Subjects of FBI's 9/11 Saudi probe linked to calls to al Qaeda (Florida Bulldog)

By Robbyn Swan, FloridaBulldog.org - An FBI analysis of phone records links subjects of its probe to a key communications hub used by al Qaeda.

In the end, the only relevant information Abdullah provided was the suggestion that someone bearing a name similar to Aidarus’s had been the hijackers “closest friend” in San Diego. He suggested that the calls must have been made by his Saudi roommate, calling his “folks.” He did not have a reply, agents noted, when questioned as to why the “folks” of a Saudi national would be residing in Yemen. They had noted the “inconsistencies” and that certain answers Aidarus had given contradicted those of other witnesses they had interviewed. He said he thought the pair were just “students,” that he could not have imagined they would have been involved in terrorist activity because they were “not smart.” And that he vomited when he saw their pictures on television after the attacks. And the March calls to the al Qaeda hub in Yemen? because they did not read or write English and needed assistance in comprehending the locality.” Aidarus said Bayoumi told him he “was responsible for” Hazmi and Mihdhar. In addition to the series of calls involving Aidarus, Saudi diplomat Thumairy also received a call from Malaysia in those final days of December. When interviewed in 2001, another 2006 report notes, Aidarus had admitted having been friends with al-Hazmi and al-Mihdhar, but his “knowledge of the two 9/11 hijackers was not further exploited” by his interviewers. The discovery, for example, that both Osama bin Laden and one of the bombers in the 1998 attacks at U.S. 9/11 survivor Sharon Premoli, who was severely injured in the collapse of the WTC’s North Tower, believes that with the story that emerges here, “History is about to be rewritten.” And, the material relating to Thumairy, Bayoumi and the “set up calls,” contains just the kind of “additional information” and “contradicting statements” the FBI’s closing memo suggested it had resolved. Operation Encore was set up in 2007 in part to examine whether three Saudi men – Thumairy, Bayoumi and Musaed al Jarrah, a mid-level official at the Saudi Embassy in Washington – had provided hijackers Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi with assistance when they arrived in California in January 2000.

This weekend, Americans across the country and around the world will pause to remember the thousands of victims that perished because of the evil terror ...

With flights grounded, travel back to Norfolk was at first impossible, but I made it work after only a few days and a lot of help from family, friends, and even total strangers. I, with my entire family, recognize and honor the great Americans who have fought since 9/11 for a better America and a better Afghanistan. As we remember the lives lost, let us also celebrate the spirit of service lived out by our troops and veterans. It will forever be a day to mourn the loss of innocent life and remind us of the evil we must remain committed to defeat. September 11, 2001 made me, at 11 years old, keenly aware for the first time of what supposedly separated us from ‘normal Americans.’ That tragic day also inspired an entire generation of heroes who volunteered to sacrifice their own time, and potentially their lives, to seek out the terrorists who attacked our homeland.

9/11 attacks anniversary: What happened on September 11, 2001? (Firstpost)

The 9/11 attacks were carried out by nineteen terrorists from al-Qaeda, who hijacked four commercial aeroplanes.

The names of the people who died in the attacks in New York have been etched in bronze around the edges of the pool. A memorial was built on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the site where the Twin Towers once stood. The 9/11 attacks were carried out by nineteen terrorists from al-Qaeda, who hijacked four commercial aeroplanes. The third hijacked plane was made to crash into the Pentagon in Virginia state of the US where 184 people lost their lives. This caused the steel supporting the building structure to weaken and resulted in the collapse of the towers. 9/11 was a series of coordinated terrorist attacks that took place in the United States on September 11, 2001.

