Jamie Lee Curtis says goodbye to 'Halloween Ends' and hello to ... (USA TODAY)

Jamie Lee Curtis puts the finishing touches on Laurie Strode's story in 'Halloween Ends' as she also begins a new chapter as 'a player' in Hollywood.

To be in that conversation is “beautiful and couldn’t be more special,” she says. “I now have the opportunity to have a creative life that I've dreamt about my whole life and never had the foothold for it.” She wrote and will direct an eco-horror movie called “Mother Nature” that’s “been in my head since I was 19” and also started a production company within Jason Blum’s Blumhouse that allows her to buy books and take them to the screen. Someone sent her a faux Oscar ad with a picture of her character, IRS inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdra, “looking insane and it just says, ‘Consider this,’ ” Curtis recalls. Curtis is tossing aside any and all “Wouldn’t it be nice?” posturing, too. [Michael Myers](https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/movies/2021/10/13/jamie-lee-curtis-halloween-movie-franchise-ranked-worst-best/6097569001/) one last time, and on the first day of shooting her closing film in the horror franchise, Curtis couldn’t figure out why her face and jaw hurt. It's too personal and it's why it's so good, but it's also why it hurts so much.” As “Ends” begins, Curtis’ horror icon is in a relatively peaceful place when she meets Corey (Rohan Campbell) and sees a fellow pariah. Throughout it all, she’s been a key collaborator in fleshing out Laurie’s “soulfulness,” says director/co-writer David Gordon Green. “And yet the one thing I don't think I will do is open a book. “I guarantee you there will be one day when all of this dies down, all of this Laurie love (and) I will be sitting with my little dog, who will be very happy to have me home, and I will sob and sob and sob," she says, choking up. What's happening?’ I looked in the mirror and went, ‘Ohhh.’ Laurie was genuinely smiling, and all of a sudden I realized how long it had been since Laurie smiled,” Curtis recalls after a scene where her iconic survivor has a flirtatious run-in with an old friend (Will Patton). “I live and breathe my truth.

Box Office: 'Halloween Ends' Targets Big $50 Million-Plus Debut ... (Variety)

If those estimates hold, it'll be the first movie since “Thor: Love and Thunder” in July to open to at least $50 million. “Halloween Ends” is the rare day- ...

The film, which is dedicated to Mamie, ultimately belongs to her.” In any case, “Halloween Ends” cost an economical $20 million to produce, so it won’t take a ton of coin to turn a profit. If “Halloween Kills” is any indication, ticket sales for the grand finale could be front-loaded; “Halloween Kills” collapsed by 70% in its sophomore outing and tapped out with $92 million in North America and $131 million globally. “Halloween Ends,” which is playing in 3,800 North American theaters, has the added benefit of monopolizing the entire Imax and premium large format footprint. “Halloween Kills” opened to $49 million last October while landing simultaneously on the NBCUniversal-owned Peacock — a bloody-good result given the COVID-era limitations in 2021. If those estimates hold, it’ll be the first movie since “Thor: Love and Thunder” in July to open to at least $50 million.

Box office preview: 'Halloween Ends' hopes to finish horror franchise ... (Goldderby)

This is the finale of David Gordon Green's trilogy and apparently to the entire franchise that started with John Carpenter.

Releasing’s “Till” biopic, starring Danielle Deadwyler as the mother of the murdered Emmett Till (played by Jalyn Hall), as she tries to get justice. Even more worrying is that Universal has taken its sweet time showing “Halloween Ends” to most critics, waiting until Wednesday night with reviews embargoed until Thursday afternoon – most true fans will have already bought tickets to see the movie on Thursday night or Friday to avoid any spoilers. That slump from one movie to the next could either have been due to the pandemic or to the movie being so relatively available on streaming, both giving horror enthusiasts a good excuse not to see “Halloween Kills” in theaters. Or they could just hit “play” on Peacock on Thursday night and not even have to worry about parking, babysitters, etc. “Halloween” has had a long history of ups and downs at the box office leading up til 2018, when Green’s “requel” was generally well-received, It also did fantastic at the box office, opening with $76.2 million, which is greater than every single other entry had grossed IN TOTAL up until that point. Maybe it was no surprise when it opened under $50 million (more than the original 1978 movie made in total) and wound up with only $92 million, domestically, compared to the predecessor’s $159 domestic gross and $255.4 million worldwide.

Halloween Ends is genuinely upsetting. Just don't believe the title (The Sydney Morning Herald)

Michael Myers, the crazed killer in the Halloween films, is sometimes referred to as The Shape, which more or less says it all. He's menace in its purest form, ...

Halloween Ends is no more coherent than its predecessors, but at least adds some new elements to the formula. There appears to be no real centre to these films, just an invitation to relish the tonal lurches for their own sake, as if Green and co-writer Danny McBride were privately giggling all the way through – which is sufficiently unnerving in itself. He’s menace in its purest form, a silent, masked figure who lumbers out of the darkness on Halloween night to carve up young women along with anyone else within reach.

A Nightmare on Elm Street & Halloween Stars Unite at Halloween ... (MovieWeb)

Danielle Harris finally met Jamie Lee Curtis for the first time as the stars of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween united for an epic photo.

