It would be fair to say, not even the most optimistic Cowboys fan would have predicted North Queensland to be one win away from a Grand Final. The teams emerge onto the field at Queensland Countrybank Stadium and the scene is picture-perfect as the venue hosts a preliminary final for the first time. Fireworks are going off and the roar welcoming the Cowboys onto the pitch is as loud as anything we've heard this season. The Eels winger makes no mistake and crosses for the first try of the game. The Eels waste no time in making their numerical superiority count as Reagan Campbell-Gillard crosses for his second try of the season. Parrammatta go nowhere with their set of six, gifting the Cowboys the perfect attacking platform and North Queensland make the most of their opportunity. North Queensland move the ball forward at speed and benefit from a six-again call, to march into Parramatta's half. A broken passage of play then leads to the Cowboys starting their final set of the game from inside their half. The Cowboys have had 55 percent of possession, but found themselves trailing twice to Parramatta, who have looked dangerous whenever they have managed to get their forwards involved. Mitchell Moses looks rejuvenated and pins the Cowboys back on their try-line. The Bunker rules out the try and it's still 24-20 to Parramatta. North Queensland repeatedly slam on the door, but the Eels refuse to buckle.

Eels book Grand Final spot with stunning comeback win (NRL.COM)

The Eels will have the chance to end their 36-year premiership drought next Sunday, after a 24-20 victory over the Cowboys in Friday night's Preliminary ...

The Eels get a chance to end their premiership drought in next Sunday's grand final against either the Panthers or Rabbitohs. The way they managed the second half was much better than ours, I don’t think they made an error and the way they scrambled and defended their line, that’s the difference between a win and a loss." Mitchell Moses made a massive sacrifice for his team-mates today, he didn’t get to see the birth of his daughter, that’s huge, it shows you what it means. I thought we stayed composed, started the second half strong, but in the end Parramatta played finals footy for [longer]. To be 12-all at half-time, after having Jase (Taumalolo) in the bin for 10 minutes, I thought that was a really good effort. A crucial try-saver which kept Parramatta right in the contest.

Hero no-one saw coming as pack delivers; Moses' blushes spared: Eels Player Ratings.

He sent Campbell-Gillard through a gap and later shot through a gap himself only to butcher a sure try with his poor pass going to the ground. Made 28 tackles but left a little in the tank in attack. Whether it was an offload or a tackle bust, Lane threatened basically every time he touched the ball and proved to be the difference. The other half of the Eels’ in-form second-rowers held up his end of the deal too — despite missing 15 minutes of action due to a H.I.A. Lane got the ball away to Maika Sivo for a crucial Eels try and came up with a one-on-one tackle on Jordan McLean late in the game. But he set up Campbell-Gillard and also dived on a Chad Townsend grubber to clean-up a potential try. He will need to keep his tackling technique in check though next week after being penalised for a dangerous throw late in the game. The chief playmaker had an off night, kicking the ball out on the full twice and hooking a penalty goal while the Eels trailed by two points in the final 20 minutes. Seemed to be still spooked by the high ball and knocked on a Chad Townsend bomb. He couldn’t stop Reuben Cotter close to the line but made up for it with an incredible try-saver on Jeremiah Nanai. Was solid in defence and went looking for the ball, finishing with 101 running metres off 15 runs. In fact Dylan Brown had one of his quieter games and Mitchell Moses will want to put that performance behind him.

NRL finals 2022, how it happened: Moses meets new daughter over ... (The Age)

Mitchell Moses laid his grandmother to rest on Monday, met his new baby daughter on Friday afternoon and qualified for a grand final tonight.

Immense efforts by Reed Mahoney - a game-high 58 tackles, and Peta Hiku, who topped the run metres with 184 out wide. Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Shaun Lane produced some of the best footy they’ve ever played in that second half to lift the Eels. No, that’s not a typo, Eels fans. yesterday That’s all from me, go again tomorrow for Panthers and Rabbitohs. And that’s about all she wrote from us.