The events of 9/11 and their aftermath, thus, continue to haunt the world to this day. The European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC) established a reporting system on potential anti-Islamic reactions in the 15 EU Member States in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. However, a far-right anti-Muslim movement that was motivated by prejudice and the heightened nativist discourse that followed the attacks also emerged from the ashes of 9/11. A Lebanese Christian who became a citizen of the United States named Brigitte Gabriel founded ACT for America in 2006; it now has chapters all over the nation. The country is back to square one, with the same government and policies, while the international community and the USA are also back to debating the same human rights abuses by the Taliban that were supposed to be eliminated while the USA was in Afghanistan, making it appear that the net outcome of the Afghanistan war is zero. The conflict in Afghanistan had effectively dispersed the al-Qaeda network, making it much tougher to combat. In addition, since 2001, 243,000 individuals have died in the warzone between Afghanistan and Pakistan, of which more than 70,000 were civilians. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) used Article 5 for the first time in its history, empowering its members to act jointly in self-defense, and on October 7 the military forces of the United States and its allies attacked Afghanistan. As of 2021, the conflict had claimed the lives of 2,448 American service members, 3,846 American contractors, 66,000 members of the Afghan national military and police, 1,144 members of NATO, 444 relief workers, and 72 journalists. Among the overall fatalities in New York City were more than 400 police officers and firefighters who died while responding to the incident and inside the buildings. For a candlelight vigil, thousands gathered in the Iranian capital of Tehran. After being informed of the situation through cell phone and ordering a global ground halt minutes later, the passengers of United Airlines flight 93 from Newark, New Jersey, sought to fight off their attackers and the plane crashed within an hour near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania.

As often mentioned, Governments have to be lucky all the time and terrorists have to be lucky only once. Separatism still seems to be the cause célèbre of many terrorist groups, as it was in the case of the LTTE. It is a site that pays homage not only to the memories of 3,000 people, but also to the hopes of people the world over for . It is testimony to the determination of New Yorkers to stand up to terror. Groups such as al-Qaeda and ISIS have distorted religious edicts to wage a ‘war’ against the West and Western interests. The events of 9/11 propelled the world to cooperate to fighting terrorism within and beyond their borders. In 2021, 25 countries recorded reductions in terrorism deaths, while 21 countries recorded increases and 117 countries recorded no change in the number of deaths. The biggest threat to world peace that has emerged in recent times is the terror network known as Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). US authorities are contemplating slapping terrorism charges on this suspect, since it would have been a major act of terrorism on the eve of the 9/11 anniversary. The immediate reaction of the US after 9/11 was to declare a ‘War on Terror’. Although there have been plenty of hijackings before this (a Sri Lankan hijacked an Alitalia plane among other incidents), 9/11 was the catalyst that prompted swift action to counter the threats posed by terror groups. Moreover, Sri Lankans had witnessed a terror attack on their main airport just a couple of months previously (I was at the airport that morning to catch a flight to Frankfurt).

A father-daughter moment, 10 days after 9/11 - Iowa Capital Dispatch (Iowa Capital Dispatch)

A father visits New York City 10 days after the 9/11 attack and visits his daughter who was part of the volunteer response.

And it is a way of off-putting the sadness, fear, and anger … In the distance, in the mist, I can see the Statue of Liberty. In the pouring rain, I start the volunteer unloading brigade that snakes out of the shuttle boat into the hold of the Spirit of New York, offloading food for the volunteers. Soon the new volunteers have loaded a shuttle boat with several tons of food stuffs, forming a bucket brigade to hand the food from the deck of the New Jersey onto the smaller boat; then some 30 volunteers, including Liz and me, don ponchos and climb into the open boat for a shuttle to the end of Manhattan. The smoke I saw on TV is real smoke now. I learned that I had arrived at the first moments of a handoff of this project by Liz’s company which has been competently sustaining the feeding effort out of its resources over to the Red Cross. She steps out for a quick hug and goes back to the meeting. Liz is in a meeting with Red Cross volunteers and reps from the NYPD and FDNY when I get there. As my Amtrak train approached New York, I could see out the coach window through the mist and the rain that, in fact, the World Trade Center was gone! A boat is the only way to get there. The tribute at the site of the World Trade Center towers has been an annual event in New York since March 11, 2002.Throughout the country services are being held to remember the 2,977 people who were killed in New York, the Pentagon and rural Pennsylvania in the terrorist attacks on Sept. After our visit, I sent an email to others in our family and some of our friends.

What Happened On 9/11 And How Has It Changed The World Since ... (India.com)

The attacks on the Twin Towers of World Trade Centre on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 brought about a new world order in the decades that followed.

