The Cowboys are now just one win away from a grand final and will enjoy a week off before hosting a preliminary final in Townsville. the thing that probably disappoints us the most is we scored 30 points and the way we defended throughout the season we would probably get that done nine times out of 10 so we have a simple focus in front of us, we’re back to work tomorrow and get prepared for next week." Val had a carry in that same set in our own half and he got up and said to the boys as he got up and played the ball and they were running off he said 'I'm taking a shot' and that's what happened and he was dialled in and he delivered." We earned a second crack so the disappointment is here right now but we’re on again next week so we just have to dust it off… Nicho Hynes entered the finals series with 17 try assists for the season and he needed just 25 minutes to notch No.18 when he put Siosifa Talakai into a gaping hole to score the Sharks' second of the night. What’s done is done now, we just have to wash it and move on.

Valentine Holmes the hero as Cowboys hunt down Sharks to win ... (The Guardian)

North Queensland beat Cronulla 31-30 in extra-time to send the Cowboys through to the preliminary final.

The thing that probably disappoints us the most is we scored 30 points and the way we defended throughout the season we would probably get that done nine times out of 10. Cowboys winger Murray Taulagi scored the first try after the break but Holmes was unable to add the extras from the touchline. But then the game took a twist. The win guarantees the Cowboys will host a preliminary final in Townsville for the first time. Hynes was faultless from the tee converting tries from Toby Rudolf, Siosifa Talakai and Will Kennedy. Chad Townsend was key to the Cowboys’ fortunes as he returned to play his former club for the first time since leaving for Townsville last year.

Took his game to a new level in the second half and stayed on the park for 84 minutes in the middle. The 22-year-old managed to reel in a Chad Townsend kick, beating Sharks flyer Will Kennedy to the ball and burrow his way to the line and record North Queensland’s first points. Came on in the 79th minute and did his job. Recorded 76 running metres and a tackle break. Didn’t make any major mistakes and put the Cowboys on the front foot. Dangerous as always and did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first 40 minutes. Stood up when his team needed it and steered the ship for 92 minutes to show his experience. Lost the ball on the Sharks line in extra time in strong attacking position. Carried the ball well out of the back and didn’t make any mistakes. A workhorse as always and consistently threatened out of dummy-half. Recorded 185 running metres and 10 tackle breaks to go with a try assist and line break. From behind the 40-metre line, the former Sharks slotted a two-point field goal to ice the game.

It was Cronulla, though, who courtesy of a two tries from Will Kennedy and other scores from Toby Rudolf, Siosifa Talakai and Cameron McInnes had put themselves in a position to win late in the game. "Val had a carry in our own half in that same set and he said to the boys as he got up and played the ball, 'I'm taking a shot'," said Cowboys coach Todd Payten. The winner of the semi-final between Parramatta and Canberra is the only hurdle remaining between them and a place in the grand final.

And then Asofa-Solomona's effort put the home side ahead but it was short-lived with the Raiders finishing with a flourish to send the Storm packing. Coates planted the ball across the line for his third try four minutes into the second half after a break by Marion Seve for the Storm to only trail by two points. Two tries to Coates put his side ahead 8-4 but the Raiders crossed twice in the final nine minutes of the half to take an eight-point lead into the break. The Raiders repelled a Storm fight-back in the second half to oust the perennial finals heavyweights and march on to a semi-final showdown against Parramatta in Sydney next weekend. His kick set up Tom Gilbert for the opening try of the night with Peta Hiku and Tom Dearden also scoring to help the Cowboys get away to a fast start. The winner of the semifinal between Parramatta and Canberra is the only hurdle remaining between them and a place in the grand final.

The North Queensland star has hit back after Johnathan Thurston joined in on the criticism for a crucial play.

But Holmes was insistent after the match that contact had been made from Ramien, and the penalty was deserved to overturn the try Tracey had scored. “It’s pretty black and white the rules, all year it’s been consistent and that’s what we want,” Holmes said. “But I knew that he should have just stopped or gone through the line of my inside shoulder, because he needs to run on my inside.” And then after the Cowboys eventually drew level on fulltime, Holmes nailed a 43-minute field goal in the 93rd minute to win the game and book a home preliminary final. The Queensland State of Origin flyer was first ruled to have been obstructed by Jesse Ramien in the lead-up to a potential Sharks try, which would have put the hosts ahead 28-22 with a kick to come and 18 minutes to play. Holmes was at the centre of the three biggest moments in the Cowboys’ 32-30 win on Saturday, as they fought back from a late deficit to claim a golden-point victory.

'Cosmetic cowboys' registered for private health rebates (The Sydney Morning Herald)

Health Minister Mark Butler has ordered a review of private hospital licensing after health funds raised concerns about “cowboys” on the register.

Health fund members’ money should be funding quality health care in quality facilities.” David said the current system was operating “as a hospital subsidy scheme, rather than ensuring patient access to quality health care” and questioned why Cosmos was a Commonwealth-declared private hospital. Opposition health spokeswoman Anne Ruston said federal and state health ministers must “ensure that private hospitals are held to the same health, safety and clinical standards as public hospitals”. In her letter, David said it was “troubling” that four Cosmos facilities had been approved for second-tier default benefits because this meant health funds were legally required to pay out claims for procedures eligible for a Medicare rebate, and it was also concerning that they had been “declared private hospitals” in the first place.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers preview vs. Dallas Cowboys (The Pewter Plank)

Here is a look ahead at the storylines surrounding the Buccaneers and the Cowboys ahead of their Week One game later tonight.

Last year, Tampa rushed for the 7th most yards in the league, and if we can make Dallas respect the threat of the run, that should slow down their lethal pass rush, and take some of the pressure off of our offensive line to hold their blocks for as long. One big difference for the Cowboys this year is the loss of Amari Cooper, who was their team’s leading receiver in last year’s game against us and was second on their team for the year. Another key piece to success on Sunday night, will be to come at the Cowboys with a balanced attack. Diggs was able to pick off Brady last year, so it will be up to Tom and his receivers to minimize Diggs’ risk this year and minimize his reward. Dak Prescott threw for over 400 yards in last year’s version of this game, and controlling their passing game will have to be a focal point for Tampa Bay this year. Carlton Davis, Jamel Dean, and Sean Murphy-Bunting will all be very busy with this Dallas offense that likes to pass the ball a lot!
