Doing this is not a short-term strategy, but it could reap significant dividends, for Australian football and the A-League into the future. To compare, Australia has established this in the NBA, with Australia going through a similar golden generation. Plus, Australia still has a large amount of migrants and travellers going to Britain, which if the right club was found, would help attract an Australian supporter base to the club. It appears that the Scottish leagues have even more lax restrictions on foreign players than England does, so potentially even more Australians could play in a side together. Yes, the A-League can attract ageing superstars, but it is ludicrous to think that the A-League could attract players closer to their prime like the MLS or Chinese Super League do. Despite this, there is one thing that Australians have an even stronger pull for: watching Australian players succeed and play in or against the top players and teams. It is entirely plausible that if Australia invested in such a model that the team could make it to the Championship level. This can lead to big crowds and eyes watching on TV, but sadly it does not translate to A-League interest come the regular season. A rare response is for someone to say they support an A-League team. The A-League has tried to, by association, cash in on this by getting big European clubs to come to Australia and play pre-season friendlies. Unfortunately, at times it appears an easier task to identify what the A-League is doing well, compared to what are the areas for improvement. My view is best summed up in the old adage: if a goal is scored in a National Second Division game, but no one is watching, was the goal even scored?

Western United have had a tremendous start to their A-League existence, with a deep finals run in their first season followed by a premiership in their second.
A mere 133 days after Western United downed Melbourne City in the Grand Final, the A-League Men is finally back – so it's time…
But plenty needs to go right for the Phoenix to mount a finals challenge, not least the form of unknowns Oskar Zawada and Bozhidar Kraev. Perhaps coach Carl Veart believes there’s already enough quality in the squad to make a run to the finals, but with the likes of Zac Clough and Hiroshi Ibusuki not always overly convincing, the South Australians look a bit thin on quality. But they’ve lost plenty of quality, even if Danny Vukovic is a like-for-like replacement for Mark Birighitti in goal. In Jason Cummings and Garang Kuol – who is sticking around on loan until January – the Gosford side boast a couple of genuine match-winners. Carl Jenkinson, Reno Piscopo and Brandon O’Neill are more than handy pick-ups, but the Jets lack a bit of an intimidation factor going into the new campaign. But it’s temperamental striker Aleksandar Prijovic who could hold the key to Western United’s fortunes, who will play most of their home games at AAMI Park. But the Novocastrians could just as easily be prime candidates for a lower-ladder finish. Lawrence Thomas, new skipper Marcelo, Oliver Bozanic, Brandon Borrello and the explosive Romain Amalfitano are all upgrades on last season’s squad, and there’s plenty of room for optimism in Parramatta. Cross-town rivals Western Sydney pulled off a memorable heist by nicking Milos Ninkovic, but the Sky Blues retaliated by signing Jack Rodwell in return. He’ll be helped by Daniel Arzani, who is back in the A-League Men and hoping to press his claims for World Cup selection. Melbourne City have been the team to beat over the past few campaigns, but they were genuinely ambushed in last year’s Grand Final. What better way to prove our credentials than by posting predictions we can all dredge up again at the end of the season?

He went onto make 19 appearances for the club, adding another goal to his name. 'I like pressure because I'm used to having pressure,' he said. Berisha spent six years at RB Salzburg where he bagged 31 goals in 167 games, before enjoying spells at Lazio and Reims. But make no mistake, Nani can certainly offer plenty more than a wise voice in the dressing room. 'For me, I came here and I want to start all over, this is a new chapter and I want to show myself to my teammates first and then, of course, to the league.' 'From what I have seen, the fans in Melbourne are not only the best in the league but they rival the atmosphere in Europe and I'm looking forward to being a part of that on the field in a Victory shirt and playing for them this season,' Nani said.
Melbourne City started their season with a bang by beating champions Western United 2-1 in the first game of the A-League Men's 2022-23 campaign.
Every game is a big game, of course, but when you think about it, for them, when they think about [last] season and losing the grand final, I wanted to help the team win. United, meanwhile, became the first reigning champion since Melbourne Victory in 2018 to lose their opening game of the following season. Given the high standards that he set in his first season in the ALM, it's not hyperbole to declare that Lacroix played his worst-ever game since arriving in Australia on Friday night. 10 by Kisnorbo in his City debut, the 29-year-old attacker looked a constant threat every time he got on the ball across the first half on Friday evening, and was incredibly unlucky to be pinged by the VAR for a foul in the build-up to Maclaren's would-be 13th-minute opener. Aloisi on the defeat and potential championship hangover: "We believe that [we'll bounce back] because of the way that we performed in pre-season. Because they were talking about it, all the team and I said f---ing hell, this is a big game for us and I want to win it. Despite an injury to Florin Berenguer, a hamstring ailment he will have scans for on Saturday, fringe Socceroo Marco Tilio still found himself relegated to City's bench and was not introduced until the contest was well in hand in the 73rd minute. With Lacroix at fault for both the goals that his side conceded and perhaps not fortunate to have given away one or two more, coach John Aloisi will be hoping that the towering defender's bad night at the office represented a one-off and not the start of a sophomore slide. Looking at his resume, Berisha is the type of player that absolutely should be dominating the A-Leagues. Showing little signs of rust, City's press and consistent control of the territory and possession battle gave United's defence fits on their way to coughing up a 2-0 lead in an uncharacteristically cack handed fashion. But perhaps even more importantly for Kisnorbo heading into a new campaign, his side looked comfortable as they secured their victory and reinforced their status as one of the favourites for this year's championship. And while Friday's win certainly won't have soothed the pain of that defeat, it at least represents some form of retribution.

Then, in another attempt to clear the ball, Lacroix headed the ball into Imai and over the line. The Swiss centre-back and Tomoki Imai combined for a calamitous own goal in the 38th minute, while Jamie Maclaren pinched the ball off Lacroix for City’s second in the 59th. Andrew Nabbout headed a Leckie cross on target and Imai’s header off the line went straight up in the air.
