“SMS Protect focuses a bit on the bad actors and the players who are willing to use cheats and potentially are willing to cycle through many, many accounts. Disruptive players are unable to immediately affect the larger community, with things like voice chat and match chat unlocking later in FTUE. In phase one, players will need to unlock the game's modes and chat functions – this happens "rapidly," Blizzard writes in the blog post. Then, in phase two, players will unlock the original Overwatch heroes by playing "approximately 100 matches," according to Destructoid. However, Blizzard says, "most FTUE restrictions are lifted while in a group, so new players can team up with their friends at any time to play almost any game modes." Competitive is the exception, though. In it, Blizzard says a consistent piece of feedback it has received is that new players feel overwhelmed by Overwatch's hero pool and various modes.

Defense Matrix encompasses our infrastructure of systems designed to help protect the integrity of gameplay and promote positive behavior in Overwatch 2. [Overwatch 2](games/nintendo-switch/overwatch_2) will arrive as a free-to-play game on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms very soon — on October 4th. The short of it, however, is laid out in the following statement:
"The Defense Matrix Initiative" for Overwatch 2 is an infrastructure of systems to keep the game fair, and promote positive behaviour.
A phone number can only be used once when making a new account, and certain types of numbers, including pre-paid and VOIP, cannot be used for SMS Protect. The same phone number cannot be used on multiple accounts at the same time, and players can’t use the same phone number to create multiple accounts. Similarly, if a disruptive player has been suspended or banned, SMS Protect makes it more difficult for them to return to the game”
With Overwatch 2 going free-to-play, there is a greater possibility of cheaters and disruptive players, something Blizzard is hoping to combat.
The FTUE will assist newer players who might feel overwhelmed by the amount of heroes, game modes, and more that were immediately available in the original Overwatch by giving them a more gradual introduction to the game. A lot of these competitive changes are clear to see lower down in the blog post and they include the removal of the general chat feature, a new ping system, and alterations to the pre-match screen, which will no longer feature player levels and ranks. According to a blog post made on Blizzard's official website, the Defense Matrix has been created to make a safer Overwatch 2 community, nurture programs that ensure a "positive experience for all players," and maintain competitive integrity by eliminating cheaters and disruptive players.

New accounts in Overwatch 2 will instead have to win 50 Quick Play matches on top of going through the First-Time User Experience in order to unlock Competitive Play. We've been hearing a lot of details about Overwatch 2 in the run up to the game's launch next week. Blizzard has now sketched out a fuller picture of one of the core components of Overwatch 2: Competitive 2.0.
Sojourn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko are coming to 'Overwatch 2' to supply the game with a fresh new addition to the damage, tank, and support classes.
In addition to needing to grind through 55 levels to unlock new characters, some of the old Overwatch characters will only be made available after completing around 100 matches for first-time players. Kiriko uses her Kitsune spirit to deal out healing and protection buffs along with a set of throwing kunai to deal out damage in a pinch. Sojourn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko are each sure to bring interesting alternatives to already established roles in the each of the game's classes. Hailing from Junkertown in Australia, Junker Queen is joining the team to bring down the ax on the competition. From the soldiered-up Sojourn to Junker Queen's end-of-the-world swagger and Kiriko's Kitsune healing, these are the three new heroes coming to Overwatch 2. Newcomers and Overwatch veterans alike have a nice little cast of new characters with three additions to the roster.
