Video reveals horror as cops shoot man (NEWS.com.au)

Footage has captured the horrified reaction of onlookers after a man was shot dead by police at one of Australia's most popular beach towns.

The incident is under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner, and is subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission. Superintendent Graeme Paine said the incident was captured on CCTV and that police were speaking to several witnesses. The police union claims officers had no choice but to shoot the 24-year-old man, who allegedly ‘lunged’ at them with a knife in the Whitsundays at Queensland’s Airlie Beach at around 12:20am on Saturday.
