Users can make up to five edits to a given message, and recipients will be able to see a record of edits made to the message. - The Health app adds Medications, allowing users to conveniently build and manage a medications list, create schedules and reminders, and track their medications, vitamins, or supplements. It allows users to quickly review and remove any access they’ve granted to others. - Dictation offers a new on-device experience that allows users to fluidly move between voice and touch. When users choose to share files for collaboration through Messages, everyone in a thread will be automatically added, and when someone makes an edit to the shared document, activity updates appear at the top of the thread. - Updates to Apple Maps enable further exploration of the world with improved driving and transit navigation, and multistop routing. Browsing in Safari is even safer with passkeys, a next-generation credential that can’t be phished or leaked, making it more secure and easy to use. With the biggest update to search in years, Mail features state-of-the-art techniques to deliver more relevant, accurate, and complete search results. With Focus filters, apps like Calendar, Mail, Messages, and Safari can display only the content that is relevant to a user’s Focus, helping them to find better balance. Users can also create unique designs with their favorite emoji and color combinations, and with multiple Lock Screens, users can switch between their favorites with just a swipe. Apple collections include iconic imagery from Apple; Pride and Unity wallpapers; a Weather wallpaper to see live weather conditions as they change throughout the day; and an Astronomy wallpaper for views of the Earth, moon, and solar system. New widgets on the Lock Screen make it easy to get helpful information at a glance like upcoming calendar events, battery levels, alarms, time zones, Activity ring progress, and more.

Of course, there is Apple Wi-Fi sharing, which is supposed to do this seamlessly, but it doesn’t work with Android devices and has been pretty hit-and-miss in my own experience. The difference is subtle but it adds a new level of DSLR-esque drama and storytelling to each shot. Simply put, to quote a British DIY brand Ronseal, it does exactly what it says on the tin. All of this is an extension of what iOS 16 is doing by cutting out subjects on lock screen photos. Of course, these cameras are already pretty outstanding, but with some small software tweaks, the blurring effect is getting an impressive improvement. However, every iPhone dating all the way back to the iPhone 8 will receive this update.

Nevertheless, iOS 16 does make hanging up phone calls a bit different, anyway, now that it gives you the ability to hang up using Siri. Plus, the Translate app has a camera view, which lets you choose text in front of you and translate it without leaving the app. [It’s a modest update for Notes in iOS 16](https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2022/07/the-best-new-apple-notes-features-in-ios-16/), but useful nonetheless. All the New iOS 16 Features You Can't Use Yet (Lifehacker)

After months of testing, iOS 16 is finally out in the wild today as a stable public release. It's filled with welcome new (or new to iPhone) features, ...

[its promised new features](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ios-16-will-bring-game-center-updates-text-messaging-improvements-and-more-to-apple-devices/1100-6504192/) didn’t make the launch of iOS 16: Game Center’s new Contacts integration won’t roll out right now, nor will its new activity dashboard and profile system, so you’ll have to wait to see what games your friends are playing and their achievements. Matter is a new standard for smart home devices that will work seamlessly across multiple ecosystems, so you won’t have to go looking only for HomeKit-certified devices. Think of them like a supercharged form of notifications, able to show you something like how far away your Uber ride is without you having to unlock your iPhone. Apple finally took the effort to solve the shared photo library problem by allowing up to six people to share some or all of their photos automatically with one another. This isn’t actually particularly weird for Apple, which has a history of rolling out new features over time. It’s filled with welcome new (or [new to iPhone](https://gizmodo.com/apple-iphone-14-android-dynamic-island-esim-proraw-1849519233)) features, like a [customizable Lock Screen](https://lifehacker.com/all-the-ways-you-can-customize-your-iphone-s-lock-scree-1849310427) with widgets and the ability to [edit and undo iMessages](https://lifehacker.com/you-can-finally-edit-and-undo-sent-messages-on-iphone-1849167883).
