Raju Srivastava breathed life and humour into the mundane (The Indian Express)

But with the internet boom, the mic of stand-up comedy was passed from TV to digital and from small towns to metros. Their humour decoded the fabric of India: It was observational, topical, funny and almost always, an eye opener. It was not the lifeline of Mumbai, thanks to Raju, it was life itself. At a time when comedy in films was itself used as a filler – with Johnny Lever often given the responsibility of turning middling gags to glory – – there was little Raju could do. From Mamata Banerjee and Lalu Prasad Yadav to Baba Ramdev, big names featured in his sets but, Raju never allowed comedy to become political commentary and retained the innocence of the art form. He joined the Samajwadi Party in 2014, but soon shifted allegiance to the Bharatiya Janta Party and was appointed as an ambassador of Swachch Bharat Abhiyan by PM Narendra Modi. There was a time when general entertainment channels used to run his old shows for hours to spike the TRP ratings. Those were the days when stand-up comedy had yet to find roots in India, but Raju could mimic film stars and soon emerged as a talented artist who could copy Amitabh Bachchan. He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and was on ventilator support for the last 41 days. In one of those soirees, a neighourhood uncle introduced him as ‘Raju’ and the name stuck.

If you are a beginner in a gym or just beginning a new exercise regime, it is always best to do it under the instruction of a specialised expert. Besides the above points, remember never to overstrain your body and always pay close attention to any issues that might arise. A deadlift can severely strain the vertebrae and lower back disc, mainly if you use the wrong form. While there is no doubt that drinking water is essential throughout the day, it is vital to drink water throughout your exercise regime. If you have suffered minor injuries or aches during your exercise regime, a good night’s sleep will help you recover faster.
