Nvidia's Flagship RTX 4090 card is $1599 and Available in October (Gizmodo)

Team Green also announced the RTX 4080 starts at $899, though we don't know a release date.

Still, Nvidia’s RTX 4080 is also here if $1,599 seems too costly, and Huang said the company will continue to support its RTX 3000 line as well. Taken together with the RTX 4090's hardware, Nvidia promises its new card will be 2x faster at non ray-tracing tasks and 4 time faster at ray-tracing ones. Huang demonstrated how it works with The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, a game from 2002, and while we don’t know much about what kind of power it will need in addition to an RTX 4000 series GPU, it’s going to be available for modders everywhere. With blanket promises that the card is 2-4 times faster than the RTX 3090 Ti, which is an upgraded version of the 3090, Huang showed 4K framerates above 100 fps on both Cyberpunk 2077 and Microsoft Flight Sim, both with ray-tracing on. Which is good, because the RTX 4090 looks like a significant improvement over the RTX 3090, and especially over any GTX 1000 or RTX 2000 series GPUs you might still be rocking. To support that dream, the company also announced DLSS 3.0 upgraded tech that supplies more frames with less work, plus SER, a new RTX graphics engine that promises to drastically increase ray tracing performance.

Nvidia RTX 4090 vs. RTX 3090 vs. RTX 3090 Ti | Digital Trends (Digital Trends)

The Nvidia RTX 4090 is almost upon us, but how will it fare against the current kingpins: the RTX 3090 Ti and RTX 3090? Let's find out.

It’s big, expensive, and power-hungry, but it is set to be the new flagship card from Nvidia for some time to come. Like the 3090 Ti and 3090 before it, the RTX 4090 will support both ray tracing and DLSS. [RTX 3090 and 3090 Ti](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/nvidia-rtx-3090-ti-vs-rtx-3090/) from our earlier testing, but that mostly showed a minor progression from one card to the other. That’s something that Nvidia teased when it first debuted the RTX 3000 series, but it wasn’t viable outside of a few handpicked games, with DLSS doing most of the heavy lifting. Nvidia didn’t go into great detail with first-party benchmarks at its GTC showcase, instead claiming that the Ada Lovelace GPU at the heart of its new card is capable of up to a two-times uplift in general rasterization performance and up to a four-times increase in ray tracing performance when DLSS is enabled. That’s a big drop from the 3090 Ti’s launch price, showing that Nvidia isn’t raising costs dramatically across the board, but it is lifting it from the original RTX 3090’s price, suggesting we may see a modest bump in card prices throughout this new generation of GPUs. The RTX 4090 is likely to offer a far more dramatic uplift in performance. The RTX 3090 Ti released in March 2022 with a debut price of $2,000. [Nvidia RTX 4090](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/nvidia-rtx-4090-news-specs-price-release-date/) is an upcoming flagship graphics card that looks set to dominate high-end gaming PCs and benchmark top-10 lists in the not-too-distant future. Clock speeds have taken a big leap too, which will help deliver the big performance gains Nvidia is claiming are possible, as will the next generation of Nvidia RT and tensor cores. That’s still a big TDP, but it’s certainly more manageable than some of the rumored totals that were doing the rounds in recent weeks. At the time of writing, you can buy it for around $1,100 at most retailers.

Here's why people are so upset about the RTX 4090 and 4080 (Digital Trends)

Nvidia has announced the most powerful new GPUs ever made: the RTX 4090 and 4080? But under the surface, there are some serious problems.

[RTX 4090](https://www.digitaltrends.com/news/nvidia-geforce-beyond-live-coverage-rtx-4090/) comes in at $1,599, the RTX 4080 16GB is $1,199, and the RTX 4080 12GB is $899. [announcing its decision to pull out of the GPU market](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/evga-done-making-gpus-nvidias-fault/) entirely, citing Nvidia’s poor practices as the reason why. That means the RTX 4080 16GB actually matches the RTX 3080 Ti in price. It’s a significant step down in terms of specs, feeling more like where the RTX 4070 should be in the lineup. You’d think all this would put Nvidia in a tough spot, but the company knows exactly what it’s doing. The If you compare the RTX 4090 to last-gen’s RTX 3090, you’re seeing a $100 uptick in price. The two RTX 4080 models are where things get hairy. RTX 4080 16GB The problem? These three new GPUs were the crown jewels of [Nvidia’s nearly two-hour keynote](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/nvidia-gtc-2022-everything-announced/). Then again, the RTX 3090 Ti had it beat just earlier this year, with its retail price of $1,999.

