It was difficult because the position when he dropped off wasn't occupied by the others. It's harder to do it with Valverde out wide." [Thibaut Courtois](https://www.espn.com.au/football/player/_/id/134283/thibaut-courtois) in the opening minute of the game, and the striker put the visitors ahead when he appeared unmarked at the back post to head home a free-kick from [Kang-In Lee](https://www.espn.com.au/football/player/_/id/274197/kang-in-lee). [Eden Hazard](https://www.espn.com.au/football/player/_/id/101390/eden-hazard) was handed a rare start -- his first since January -- as a False No.9 before being replaced in the 59th minute, but Ancelotti said the [Belgium](/football/team/_/id/459) international was not to blame for Madrid's problems in the first half. [Vedat Muriqi](https://www.espn.com.au/football/player/_/id/240209/vedat-muriqi)'s 35th-minute header, before [Fede Valverd](https://www.espn.com.au/football/player/_/id/235818/federico-valverde)e brought the two sides level with a thunderbolt from the edge of the area. 2 hours from kickoff: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News' live coverage of Real Madrid vs. Aguirre's men will lurk in that defensive shell but with a willingness to try and hit Madrid on the counter. They will, of course, have to do so without the injured Karim Benzema and lack a specialist striker in his absence. 39th min: The referee has to intervene as Raillo takes down Vinicius in the penalty area, and the Mallorca defender is shown a yellow card. It's a below standard showing from the Madrid full-back on the play, and Los Blancos are punished. Off a throw-in, Mallorca completely unlocks the Madrid defense and should have gone in front! in the penalty area who provides the finishing touch, and Madrid are finally able to go in front. There's a bit of extra-curricular activity between the Real Madrid man and Maffeo. Vinicius and Rodrygo carved the Mallorca defense to shreds in the second half, seeing Real Madrid come away with all three points. Antonio Rudiger has the ball in the back of the net for his debut Real Madrid goal, rifling in at the far post off a free-kick. Throughout the first half and early second half, Ceballos did his best to pull the strings for the Real Madrid attack, hurling himself at the Mallorca low block, hoping to provide a way through. Modric's introduction on the hour for Ceballos changed the game, as the 37-year-old Croatian calmed Madrid and spurred them to victory.

Carlo Ancelotti has named Eden Hazard in his Real Madrid starting line up for the first time since January for Sunday's clash with Real Mallorca.

Real Madrid completed 33 passes in the build-up to Hazard's goal against Celtic in the Champions League in midweek. THE BIGGER PICTURE: Hazard has struggled to make much of an impact at Real Madrid since signing from Chelsea, although his time at the club has been disrupted by injury. Ancelotti has therefore brought in Hazard for his first start of the season, and also handed Dani Ceballos a place in the starting XI.

Real Madrid gives update on Karim Benzema (Football Express)

Real Madrid had a brilliant last season. They won the La Liga and Uefa Champions League in some style as they defeated Liverpool in May.

It is a frustrating sight for the club as there is no one quite brilliant to replace Benzema as the No. It will be a blockbuster season to witness. That signing comes a lot in handy now that Casemiro has left the Spanish capital for Manchester. But Ancelotti has given a hint as to when Benzema can be back for Los Blancos. The likes of Barcelona, Bayern, Manchester City, and PSG are all stacked up and will do their best to knock out Real Madrid from UCL. There were embarrassing losses against the likes of Barcelona but that never resulted in panic at the club.

They may be the reigning and record European champions, but history tells us that Real Madrid often aren’t at their best in the group stage of the competition. Another cause for optimism in the Leipzig camp is the fact that they are unbeaten against Spanish opposition. [New Leipzig coach Marco Rose](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/marco-rose-leipzig-first-games-former-clubs-real-madrid-borussia-dortmund-monchengladbach-21192) may not have the most intimidating-sounding surname, but like the flower itself you’d better watch out. And what better time to impress your coach than away at the reigning European champions? And then there is the matter of the ‘new-coach bounce’, to give the term its official name. Sure [Timo Werner](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/player/timo-werner) is still finding his turbo-charged feet after re-joining the club that saw him become a household name in the European game. In short, he will not be fazed by the Spaniards’ name or reputation. The man who weighed in with an astounding 20 goals and 13 assists in 34 top-flight appearances last season played a fundamental role in Leipzig finishing in the top four and thus securing a Champions League group stage berth this term. He has previous when it comes to facing Real and Carlo Ancelotti, too. The France international was also on target four times and assisted three goals during Leipzig's successful DFB Cup campaign last term. The Germany international was on target against Los Merengues in the tournament's semi-final second leg back in May 2021. Werner is also a man for the big occasion, as was proved in the forward's feats of winning UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup glory with his previous side.
