Rugby League World Cup: Australia defeats Scotland 84-0 as Josh ... (ABC News)

Josh Addo-Carr scored four tries in Australia's demolition of Scotland at World Cup — but it was his final score that had everyone talking.

"There have been some great Kangaroos sides in the past. It was good!" "It happened so quick. As the ball tumbled towards the sidelines, Burton scooped it between his legs with one hand back to the waiting winger, who then sprinted down the sidelines, put in a kick, and collected his own ball to score the final insult of the match. With the game well and truly done and dusted at half-time with the score 40-0, Addo-Carr combined with Matt Burton in the final minute of play to put on a magic show. Josh Addo-Carr scored four tries — and potentially the try of the tournament — as Australia smashed Scotland to the tune of 84-0.

Rugby League World Cup as it happened: Addo-Carr scores four ... (The Sydney Morning Herald)

Scotland were no match for a potent Kangaroos outfit at Coventry Building Society Arena.

Scotland were gallant but just no match for a team littered with NRL stars. It may have fallen short of Australia’s 110-4 win over Russia in 2000 but the Kangaroos will be mighty pleased with their efforts today in a 84-0 victory over Scotland. That’s two wins from as many matches for the Kangaroos who have earned their beers tonight.

Australia rip through Scotland in 84-0 Rugby League World Cup ... (The Guardian)

The Kangaroos ran in 15 tries in Coventry with Josh Addo-Carr scoring four and debutant Campbell Graham three.

That is the only potential concern for the Australian boss on a rainy night of green and gold World Cup dominance. Hampson was traveling with several NRL players in Spain and is a friend of Kangaroos prop Patrick Cadigan. This handed Australia a set on the Scots’ try-line, and almost a try after 70 seconds through a kick, but Alex Walker managed to ground the ball before Cleary could lay a hand on it. Considering the Kangaroos’ back-up halfback at this point is Cleary, it is a strength in depth that Meninga’s counterpart Nathan Graham could only dream of. Nathan Cleary finished with a personal total of 28 points, with a try and 12 goals to his name, while Josh Addo-Carr claimed four tries and Campbell Graham notched a hat-trick. On Friday night it was the Kangaroos who stormed through the town, fully dressed of course, and caught the eye as they slaughtered Scotland 84-0 in their second Rugby League World Cup match.

It was a complete performance from everyone." There have been some great Kangaroos sides in the past. The Kangaroos dominated the game in every possible way. World class." [Josh Addo-Carr](https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/josh-addo-carr) starred for the Kangaroos, running in four tries - including a stunning kick-chase with just minutes left on the clock. "That's what we wanted to do. "World class. World class," Robbie Hunter-Paul said in commentary. "We stuck to a plan, played the ball in their end of the field. "It allowed us to score a lot of points, and also off the back of our (defence), we got stuck into them in their own end and that set us up for the game," he said. Addo-Carr said the Kangaroos came out with a plan to start the match with "good energy". "The tenacity he shows to put the kick in and just chase it and compete and go 'I'm scoring this try' and that's why (he') the man-of-the-match.

Rugby League World Cup 2022: Australian Kangaroos hold back ... (7NEWS.com.au)

Still grieving heavily from Hampson's tragic death, the Aussies put Scotland to the sword with a record-shattering win.

Then the emergency doors locked behind him and he needed to find a way back in. “At some stage all his close friends, particularly over here, will be grieving. Guijarro said staff “didn’t know where (the ringing) was coming from” until the grim discovery was made. The first onto a patio before he took a second leap falling at least 10m. “We’re very much behind them all and in the back of our minds we will be playing for them tomorrow,” he said. “We were playing against the best players in the world; 75 per cent of our players are part-time players and it’s a massive ask to step up to this level,” Scotland’s Nathan Graham said. Campbell Graham, who scored a hattrick against a Bravehearts side he nearly played for at this World Cup, chimed in on the other flank with Angus Crichton and Cleary crossing to give the Kangaroos a 40-0 lead at the break. Scotland are a long way from the side that clinched a draw with New Zealand in the 2016 Four Nations and the Bravehearts needed to be perfect to have any chance of troubling the Kangaroos. In the final minute a Holmes error gave Scotland a gilt-edged chance to have a crack at the Australian line but they failed to even threaten. Cherry-Evans and Cleary are likely to line up in the halves together in a deadrubber against the Italians after Australia inflicted a record defeat on the Scots. He fell just short of Andrew Johns’ record of points for a debutant (30 v South Africa, 1995) as Scotland were torn to pieces from the first minute to the last in front of a rain-soaked crowd of 10,276. Cleary was one of six debutants named by Australia and he wasted little time making an impact at the Rugby League World Cup as the Kangaroos put Scotland to the sword.

84-0! Cleary tears Scots apart amid Addo-Carr's four-try masterclass in bloodbath.

Burton soon got in on the action and Isaah Yeo also got in on the action with second-half tries. Addo-Carr then crossed for his hat-trick and Graham followed suit with a treble of his own in the 73rd. Cleary then scored one of his own after darting out of dummy-half and dancing his way through to the defence to crash over under the posts. Addo-Carr crossed for the first try of the match in the sixth minute after collecting a beautiful cut-out ball from Cleary and diving over in the corner. Cleary also set up the second try with a nice short ball for Jack Wighton to crash over in the 10th minute. Addo-Carr scored four tries in the 84-0 victory and the winger saved his best for last with an incredible finish in the 79th minute.

With two big wins from two games, Australia will finish at the top of their pool and will wait to see if they meet Ireland or Lebanon in the quarter-finals. Campbell Graham - who had been planning to play for Scotland before his Kangaroos call-up - was emotional following his Test debut, with the match played in his mother's home town against his father's home country. The record for most tries in a World Cup is 12 by Val Holmes in 2017 and 'Foxx' has that mark in his sights.