Nvidia has sprung the GPU pricing trap set by the pandemic years (PC Gamer)

'You maniacs. You priced them up. Ah, damn you, god damn you all to hell!' That's pretty much my reaction to the price of the first Nvidia RTX 40-series ...

[the RTX 30-series cards are going to stick around for a while](https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-new-rtx-family/) (opens in new tab). But then who's to say the RTX 4060 isn't going to come with a much higher price tag than the RTX 3060 it's replacing? [RTX 3080](https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-rtx-3080-review-founders-edition-benchmarks/) (opens in new tab) at just $699 when retailers and AIBs were selling for far more than that initial price. It can therefore still cater for a broad cross-section of the GPU-buying public, even if this two-caste system means slumming it with last-gen silicon at the lower end. But hey, if we get a $350 RTX 4060 card out of all this sometime next year, with practically RTX 3080-class gaming performance, I'll be a lot happier. I probably wouldn't feel so gutted about the pricing of the new Ada Lovelace cards if they weren't the first RTX 40-series card out the door. We can call it greed on the part of the capitalist businesses manufacturing the hardware that goes into our gaming PCs, but like everything else graphics cards are only worth what people are willing to pay. Those were all things out of our control and meant that if we did want a new card, we had to pay through the nose to get one. The only other option was to call a halt to progress and not buy a new GPU when we couldn't quite get the frame rate we wanted out of our current system. Then you have second- and third-tier cards coming out for $900 and up. A set of fresh Lovelace GPUs where the cheapest of the three new cards is a princely $900. And who's going to do that when there are tempting new graphics cards on offer?

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090: Release date, price, and specs (PC Gamer)

The wait is over. The rumour mill can stop spinning, however briefly, and we can pore over the details Nvidia has released for its new top card.

In the meantime, Nvidia has released some figures, just to show how its latest architecture compares with its previous best Ampere offering, the RTX 3090 Ti. In Microsoft Flight Simulator and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide you're looking at a respectable doubling of the frame rate. It's worth noting that both the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti weren't really aimed at gamers, but more at the semi-professional crowd. Top of the pile is the GeForce RTX 4090, which will be the first card to be released. It's the most expensive offering of those announced so far, but it also packs a mighty punch when it comes, if Nvidia's own benchmarks are to be believed. Why AMD doesn't need to beat the RTX 4090 to overtake Nvidia (Digital Trends)

AMD Radeon RX 6900 graphics card hovers over an AMD red and black background. We don't have concrete performance data on RX 7000 GPUs yet — AMD is set to reveal ...

[RX 6800 XT is around 5% behind](https://www.techspot.com/review/2427-geforce-rtx-3080-vs-radeon-6800-xt/) the RTX 3080, and most games don’t see much of a difference at all. [RX 6950 XT](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/amd-radeon-rx-6950-xt-review/) show that AMD is able to compete at the top levels of GPU performance while still undercutting Nvidia on price. And as the next generation of graphics cards starts to roll out, Nvidia doesn’t look like it’s on the winning end. Assuming AMD keeps the pricing the same, it would have to release a worse GPU than its previous generation to lose out to Nvidia. [announcement of the RTX 4090](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/nvidia-rtx-4090-rtx-4080-launch-geforce-beyond/): the RTX 3080 isn’t going anywhere. If the RTX 4090 and the two RTX 4080 models came in at last-gen prices, we’d have a much more competitive GPU market. If you’re in the market for a GPU below $1,000, the only 40-series option available is the 12GB RTX 4080, and even then, you’re at the high end of flagship pricing. The company has been clear that it has excess inventory of RTX 30-series graphics cards, and there’s not enough demand for them. As shown during the [GeForce Beyond presentation](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/nvidia-gtc-2022-everything-announced/) and reiterated to the press in a briefing, Nvidia sees the RTX 3080 as the GPU to buy for around $700, at least for the time being. [best graphics card](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/best-graphics-cards/), one it hasn’t had in the last several generations. [RTX 4090](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/nvidia-rtx-4090-news-specs-price-release-date/) is official, and it’s launching in a few short weeks; if you can stomach the $1,600 price tag, that is. That puts Nvidia in a precarious position considering [AMD’s RX 7000 GPUs](https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/amd-radeon-rx-7000-series-everything-you-need-to-know/) are right around the corner.
