Barcelona struggle to beat Celta Viga at home (Playing for 90)

For the third consecutive game, Barcelona put in a poor performance. Fortunately for the Catalans, Marc-Andre ter Stegen saved their blushes.

If they want to avoid the embarrassment of failing to qualify out of the group stage, they need a win against Inter. But the display is certainly going to be a point of worry for both Xavi and the players. It was left dangerously in the area as Pedri raced for a tap-in.

The two Barcelona youngsters did well against Celta Vigo. Can they repeat in the upcoming Champions League fixture or El Clasico?

Pedri to the rescue for Barcelona! Winners, losers & ratings as injury ... (Goal.com)

Barcelona moved back to the top of the La Liga table with a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo at Camp Nou, thanks to a first half goal from Pedri.

Strand Larsen did get the ball in the back of the net for the visitors but Barcelona escaped when it was ruled out for an offside in the build-up. Barcelona were dominant in the first 45 minutes and were good value for their half-time lead but Celta came roaring back after the break and had chances to equalise. Despite the loss of some key men, Barca took an early lead when Gavi teed up Pedri to open the scoring in the 17th minute.

Pedri's poached finish seals Barcelona victory (beIN SPORTS AUSTRALIA)

Pedri was the hero for Barcelona as it saw off a LaLiga challenge from Celta Vigo to take an unpersuasive 1-0 win on Monday (AEDT).

A dominant start from Barcelona hinted at a blowout scoreline, and Pedri's poacher's finish following a deflection in the 17th minute certainly whet the appetite. A week on from a similar performance against Mallorca, questions may be lingering about Barca's prowess, even as they sit top of the table. Despite a bright, almost bombastic start from Xavi's side, the Blaugrana gradually faded once again in defence of an early lead, ultimately escaping with all three points intact.

The causes of Barcelona's slump ahead of a key week (MARCA.com)

"Three weeks ago we were flying and now we're not," Barcelona coach said Xavi after the game against Celta. The Catalans are going through a small slump ...

We have to go for the second goal and be more ambitious." The same thing happened against Mallorca and Inter. An average of almost three goals per game. The Blaugrana squad has been plagued by injuries. This week, Barcelona have to get back to their best. A similar statement to the one he made in Mallorca: "In the first half we were good, but in the second we dropped off and we can't allow that. In Mallorca he broke the deadlock with a goal, but against Inter and Celta he was not the decisive player he had been at the start of the season. MARCA looks at the key points to understand the current situation. And Xavi needs all the players to be at 100% in this crucial stretch of the season, especially taking into account the many injuries the team has suffered. But in the last three weeks, the number of players with injuries has been increasing and the defence has been the most affected. Despite struggling at the back in many parts of the games, and thanks also to the excellent form of Ter Stegen, the Catalans have only conceded one goal over the three games. The Catalans are going through a small slump after the international break precisely at the most crucial moment of the season, as this week they play Inter in the Champions League and then comes the first Clasico of the season with the league lead in the balance.