Perhaps he can go to battle with another major star from the Halloween series by having Danielle Harris return as an older Jamie Lloyd in a Halloween movie that only acknowledges parts 4 and 5, as Harris' character was recast and killed off in the sixth film. The pair did manage to meet Curtis that night, and as it turns out, they weren't the only classic horror stars in attendance, as A Nightmare on Elm Street stars [Heather Langenkamp](https://movieweb.com/person/heather-langenkamp/) and Amanda Wyss were also present. I LOVE the horror community and the forever friends I’ve been making along the way! [Scout Taylor-Compton](https://movieweb.com/person/scout-taylor-compton/), who played Laurie Strode alongside Harris' Annie Brackett in Rob Zombie's Halloween movies; the two also co-host the Talk Scary to Me podcast. I'm gonna corner her and tell her how much I appreciate her for setting the bar so high for all of us women in horror, because she really did start it for us, so we're very appreciative." While Harris played Laurie Strode's daughter in one of the Halloween timelines, she had never crossed paths with Curtis on a film set or elsewhere.

'Halloween Ends' – Bloody Disgusting's Boo Crew Podcast ... (Bloody Disgusting)

Jamie Lee Curtis battles Michael Myers one more time in Halloween Ends, which brings this particular trilogy to an end on Peacock and in theaters on.

With this, I believe the idea was present in David Goyer’s original treatment and was a way to motivate the back half of Voight’s journey, to keep it a little vague. “With this, we wanted to find the beauty and the horror together in a more overt fashion. Hopefully, you’re pulled into the corners of the frame, looking at and considering how that might come into play in the future. “I didn’t know what it would mean to go back to something that I would define as the ’80s, necessarily, but a lot of that was in the way Ben [Lovett] and I approached the score. I think for me, Hellraiser was about this line between the abhorrent and the gorgeous, the glamorous and the repulsive, and feeling that irony present in the Cenobites. Part of it is just delivering what we’re excited about, where Hellraiser is concerned on a larger palette, and wanting to find that in both the Cenobite designs and the design. I think I was just too young the first time I saw it to really pick all that up. Not just the old Chris Young themes, but also some of the new ones that Ben used that will often go for something melodic and reflective of a character’s emotional state and indicative of what we’re looking at or what theme that the beat is on necessarily.” It needed to be a love letter to an audience, to a fanbase,” Gordon Green tells The Boo Crew. It was creating a new character that conveniently got to weave itself into the love story, that got to explore the manifesting of evil as it relates to Haddonfield, and also open up a side of intuition and instinct in Laurie that we haven’t seen before.” But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.” Jamie says a beautiful goodbye to Laurie Strode and an exciting look at what’s to come, David talks about the emotional journey designed for you in this incredibly unique Halloween film, crafting an all new vision for Haddonfield and so much more!”

Halloween Ends – review (STACK | JB Hi-Fi)

Halloween Ends is not only the best film of the new trilogy, but might also be one of the best Halloween sequels in general.

The rest of the cast is good, with Andi Matichak and Rohan Campbell offering strong support. And once the second act takes hold, Halloween Ends becomes a relentless and kinetic slasher movie that plays out like the ones of old. Opening with a shocking sequence depicting the accidental death of a child under the watch of his babysitter, Corey (Rohan Campbell), Halloween Ends kicks off with a bang that steers the trilogy in a new and fresh direction. This is a fundamental shift, to which fans owe a debt of gratitude. Far be it for us to spoil things, but we can say that Corey’s notoriety, regardless of innocence, sparks a new wave of fear amongst a community still coming to terms with their grief. Halloween Ends is the end of the road for Jamie Lee Curtis as the world’s most beloved final girl, Laurie Strode.

Jamie Lee Curtis on Saying Goodbye to Laurie Strode in 'Halloween ... (Variety)

At the premiere of "Halloween Ends," Jamie Lee Curtis reflected on the legacy of Laurie Strode, after playing the character for 44 years.

Never give up. “Getting to be along this last ride for Jamie Lee and getting to watch her, and walk alongside her, as she takes her last walk in Laurie Strode’s shoes, and take the most elegant bow I think you could for a character… Now, of course, I have my children, and that is my life, and that’s crucial. “I feel like I haven’t given up, that I have continued to try, but not at the level of Laurie Strode.” “The universal understanding of Laurie Strode is that as this original ‘final girl’ she never gave up, always pushing through no matter what. The back-to-back events capped an emotional world tour for the scream queen as she says goodbye to Laurie Strode, a character she’s played for the last 44 years, since John Carpenter’s original “Halloween” in 1978.

Halloween Ends (FilmInk)

And friends, that's saying something. Because if Halloween Kills asked “would you enjoy a Halloween movie without Laurie Strode?”, then Halloween Ends asks “how ...

And Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) posited that Michael was the creation of a Druid curse. You’re probably going to watch it anyway, which is totally understandable, but maybe afterwards we could all just agree to ignore Halloween Kills and this and pretend the story ended on that surprisingly strong note back in 2018. The problem is, all three characters are forced to act in bizarre, senseless ways in service of a premise that barely achieves coherence and is eventually left behind like a guilty train fart. Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) was about a pagan cult using Halloween masks to turn children into piles of insects and snakes. Halloween Ends takes place four years after the events of Halloween and Halloween Kills. Director David Gordon Green’s insistence that it was a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s iconic 1978 original (effectively removing the many sequels that followed from continuity), certainly raised eyebrows, but it was hard to argue with the slick direction, effective tension building and stellar central performance from Jamie Lee Curtis who wanted to give her iconic Laurie Strode character a proper send off (one without an assist from Busta Rhymes like 2002’s regrettable Halloween: Resurrection).
