We struggle when we bat first and wanted to do that in the warmup game. We have played a lot against Pakistan very recently, but it is about getting used to these conditions and this is our only warmup game, if there’s anything the guys want to try this is the game to do it. We recently played against Australia and batted first in every game, we would like to change it up and have a chase.
There were four catches for Jos Buttler, two sloppy run outs involving Asif Ali and a variety of bowlers in the wickets, with Willey taking two in two balls.
Tim Wigmore noted in his preview that Livingstone's claims to a place in the XI are strengthened by his bowling, and he has picked up a wicket here with his tweakers. Asif, on strike, tries to turn the ball for a single but gets a bit of glove. Gets a bit of the shoulder of the bat and flies behind the keeper. While Brook thrived during England’s recent tour of Pakistan, showing his power and range of shots to score 238 runs at an average of 79.3 and strike rate of 163, he is the least established member of England’s batting line-up. Fair play to Wasim, who picks the slower ball next ball and scoops it away for four. He explains the schoolboy calling system to his partner "if it's behind you, it's my call" and stomps off. Buttler calmly tosses the ball to the bowler's end and poor Iftikhar Ahmad is run out by 20 feet. A short ball gets up and hits M Wasim in the chest, on the right pectoral. Manages a single off the third ball of the over. Few radar problems for Mark Wood, but he finds it in the end - and Muhammad Wasim will be wishing he hadn't. Bit of swing for the bowler, who is not at his full pace yet, but four dot balls to Hales and then a single. Babar Azam and Rizwan were rested today but it was kind of the same story for Pakistan: a decent start from Shaan Masood at the top of the order, making 39 off 22 but the middle order could not put their foot down and Pakistan made reasonable but not thrilling pace on their way to 160.