A war of necessity — in the eyes of most of the world — in Afghanistan was followed two years later by a war of choice as the U.S. In the U.S., it gave rise to the angry, aggrieved, self-proclaimed patriot, and heightened surveillance and suspicion in the name of common defense. The ‘patriotism’ in America grew to the extent that ‘patriot under threat’ became a political identity in the United States. All it had to do was win supporters for their cause and then carry out attacks in the name of the organisation, thereby creating terrorist organisations with a global reach. The September 11 plot demonstrated that al-Qaeda was an organization of global reach. This was only a decade after the collapse of the Soviet Union left America with both the moral authority and the financial and military muscle to be unquestionably the lone superpower. However, it laid out a tough choice for the U.S, to start anew. They hijacked four commercial aeroplanes and after taking control of the aircrafts, the terrorists crashed two of them into the upper floors of the Twin Towers (the North and South towers) of the World Trade Center complex. - However, in the fourth hijacked plane, Flight 93, passengers fought back with the terrorists after learning about the three plane crashes. New Delhi: The following two decades after the attacks on United States’ Twin Towers on 11 September 2001 saw the drastic impact of the event, witnessing a profound change in the world. - The first two crashes occurred in quick succession. On the morning of September 11, 2001, four coordinated attacks were carried out by a total of nineteen terrorists from four different countries, all of them belonging to the al-Qaeda terror group.

No sharp objects were allowed in the cabin, including such items as nail files and pen knives. The 2008 onset of the Great Recession in the United States dealt another blow to commercial aviation. A slew of new security regulations were implemented in the following years. Shake-ups in the major players in commercial aviation, in addition to new, intensified security procedures, completely changed the landscape of the industry. Airlines identified new, sustainable revenue streams in the wake of the upheaval. According to the International Air Transport Association, United States passenger airlines experienced a net loss of $8.0 billion in 2001, and revenues did not exceed 2000 figures until 2004. The 2008 merger between Delta and Northwest Airlines was the first significant act of consolidation during this period. Another crashed into the Pentagon, and the fourth aircraft crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The scope of our nation's failure to care for its most vulnerable people during the pandemic has been orders of magnitude worse than on 9/11.

Once containment is lost, and the potential for mass fatalities across boundaries becomes clear, it is no longer appropriate for the states to take the lead; in its transformation from an epidemic to a pandemic, it also has been transformed from a public health emergency to a crisis requiring that we provide, as the Constitution’s preamble puts it, a “common defense.” His book “ [Way Too Fast: An American Reckoning](https://www.amazon.com/Way-Too-Fast-Reckoning-DeGennaro/dp/B09W747ZPY#:~:text=Way%20Too%20Fast%2C%20An%20American,of%20our%20popular%20music%20literature.),” was published in 2022. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum hosted its annual ceremony, with family members of the victims reading names of those who died.

The deadly morning spurred a global “war on terror" highlighted by two decades of combat in Afghanistan and the 2011 killing of Osama bin Laden, founder of the Islamist militant group. The attacks were the work of 19 al-Qaeda conspirators who commandeered two passengers jets departing from Boston, one from Newark, N.J., and one from Washington-Dulles. "We will always remember, we will always stand guard over this democracy. "But what we will not change, and never will, is the character of this nation that the terrorist thought they could wound." The plane went down after passengers and crew members tried to storm the cockpit. Other communities around the country were holding candlelight vigils, interfaith services and other commemorations.

And it falls to us to keep it safe on behalf of all those we lost 21 years ago, on behalf of all those who have given their whole souls to the cause of this nation every day since. And may God honor the members of the military we lost and all those we lost here on 9/11. And that is what we owe future generations of Americans to come. And to all our service members and their families, our veterans, our Gold Star families, all the survivors and caregivers and loved ones who have sacrificed so much for our nation: We owe you. They will feel the connection that will come to pass on September 11, 2001, and how our country was forever changed. Because on this day, it is not about the past, it’s about the future. To me, that’s the greatest lesson of September 11. But what we did change — what we will not change, what we cannot change, never will, is the character of this nation that the terrorists thought they could wound. We’ll continue to monitor and disrupt those terrorist activities wherever we find them, wherever they exist. Think of all of your loved ones, particularly those on that flight — ordinary citizens who said, “We will not let this stand,” who risked and lost their lives so even more people would not die. They raced into the breach between the fourth and fifth corridors. Twenty-one years ago — twenty-one years, and still we kept our promise: Never Forget.

Many thought they found shelter at a friend’s house or were in a hospital being attended to. For a brief moment in time, everyone banded together to get through this horrendous event.
