it to be delivered later. This article will be kept as vague as possible, but those that want to experience the game completely blind should note that there will be some minor spoilers from here on out.
Once players have transported their suburban home to the strange alien world, they'll soon discover Luglox Chests scattered about. However, if players try and ...
Now that players have Knifey in their left hand, they can use him to stab the chests to open them up. Players eventually need to go back to their house and speak to Gene and their sister. In High on Life, players will need to get through some introductory tutorial sequences before reaching the first open area of the game.

"Those admittedly serious technical concerns aside, High on Life is otherwise a consistently entertaining game from start to finish. Much like the bisected teddybear you find bleeding out in one particular canyon, High on Life just wants to be put out of its misery." "Aside from a botched attempt to rebottle Rick and Morty as a first-person shooter, High on Life is a covert playable manifesto for games in general as callous, explicit and made up of false choices - incubation vats, in short, for cavalier dickheads. "Like Rick and Morty’s Pickle Rick episode, High on Life doesn’t build to a grand punch line.

This Luglox is underneath the building where you acquire Knifey. A Luglox is hidden inside the broken shipping container. Head back to the ramp, then go left into Shanty Town until you reach the large blue face statue. This sentient knife will allow you to open any Luglox with a quick melee attack. In our High On Life Slums Luglox Collectible Guide, we’ll show the locations of each one. And, as with Blim City, there are lots of living chests known as Luglox scattered around the area.
