How two strangers met in Peru on Halloween and fell in love (CNN)

Claudia Flores Iriate and Sean McCallum were strangers who met at a hostel in Lima in 2008. It was Claudia's first day working there and Sean's first ...

Claudia has a book of all her mother's handwritten Peruvian recipes, and she's enjoying teaching them to her kids, who are now eleven and eight and love experimenting in the kitchen. Claudia could have taken a different job, or not worked that night, or not gone to the Halloween party. Over the next several months, Claudia and Sean kept in touch as best they could. She's loved building a life with Sean and their children in Toronto. Sean and Claudia decided to stay in. Again, Sean had written out the words in Spanish, and read them aloud. "I remember sitting at the bar, and it was an out-of-body experience," says Sean. I asked Claudia her name a couple of times, and I could not hear what she said." The next morning, Sean and Claudia sat around the hostel bar, this time drinking fresh juice rather than Jäger. Sean insists Claudia was staring at him too. "I don't even know if I was aware there was going to be a Halloween party that night," says Sean. Claudia was 22, just graduated from college and this was her first job.

Halloween: How Do Airlines And Airports Celebrate The Occasion? (Simple Flying)

Following two years of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, airports and airlines plan to use Halloween 2022 as an excuse to celebrate air travel.

Ticket counters may have the odd skeleton or two hanging around, but if you want to get into the spirit of Halloween before your flight, head to an airport bar. The movies Delta has added are the following: American Airlines says it is "creeping it real" with aviation-themed pumpkin stencils. [Southwest](http://simpleflying.com/tag/southwest-airlines/) offered a "monster sale" on flights to select destinations in the United States. The flights must be purchased up to and including Monday, October 31, and are good for travel until March 31, 2023. Focused around autumn and All Saints' Day on November 1, Halloween is a celebration of all things scary.

What more should we say? As the country began a week of mourning, the death toll climbed to 154. One agent with the National Forensic Service team, in white overalls and a black ribbon of mourning pinned to his chest, operated a Leica 3D scanner, he said, "to capture the scene."
