Queen funeral: Read Archbishop of Canterbury's FULL speech to ... (Daily Express)

The Archbishop of Canterbury has said Queen Elizabeth II's example was set 'through whom she followed' in a touching tribute to the late monarch.

While not leading the service today, the Archbishop of Canterbury has delivered a sermon as Church of England chief. "I know His Majesty shares the same faith and hope in Jesus Christ as his mother; the same sense of service and duty.” "All who follow the Queen’s example, and inspiration of trust and faith in God, can with her say: ‘We will meet again.’"

Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby's career before he became ... (WalesOnline)

The historic role is currently filled by Justin Welby, a former oil industry worker and Cambridge graduate.

He steadily worked his way up the order, becoming Dean of Liverpool in 2007 and then Bishop of Durham in 2011. During his time at Durham, he was introduced to the House of Lords to sit on the spiritual bench. He went on to work in the oil industry for 11 years before quitting and following his calling to the church. In modern times, this means a shortlist is presented to the ruling monarch and advice is given from the Prime Minister but the legal decision is that of the King or Queen. Initially he was not interested in religion and had not put much thought into theology. Justin Welby has been Archbishop since 2013 and succeeded Rowan Williams when he retired in 2012.

All who follow the Queen's example, and inspiration of trust and faith in God, can with her say: "We will meet again." As the Christmas carol says, "where meek souls will receive him, still the dear Christ enters in". I know His Majesty shares the same faith and hope in Jesus Christ as his mother; the same sense of service and duty. The pattern for many leaders is to be exalted in life and forgotten after death. People of loving service are rare in any walk of life. In 1953 the Queen began her Coronation with silent prayer, just there at the High Altar.
